OMG. I've never hated a character so much and wanted to punch someone in the face as I did during episode 11.…
Which one? I assume you mean Aey, but for me it's a tie between Tum's sister and Tiffy. Aey is mentally unstable and needs to spend some time in a psychiatric ward.
Here's a different take. I'm almost hoping this doesn't have a happy ending, and here's why:
Lovely Writer (along with Call It What You Want) is brave to expose some of the real life, toxic aspects to fanservice and behind the scenes issues with BL in general.
All for the sake of fanservice (meaning, money making for the company), BL actors are discouraged from having relationships of their own, whether they be gay, straight, or otherwise. Actors in other genres are not subjected to this kind of emotional bullying.
There are so many BL actors who have decided they want out, and it's no wonder. Mean and Plan have both said they are leaving BL. I believe Krist and Perth have done the same; so have others whose names are escaping me at the moment. The craziness happens even within different BL series: when Saint teamed up with Zee for Why R U, delusional fujoshis sent death threats to Zee, for "breaking up" Saint/Perth. This is just one example of many.
Perhaps the best message -- the one that would pack the biggest punch -- would be an unhappy ending, to show that all of this toxicity has real life consequences for innocent actors, who are to blame for nothing other than trying to do a good job, while maintaining their own private lives... just like everyone else.
To be honest I am very disappointed at Gene for ALWAYS putting others first instead of his own well-being. But…
I've known plenty of BOTTOMS who are feisty and absolutely dominant when it comes to standing up for themselves. (And they practically order the top to give them what they want... the top is merely a slave for their pleasure, lol!)
Sib doesn't know that Gene thinks he is drugged... if you watch the whole scene at the end they show that he was…
Not all couples pursue each other in the same way, some actually do enjoy an element of "cat and mouse" playful foreplay ("Don't come near me! But, actually... I want you to"). That's what I get from Gene/Nubsib, it's a different kind of chemistry... something you intuit as a couple.
I had no doubt in my mind that if Gene really meant "No means no" and was genuinely upset, Nubsib would have backed off immediately.
???? but sib didn't know that aey told gene that nubsib was drugged... how exactly did sib manipulate gene into…
Interesting... I didn't get that at all.
What I DID get was Nubsib very clearly saying to Gene "If you're not ready, I can wait." Gene was the one who said "Cut the crap and just do it." 100% consensual on Gene's part.
And what happens after 4 months? Sib becomes an even bigger star, gets cast as another BL lead, and then another,…
Thanks for your excellent points.
For me, the real issue is not Nubsib/Gene, per se. Okay, Nubsib just happens to come from a wealthy family, but most actors don't have that luxury. They don't work, they don't eat. And actors have to strike while the iron is hot, as there is no guarantee that they will always have work.
Just waiting out the four months doesn't confront the bigger issue. When does the insanity end?
Combine that with being forced to publicly lie about your personal life (on more than one level). As you mentioned, that is so wrong.
Ah yes. The dreaded 11th episode. 4 months. They seriously couldn't survive 4 months!??? With computers and prepaid…
"4 months" doesn't solve the problem. So what happens when Sib gets cast in "Bad Engineer 2?" Or the BL after that one? And another, and another...? The series is telling us that BL stars never, EVER get to have a husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend, because it interferes with fanservice. That's the problem.
Really wish the actors would form a union and forbid fan service. Thailand and Taiwan are the last region gay…
Agreed. But... kudos to Thailand for producing both Lovely Writer and Call It What You Want. It can only help to combat toxic producers and fanservice.
Bruce and Kenji were gold in this episode, but the writing let Up & Kao down in a major way - I couldn't feel…
And what happens after 4 months? Sib becomes an even bigger star, gets cast as another BL lead, and then another, and another... what the company is saying is that Nubsib can NEVER have a boyfriend. Isn't that correct?
For me this was the best episode yet, because we're finally getting to the heart and soul of what -- I think -- this series is supposed to be about: the destructive aspects of BL fanservice.
I love BL, but I've always been really creeped out by fanservice. Sure, it's a profit maker for the companies, but it's weird as hell and really needs to fall apart at some point. It's TOXIC.
Watching Aey's livestream to his fans, I couldn't help but think about Art's teary livestream when he complained about Mew (and fans went berserk), or when Saint (after LBC with Perth), teamed up with Zee on Why R U, and Zee got death threats. And there's far more insanity than just those two incidents.
Actors outside of BL don't hide their marriages and relationships. We could say "Nubsib/Gene just have to hold out 4 months, what's the big deal?" The big deal is this: what happens when Nubsib is cast in the next BL series? And the one after that? What this company is saying is that Nubsib is NEVER allowed to have a private relationship or marriage, at least not while he is a BL star.

No wonder all these popular BL actors want out.
