DK wrote another beautiful piece about his character; heβs really good at these: https://weibo.com/2874676653/5280424484146116
I've added a thread in the Discussions section to preserve these for future visitors. Qi Min is such a fascinating villain and these really help explain how he came to be this way!
What made it bad for you , for me it was that characters such as emperor and qimin got too much screen time ,…
Maybe I overthink it, but I tend to look at supporting couples as a reflection/refraction of the main couple. I think we can consider XZ as being quite obsessed with FCY, but he gives her her freedom and supports her aims. QM, on the other hand, takes his obsession to a very dark place, seeking to constrain and control YQQ. We see the difference that creates.
Of course, QM also has other roles in the drama. It doesn't seem disputed that he is the rightful heir to the throne, but all of our interactions with him build the picture of how terrible he would be as emperor.
An interesting little snippet from Deng Kai's Weibo that, I think, helps explain Qi Min's dark character:
"He survived against his will, and no one around him treated him kindly because he was Qi Min. Initially, he was destitute and lived in constant vigilance, fear, and hatred. This long-term repression warped his mind, pushing him to the brink of mental collapse. He could only vent his inner pain through extreme methods. Coupled with the lingering illnesses left by the fire years ago, he was already physically and mentally exhausted. "
I just want to leave a reminder about dramas and its lack of consistency.ALOT of time, the production only have…
I wonder if the director's background in shortform drama has made the difference here. He may be more experienced in getting to the point quickly, getting the 'money shots' set up right, and being clear and concise about what he wants from both actors and crew.
It's so good that I'm worried how I'll feel about the next drama I watch!
Particular highlights for me are the brilliantly shot scenes (camera angles, lighting, pacing, mood...) and the rounded characters - even the supporting cast feel like real people with emotions, back stories, and a life outside of what we see.
chat, this is my first time watching a cdrama while it's airing, what is this express everyone keeps mentioning…
Express is when the platform drops the last few episodes ( usually 4-6) all at once, for a small extra fee. So you don't have to wait to finish the series! π
I tell you what two episodes without the white haired guy was a breath of fresh air because he is repulsive in…
I'm the opposite! I'm (not very) patiently waiting to check in on his story. Although that may be in part because I dont trust what he's up to when we're not looking!! π
I never thought I'd have a favourite villain... but life is full of surprises! π

Glad the drama is imminent though! πππ
