On the contrary, there are a lot of information and hints dropped as the story progresses to form a full picture by the end which is how mystery and suspense work. This is why I mentioned that I even recommend to watch this at least twice and a good observer will quickly recognize important elements to the story and how everything falls into place.
All good romance stories have tropes and cliches, but what matters is that the writing, the acting and the chemistry allows you to immerse yourself and enjoy those elements when executed correctly, which was the case here.
The character development and romance was also on point. If you have watched a few dramas you should know that romance in Dramaland is not only hugs and kissing, but caring and have that person living rent free in your head. It is clearly shown from episode 1 that the male lead likes her and care for her even when he hides it, and soon after you learn that she also likes him, but is not aware of his feelings for her thanks to his plan and his protection of her.
Every interaction between the main leads allows the viewer to see how different and more honest they become with every conversation.
Unfortunately, it is a fact that a group from a country took hostages from another country which caused a chain of events that we all hope never happen again to anybody, but the work of the female lead is related to news and the male lead is a negotiator so it makes perfect sense to have a scene like that, which again, unfortunately is not far from reality but they had the precautions to create a fictional scenario.
I cannot help but to notice that some people just decided to trick themselves into hating this and other shows because they feel offended by fictional scenarios.

I couldn't disagree more..! Every second contributed to the main plot, romance and character development one way or the other!
Different than other shows where a theme is chosen, but forgotten along the way, the whole dynamic around phone calls remain throughout the story.
The mystery was great; to the point that I believe is worth it watching the drama at least twice only to catch those smalls details that make the big picture by the end.
The enemies to lovers trope is perfectly executed with only a very light love triangle and good balance when it comes to the plot and the romance.
Finally, I don't see how the show stands for genocide in that controversial scene. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that scene or the show overall in that matter.
This is a great story with thriller vibes and perfect chemistry! Enemies to lovers trope with no break up, but a short separation during the first half of the last episode, but it fits very well with the romance and the story like everything else!
I encourage everyone to keep some of your beliefs and personal issues to yourself. This drama is fiction, and one executed very well giving us what it promised in a good plot, romance, character development and more... let's enjoy these shows by what they are instead of trying to talk nonsense based on nothing really...
She thought the reason he didn't want to study abroad was bcs of her so she decided to do that to make him go
Not "really"..? That's a yes for me, but some people don't call love triangles as such when the girl doesn't like the other guy back or just never gets to serious about it, but this answer sounds like a yes, and I guess I'll find out when I start watching...
I read in another comment that there seems to be a love triangle, and the female lead seems to be interested in another guy, which is not weird in dramas that cover youth to young adults and adults, specially for girls. The male is (usually) the only one that has only loved one girl his whole life...
