I respectfully disagree your observations. Their repartees with each other strike down everything you just wrote. Their usage of the words, especially pawn, his willingness and their initial arguments about favors became a teasing game between them. I could go on for pages recounting every one of their couple moments.

I saw some clips that was mixed with spoilers. They were very weird because the tone was comedic between SYR and Poison Princess. Just don't understand why they needed this.

I don't believe we've giggled at how she dressed up as a man in the underground market and started acting like Xiao Heng and his fan. That was so hilarious when I first saw that episode. Then Xiao Heng showed up, with HIS fan. Bwahaha.
