Eh, it is not childish to consider that ending as part of the reason to downgrade. I love The Double, took a long time writing a review, and I STILL DOWNGRADED it because of those ten minutes. Because that part spoilt the whole and it affected MY enjoyment of it. I'll give to the Director and the Drama what is his due too, no need to tell me to overlook my opinions to render Caesar or God their dues.

It's all in their dialogue--a lot of subtle word plays about their feelings and their future are in the conversations. That's why they were smiling every time a conversation ended; they understood their little flirtations.

YSJ was presented as the antithesis of SYR. He was the scholar who achieved status through hard work. He was upright and incorruptible. He supported the FL no matter what, even when bribed/threatened by a higher status person. He loved the FL unconditionally, even when she didn't love him back. He was just written as a foil, to show SYR and us that choices are made to create fate.

The story is about justice and retribution, so the writer wasn't very subtle about how it came about. So the man who wanted to climb high would die jumping off from on high. The woman who wanted to steal an innocent would have her own most innocent part of her taken from her (even if it was fake). The woman who made another woman pretend to be insane and have her kept prisoner would herself end up insane and kept.
