It is a comfort rewatch. I Liked how the FL was smart and cool at the same time. In many ways, Seven reminded me of a less rambunctious LuSi. 😂 And the way she dealt with villainess was fun to watch.

I do think it really picks up from 10 on when he started including her in his plans.

It's hard to say. Have you watched The Sword and The Brocade with Seven Tan? The story is entirely different, but the pacing is like that--slow and steady. I remember the built-up to the final love confession was at a snail's crawl and many drama fans found it boring but I enjoyed it because the drama showcased the FL's smartness and smart-alecness as she slowly gained the ML's attention and trust.

TSOPG is actually a serious drama with idol actors, LOL. That's why some idol drama fans are confused. The writers were smart--they inserted Eps 16 and 17 to satisfy our thirst for idol romance and then after that went back to creating their story about a slave who made it big. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE, MS WRITER.

Yes, I like the way they did it too. There were some hiccups in the plot because of this (like needing the entire city of her father's district to just be trustworthy enough to continue calling her Lady Jiang in public!) but I do like the tension of ML wanting her to admit the truth to him, rather than have him believing about reincarnation.

A quickie walk-thru of the Silk Road (which might make you laugh even though it's not meant to be humorous LOL).
