I do not watch costume dramas so am no expert, but I have all along felt like his greatest strength is strategy. And as others have noted, he's still covered in injuries that are still healing.

I was just about to comment on this. It is so good and lovely the way his crew accepts and respects her. They also seem to love that he loves her of all people. He turned down a princess so she has to be pretty special. They also respect her ability. This series is soooooooo good!!!

He definitely has a little crush going on but I don't think he'd ever act on it.

She's actually quite nice and would not in that scenario expect anyone who offended her to face catastrophic consequences, or even any consequences. If anything, she seems to welcome being treated normally. Those earrings are her only concession to a bit of vanity.

Oh, I think he definitely knows he's in trouble and that's why he swooped her up. Her face went from smiling and happy to see him to WTAF.
