Even just from what you wrote, I can see how the film works as a sort of fable or morality tale, with virtues and vices clearly personified. As a Thai, it’s interesting to see how our history and kingship get simplified in this way for storytelling, especially when you mention King Chatra and the 1540 setting. I know that era wasn’t all virtue, so it’s fascinating (and a bit tricky) how they flattened history into this binary.
I also find your point about the western-style music and the filming energy really intriguing. I can imagine the extras running around, shouting, it sounds chaotic but fun! 😂
And your questions about chauvinistic nationalism and residual anxieties from past Burmese invasions… yeah, that makes a lot of sense historically. Thai history is full of these lingering memories, and films often reflect that in subtle ways, even unintentionally.
I haven’t watched the film yet, but your review makes me want to see it with all these layers in mind. Hopefully, I can spot the humour, the moral contrasts, and the historical echoes you’re talking about!
Honestly, Haruka’s part sounds so bittersweet… that wedding dress scene must’ve been really painful to watch. But at the same time, I kinda respect her decision. It feels very true to her character, choosing herself and trying to understand her mental health better. And Denmark + that new goal actually sounds like a fresh, meaningful path for her.
Kanon’s story sounds a lot more straightforward but still emotional in its own way. The proposal happening like that (with the daughter involved too) actually feels kinda wholesome. I’m glad she got a happy ending, especially with a family around her now. I was really drawn to her character the most !
It’s a shame the episode is so hard to find, but your explanation really helped me picture everything clearly. Thanks again for sharing this with me!
And also Kanon ?
Thank you for the reply btw :))
The only thing is the time duration being quite too much, but Wang Chen Peng did a great job !
Can you spoil it for me
Thanks for the reply and effort<3
It was nice seeing strong three women fighting for justice
