HT has been very kind to her always. Even scolding her, he presents her with a banquet of her favorite dishes.…
He has been very gracious towards her. Even contrary to what viewers expect. But he respected her as a friend, business partner and everything she did for him. So he has never been very harsh.
Even though LiLi is suffering, I actually like how fiercely protective XYX is. Their relationship will either suffer because of this, or because of the incoming revelation of the ties to Hanhai and what happens to Xingchen.
I actually kinda understand ZD. For at least a decade, she has dedicated her life to HT. She made herself revolve around him and feelings are hard to control. But she should not have crossed the line. She should stop here and tell her man to stop here too. Whatever HT does now will be on them.
TBH, the greatest blessing in LR's life and then in the lives of many people is PWX. He is such a steady character. His only inferiority was in LR's relationship with SRQ because of their past life and we can't blame him for that. He knew the right things to say and do, very patient, confident in himself, did not feel like an inferior person because he did not know things or because his wife is very powerful. So supportive, loving and loyal. Because of him, in many ways, LR is finally not lonely. She had her family and friends with her this time around and her home did not feel cold.
I really like how they used the "dream" statements scattered sparingly in the show, to pass censorship. It did not painfully take us out of the fantasy that is the show. That was really smart. They were able to avoid the Scent of time and SOKP situations. It's so good because this was my biggest fear from the beginning. I was so so worried since it did not start like SOKP did.
I really and truly recommend reading the novel. You will understand why people are so angry. SRQ was more pitiful…
My conclusion from the story is that unlike fiction, there are no second chances to get do overs, so live carefully. LR in her first life became her mother, but a worse version. LC was also forced into becoming the tyrant his father wanted to be, but did not have the fortitude to become, so really a worse version of his dad. SRQ was a righteous aristocrat (but really, how righteous are they really?), but was very deeply wounded by the tragedy of his family and followed the way he was raised to become even worse than his father. Shangguan Ya and Su Ronghua also changed because of the events around them. In the end, only QZZ and PWX were untainted by the circumstances in both lifetimes. The story also shows that you can know everything in advance and still make the wrong choice. So really, in the end, we should all live carefully. Try to live morally, be more open to the thoughts and feelings of others, be less arrogant, be more forgiving.
I really and truly recommend reading the novel. You will understand why people are so angry. SRQ was more pitiful and understandable in the novel than in the show. They tried too much to make him stand out and to write a sad romance between him and LR and because of that, it felt like they sacrificed all LR-PWX growth and scenes because of him. They also made so many powerful and meaningful scenes lacklustre and decided to omit important stuff. It was like they failed to grasp the full essence of the novel, so the adaptation leaves much to be desired.
But read the novel not to understand the outrage, but to enjoy a fuller and more beautiful story. It'll make you more invested in the characters.
You know how you can tell writers want to add their own flavour to an adaptation and so write some scenes in new ways. They sometimes do a better job and some are able to translate the feel of the scene from paper to screen. Then some do something maybe not spectacular, but not terrible, almost on the same plane. The writer, director and producers for TPR went in the direction no sane person should go. They diluted all the powerful scenes and made it very lacklustre. Unless this is a united effort to bring even more people to read the novel, then I do not understand. How can you not once, twice, or five times, downplay important scenes, remove important lines and make lacklustre scenes that had power and weight? Aren't powerful scenes written to show emotion of the characters and as a bonus, for dramatic effect? They are lucky the leads ate with their acting and chemistry.
I want to explain SRH. He is not a bad person or a spineless person. He is quite smart. The issue here is that he feels guilty for what SRQ went through to be the head of the family because he abandoned the role as a kid. SRQ was very strictly trained to take on this role and that gave SRH the freedom to pursue his own interests. In their family too, they deeply love and care for each other, so we can't expect SRH to abandon his brother just like that. He is aware of a lot of things that SRQ is doing and how he has changed, but he is not aware of all of it. He also still has hope for his brother because he was never a bad person. And to him, he is acting based on what he was raised to protect. But he will find out everything soon, and make his choice. But we can't expect him to abandon a brother he cares about and that he feels guilty for. That would be out of character.
I think one of the problems with XYX is that he has to keep a lot of secrets. He has to appear not too close to HT, like in their first meeting on screen in the club, with those other guys. He is the person through which HT makes hidden investments like with the club, Guanghua and Hanhai. He also has a lot of secrets to keep concerning these investments, so he has to evade all the time. So this makes up a part of his personality and is affecting his relationship with Lili.
Because of him, in many ways, LR is finally not lonely. She had her family and friends with her this time around and her home did not feel cold.
