I feel the same way about the emotional scenes in this drama. Not only the Shen Yi subplot but all the other "emotional" scenes in this drama where it was supposed to be emotional was just too shallow and didn't get the development it needed and thus I didn't feel for any of it as much as I should've. This drama really needed to work in the emotions department lol. At first I thought Xu Tongsheng had a low EQ but it seems like Shen Ye also has a low EQ lmao. Like he just walked that off too quick and easy didn't he?? Like bruh. Your dad died. The person that you called a dad for so many years just died by suicide after not even being able to hug you for a last time. Shouldn't you feel guilty? Bruh I am so disappointed with the Shen Yi plotline, like gurll what?? He died just like that??? Wtf and also Shen Ye didn't actually even feel anything for his dad. Even though he was a piece of shit he still should have had some feelings for him cause he lived with him for so long?? And all things considered Shen Yi up until a certain point took quite good care of him. Shen Ye just got over the death of his dad too quick. It doesn't make sense. Considering that the drama has been dragging so many subplots idk why they didn't give these two Shen characters some much needed closure

Not only chinese dramas though, koren dramas do that too. Japanese dramas are maybe the only ones who's main genre isn't romance! They don't include it everywhere but when they do they do it right. These people sometimes don't even know how to properly write a romantic plot. It just feels unnecessary and boring. I am not saying that this drama won't be good but just that majority romance dramas are like that. And when a different genre drama has a romance subplot they suddenly focus on the romance and sideline everything else. Just disappointing at times smh

There so many romantic dramas already give us non romance lovers something else too but no! They have to make everything about romance. Not everything has to have romance in it.
