That’s an interesting perspective I haven’t really heard before. It actually took me five days just to decide whether that scene in the desert was a dream sequence or not… shibal haha.I’m still not entirely sure.In one of the episodes, he did mention that he wanted to take her there — to the Gobi Desert.Maybe he “left” her there symbolically with that necklace.Only God and the creators know for sure.Anyway, I really like that 180-degree turn — from promising to stand behind her, to… not.She suffers, waits, prays in church for her love to return, and then ends up standing there, smiling, strong, and becoming president. Which is beautiful in a way, because her ex-husband was selfish, while Sanho always believed in her and supported her, even when he wanted to run away with her. What really broke my heart was the moment he realized she had planted a bug in his necklace. You could see how much that hurt him — even though he’s seen as a hero in the U.S., in South Korea he’ll probably always be viewed as a spy because of the Upload. (I mean, come on — she could’ve at least shown a bit more effort to prove he wasn’t!) what also pissed me off was that we never know what it was he told her whilst the ship was about to explode 😭 Do you know how long it usually takes to find out whether there will be another season?anyways thanks for chatting haha

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I really enjoyed reading your review, too. Your thoughts on the ending are quite similar to mine — I actually explained a bit more about it in another review. I truly loved the series.
A lot of people interpret the open door as a sign that he’s still alive and that he consciously chose to say goodbye forever. But that just makes absolutely no sense. And if that really was the intention, then unfortunately it’s just poorly written by the creators — because he was always portrayed as someone who would do anything to protect her.
It just doesn’t fit his character to decide to completely let her go and stay behind in the desert. At the very least, he would’ve stayed close enough to step in if needed. Or maybe I’m just completely misreading everything 😂
Acting 8/10? Nahhh the acting n chemistry is insane and you don’t really und that in other k dramas. You’re right. The story didn’t add up but still the actors is 10/10
If you're wondering if he died, no, he didn’t. The gates of the control room was open and it was empty. His…
This "The only reason seeing him in the desert wasn’t as clear cut was only because earlier they had shown her husband telling her about his son whilst she was reading the letter."
Why y'all aren't talking about the line - "if I have eight minutes to live, I want to spend all eight of them…
It was beautiful, but they don’t deserve an award because they ruined the picture of him by him staying in the desert and burying her necklace as in letting her go completely that doesn’t make sense because he always promised to be there
I just have a question, why did he bury the necklace? If I were him I'd want to keep it on me. Unless it has a…
Poorly written. For eight and a half episodes, they portrayed him as the man who would do anything to stand behind her and protect her. He even encouraged her not to run away with him and promised to keep supporting her.
And then, in the end, they decide he buries the necklace — the only thing he had left of her — effectively saying a final goodbye and leaving her completely broken.
What I understood is that San-Ho died in the explosion, but some viewers just don’t want to believe it. 🙂…
I was hoping that the desert scene was just her imagination, but it can’t be. She never saw him pick up the necklace again after she threw it away — that scene after she found out about her ex-husband’s affair, when she tossed it aside.
So that makes the ending even worse. The creators clearly decided that he chose to say a final goodbye — that’s why he buries the necklace in the place he once dreamed of taking her. And that’s such a terrible ending, because those two loved each other so deeply, and he always promised to watch over her and stay close to her. and then decided to broke his promise. okay ?
LoL 😂.. it hurts but he had to go so she can fulfill her dream
he didn’t have to leave her for good. also he’s considered a hero in the US. why would he harm her if he’s with her or at least watching her from a far ? rather sit in the desert ? it doesn’t add up to everything he’s said and done before. it’s bad writing. she’s broken.
I don't know what's sadder, that he died or that he left her alone with a broken heart.
Definitely part 2. Seriously it just doesn’t make sense after all he did and said. But since she doesn’t know he picked up the necklace when she threw it away it means the scene in the desert wasn’t her imagination and him saying goodbye.
Sanho’s “death” doesn’t fully land, too many suspicious details in that ship scene, an empty control room,…
I had to laugh about that Amnesie Part.
I’d honestly rather believe he has amnesia than accept that the writers actually came up with that nonsense — that he chose to never see her again and said goodbye in the desert by burying the necklace. That makes zero sense, especially after he kept promising over and over that he’d stay by her side, even if she couldn’t see him.
If you're wondering if he died, no, he didn’t. The gates of the control room was open and it was empty. His…
I’m not entirely with you on this one.
He’s American — he even receives the Medal of Honor in the U.S. I honestly think the writers messed up the ending.
It makes no sense that he promises her a hundred times that he’ll always be there for her, behind her, protecting her — and then he breaks her heart, chooses to live alone, and even lets go of her necklace, the last thing he had left of her.
That’s just bad writing, because his whole character was built around that vow: “I’m here, and I’ll stay with you.” But who knows what exactly he told her on that boat that made her leave in the end.

No she has not found him again because in the last sequence in the church she prays : and once the people found peace please bring me back my poor lost love.
can you maybe explain to me the last Sequenz in the desert with the necklace ? was it dream ? I don’t get why…
I’m completely with you on that.
But if the explanation really is that he thinks it’s better to stay away entirely, that’s just way too much of a 180-degree turn. The episode before, in that scene in the rain, he literally said he didn’t want her to run away — that she should keep following her political convictions and her desire to help others, and that he’d always be there.
And then suddenly he decides to stay behind in the desert and lets go of the necklace from the love of his life — the one who made it painfully clear how much she needs him?
No way. If that desert scene was actually real, I’m gonna be so mad 🤣
I dont think the scene in the desert was real. if he made it out alive he would’ve went to her to protect her. even if she doesn’t notice it. but fairly he wouldn’t sit in the desert tho since he made a promise to her and always acted on it.
I think it was more symbolic because he wanted to take her there.
what do you think.
I am unsatisfied with the ending. so many questions I don’t like it. -.-
what also pissed me off was that we never know what it was he told her whilst the ship was about to explode 😭

I guess we just need a second season so we can die in peace 🌚
What’s your take on the desert/necklace scene ?
