Truth be told, I sympathize and identify with "villains" more than "heroes"
Unlike the mediocre and listless "heroes," Goongtan was a mixture of "hero" and "villain" characterized by ambiguity, machiavellianism and modesty
In episode 3, Goongtan went out of his way to raise little Yeom Ji, encapsulating his emotional complexity and reminding us that, at heart, he's a human
He most likely saw himself in the child. His childhood, marked by maltreatment and negligence, elucidated the motivation of his "parricide." Up against the ropes, he "murdered" his toxic "parents" and averted the same threat to the integrity faced by another child (little Yeom Ji). That's my theory. That child maltreatment precedes "parricides" answers our questions, "what happened to little Goongtan before he was turned into a demon?" and "why did Goongtan stand up for little Yeom Ji?"
He may have committed crimes, but he's a demon with a helpless, familial and infantile side
Goongtan, Van, Johan and his brother could have been a happy family. That won't happen in this story. And I'm afraid, I will have to drop it
Jae Wook pressed his forehead into Dong Wook's temple and asked, "now that I've got you, what do you want me to do with you?"
Dong Wook provocatively smiled at him
"Take me somewhere we can't get hurt by other people"
And Jae Wook took him in his arms and kissed him under the sky, caring not that they stood in the sight of many

Jae Wook and Dong Wook could have won Best Couple Award. But there can be more to a story than cheesy pick-up lines and romance. The Guest wasn't built around them. And that's for the best

Allow me to reiterate my response to your other similar comment
Goongtan didn't "murder thousands of innocent people"
What innocence? Humans embody pride, avarice and desires spun out of control. This innate depravity is total: humans inherited a predisposition toward transgression and immorality
Humans, creatures worse than demons, are okay with "murdering" demons. Why wouldn't a demon be okay with "murdering" humans?
The majority of humans would have done unto Goongtan what the Leader did unto him, for the "greater good" of themselves and the maximization of their self-interests. It would be unlikely for him to have "murdered" an "innocent" person
And "parricide offenders" are almost always survivors of neglect and dysfunctional parenting who "murder" their "parents" out of desperation
What do we know about Goongtan's "parents"? The sudden revelation that he "murdered" them seems to be a poor attempt at demonizing him (no pun intended). Goongtan didn't act without a reason
I don't know if you have seen the most recent episode but we find out that Gungtan killed his own parents. He…

So we know the reason behind guntan's anger and while i understand it, i don't condone it. You can't go on a killing…
"You can't go on a "killing" spree just because of this"
Just because of this? He was wounded by humans. Noone entered Goongtan's heart to hear his screams when he was starved and shackled. He was then turned into a demon, the discontinuity and rupture in his previously human identity triggering in him a search for purpose and closure. There was none to be found. Rather than fading with the passage of time, his trauma darkened, like electric bulbs going out one by one
He snapped. Not because he's weak. But because he's been strong for too long
"Van has always been more human, more empathetic compared to him"
A human doesn't only feel love and empathy. A human feels anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, grief, confusion, loss of self-esteem, and loss of trust
Van preserved trust in humans. Goongtan lost that trust. And ironically, that quality defines Goongtan as a human, propelling him to his own greatness
"When we have something or someone to protect, we become stronger"
"Love" and "kindness" weaken a person. You'd be bound to do silly things
Note: Goongtan was told that his purpose was to go on a so-called "killing spree." He's doing what humans wanted him to do

"Hell is right here," and he was right. Van should have stayed by Goongtan’s side

I'd want to see him rebel against his daddy "god" and develop feelings for Nam Gil (Van), a demon, though

Dropping season 2, probably. Season 1 will always be superior
In other words, Sha Po Lang does contain BL elements, albeit heavily censored ones
"I will take care of [Ji Ho.] Most people don't deserve unconditional kindness. [Ji Ho] is different"
Park Hoon saw the degree to which his kind Ahn Ji Ho was integrated into the structure of this unkind society as the factor triggering his suicide
Beside himself, Hoon attended to Ji Ho, almost plucking from him the fruits of love, which awakened him: https://imgur.com/a/gE4nizG
I ship Ji Ho with Chan Young, but Hoon was qualified for the "sugar daddy" position. He could have been an older man who spends lavishly on his boys
