What is 'platonic romance'?
correct- my intentions were to emphasize a platonic relationship
-intimate/ affectionate but non sexual-

my mishap in wording was when I used “plantinic romance” however, romance can also feel/ be platonic in nature too. I wasn’t angling for specificities for something as neuanced as the topic

What is 'platonic romance'?
in short…intimacy that doesn’t involve a sexual bond. it’s primarily a mutual trust through deep emotional connection that transcends the physical.

To imply that Krailert and Naran’s relationship is purely physical just doesn’t seem right to me.

let us not forget, these are the same two who had us all in search of our distinguished gentleman & gentlewomen at our local libraries, just last week! K/N had an entire platonic romance (unbeknownst to them) long before they became physical.

They are both two intellectual literary scholars who understand the fundamentals of politics and get off on reading books (Literally)

I absolutely love the fluff in this show!

But let's be real here...It should not take 11 episodes for two consenting adults to figure this thing out.

the fact that ep 8 gave us a full run-down of the FL's dating life, AND a break up scene, ALL IN ONE episode (which we didn't even ask for, but appreciated)
so how are the MLs still teetering back & forth.

Yes, Tojo has been out of the dating loop for over a decade. So what!!! ? The man is still in his late 30's not late 60's. Culturally I can understand the hesitance, but that doesn't mean it makes sense.

All and All, I am still rooting for their happy ending.

Unpopular take here. Naran is such a jerk to his girlfriend's family and Krailert is also such a jerk to his wife.…
If Naran is a “jerk” for standing up for himself (having a backbone) in a room full of condescending rich snobs, cloaked in respectability politics, then I’m all for that “jerk like behavior”

if you have to strip someone of their dignity in order to feel superior, then who’s the real jerk here!?

however, Krailert on the other hand, is in fact a jerk for cheating.

I wish krailert and Dhevi had an open discussion/ agreement upfront to see other people, or at least until the father died and they didn’t have to live under his dictatorship. Arranged marriages are diabolical!

I’ve noticed (across platforms) that people usually speak negatively about characters that have a more reserved spirit as if it's a character flaw; Its not!

Taking time alone to recharge is essential for many of us—it's how we process our thoughts and find inspiration.

I personally love to see people LIVE OUT LOUD. I enjoy being around this type of infectious energy. It’s important to note that everyone’s excitement level is subjective and each person contributes unique perspectives that enhance our understanding of life’s complexities. We can all enjoy the carefree spirit of extroverts while also valuing the depth and richness that comes from being more reserved.

However, my boundaries are NOT up for debate, they are to be understood! It’s all about balance and mutual respect.

‘The characters in question’

Tanwa (seemingly carefree, extrovert, yet repressed and practical) and Trin (reserved, introvert, somewhat naive and idealistic) are such a beautiful representation of what happens when two people with two completely different backgrounds collide.

Each character has their own journey, struggles, and complexities. But they are all deserving of love…most importantly a mutual love that embraces and accepts them for their authentic selves.

I want to see everyone SHINE
(pun intended)

Krailert and Naran are such an electrifying pair!

Unfortunately, each week I am left with this sense of impending doom for them and that angers me! I don’t necessarily need a “happy ending” but PLEASE don’t let it be a tragic one.

Honestly that felt cringe and lame
let’s stay on topic & task, ok? ok!

for a show that you believe is plotless, has poor writing and lacks intelectual nuance; somehow it keeps being the highlight of your weekend! 🙃

Honestly that felt cringe and lame
this same baseless account is back at it …creating unnecessary discourse in order to amp up their ego. just ignore them everyone! at this point I’m convinced it’s a cry for help.

Love this but my heart goes out to dhevi. Am sorry her husband aint shit. He needs to figure his stuff out grow…
I too wish for Dhevi to have her happy ending.. but Krailert isn’t some horrible monster. He didn’t ask to be forced in a marriage against his Will. If he defies the general he will probably be “disappeared” just like his ex! I do wish him & his wife would make some kind of agreement instead of him being so cold towards her. unfortunately, life and relationships for queer people doing those times were way more complicated and dangerous for them to simply “figure out” …but I get your point.

The tension was fucking real, I have watched the scene more than twice, and the way they exchanged code... freaking…
To find someone that speaks your intellectual love language is so sexy & rare.
They fell in love with each other well before they actually met.

theres nothing wrong with calling it a BL its a gay romance story with political elements making it a BL
Deviating from the stereotypical cliche "BL tropes" to allow for nuance is what makes BOC so great at what they do/doing. This show is all of the things mentioned above, while still being firmly planted in the Genre of BL...doesn't make it any less of a political story. In my humble opinion of course.

Title Shine (Orchestric Ver.) Spoiler
I really love this series but I’m starting to worry not all the characters will be alive at the end. I’m not…
Same! ever since I learned that Krailert's ex was "disappeared" I've felt uneasy about both of the couples. I'm low-key holding my breath until the end. * fingers crossed*

Sigh • Trin is Thai, from a very affluent family, who studied abroad in France during the Cold War and returned…
lol…wait, an award winning writer debating in the comment section of MDL about another film.

it’s very clear to me that this was never about the “lack of plot”… you just couldn’t accept that this story far exceeds anything that you could ever produce and that bothers you. projecting your insecurities in a disposable thread won’t heal those wounds. anywho, see you next week, my friend 🤭

FYI.
talented people wouldn’t talk crap about a globally successful project such as “Shine”.
that’s just tacky. don’t you think?💭
