Well said. This is essentially an industry investing in its own future and developing the next generation of promising talent. An industry that neglects the future is a soon-to-be dead one. Ai Mi, like Jinmai, Wu Lei, and countless others before, has been identified as part of a small handful of exceptional child actors in her age bracket.
The investment of resources makes perfect sense. Pairing a gifted up-and-comer with a more established star is a logical decision for an industry, as development of talent must be nested in the production of successful shows. We saw the same thing with Wang Xingyue teaming up with Bai Lu multiple times. This fantasy that Ai Mi can just do fluffy high school dramas with some unknown 17 yo ML until she is 20 is quite frankly laughable. They want to further develop her talent, not hinder or stunt her growth by wasting it on some obscure high school show with low viewership that earns no profit. High-quality school-based dramas such as Ray of Light (2023) only come out sporadically. Talent development is also non-linear; child actors have proven results on-screen, while those with no experience who come through the academies have yet to be tested. This is why standout child actors start off ahead of the competition. Another thing to consider, is that you can't always get a perfectly matched ratio of male talent to female talent, and often the development happens at a different rate given the specific requirements of gender-specific roles. There really isn't a lot of teen talent to pair Ai Mi with. More talent will emerge in the future from the academies and other pathways, but for now, it is what it is.
Her four recent (if you include her 2024 war film "Breakthrough") lead roles have been carefully selected and are wise decisions for her age. Breakthrough (2024) had the initial sparks of attraction and growing closer together, but it was framed as part of the sacrifice and tragedy of war. Above the Wall, her first lead role in a dramatic series, is a crime drama, and has no romantic component for Ai Mi. KTTPH and A Chan have romance as a smaller complimentary component with the focus on other areas. The lesser romantic component will let Ai Mi further develop her skills in this area before she turns 18, without the pressure of it being the main selling point. She'll be required to do more than she did in MJTY, SOT, and FOF, but won't be asked to dive into the deep end and put the drama over with passionate scenes. In many ways, these aspects will be pre-romance development exercises; selling on-screen affection with minimal physical contact. When she turns 18+, should she feel comfortable adding physical / intimate scenes to her repertoire, she will already have a strong base of non-physical skills to build the physical variety upon.

It's great to see Lin Yi step away from pure romance and return to a role with multiple thematic elements in motion. Reuters reveal intense dramatic scenes mixed with plenty of thrilling action. Soul / gender-swapping humour mixed with tender moments to showcase their affection and chemistry. It really looks like a great project for the both of them. I look forward to seeing this talented pair on our screens sometime in the not too distant future.

Mai Mai really is "Little Miss Romance." She's just killing it. I wrapped up 30. The writers took a perverse pleasure in torturing ZX this episode. It was both a little sad and immensely satisfying 🥺😈
😂 Never has a drama achieved such a perfect cringe 😬. That was absolutely brutal. It just kept escalating and getting worse for ZX. I think a name change and relocation to a remote fishing 🎣🦦 village is in order.
