Iâm surprised by a lot of the reactions here. This was always a series about an alien bakery. The rights may have changed but the plot line never did. Yâall wanted this tomfoolery of a series years ago but now that itâs finally here itâs too childish? Lol. Even Jeffâs own remarks about the series were consistently lighthearted and unserious in tone. I guess Iâm just confused because what kind of series were some of yaâll expecting if not literally this? đ€Ł
I was indifferent to the pilot and had little to no intention of even watching because I never liked this pairing. I loved Jeff in KP but didnât care for Barcode at all. It was only after he impressed me in Revamp that I added this to my watchlist. I like him a lot better in this than KP.
Is this series a hot mess? Sure, but it was always a low budget project and surely Jeff and Barcode knew as much when they took on the project in the first place. At the end of the day they saw something worthy in the script at the time and I imagine they had a lot of fun with these characters. Iâd love to see some bloopers! Point is, itâs not a serious series! Never was. And honestly itâs a really good thing itâs not because the fact that it is a comedy works much better against its noticeably low budget! Iâd rather watch this alien bakery nonsense 10x on a loop than suffer through even 5 minutes of Love is Like a Cat again.
Also, the OST is so pretty!
TL;DR - people be taking this unserious series too seriously
Maybe they changed the character a bit to better suit the new actor but as it stands I canât imagine James in the role of Klao. Not a slight to him or anyone else, just an observation. Iâm not entirely sold on Net and JJ as a pair (yet) either. They look like they could be brothers đ
That said - the series is pretty good, though I definitely preferred the vibe of the first episode. Also, hope the second pair gets a series of their own in the future. Theyâre charming.
itâs the song after that one! it plays during their magic mike type dance lol. I was so fixated on that song I didnât even realize there had been another song before it lol
"I feel like he shouldâve taken legal action much sooner"these people are not us-americans whose first…
I actually agree. I shouldâve said threatened legal action as that is often an effective way to get both parties to the negotiating table for discussion. Taking legal action is understandably the last resort.
I recall that statement but at the time I thought it was oddly worded since it seemed to be more about his likeness being used without prior authorization and not having authorized an official release of the series. Did his original contract grant him those particular rights? And if so would those rights have still been valid after the sell-off? Who knows. I believe it was around this time that the first âofficialâ poster image was released on the companyâs website and there was speculation it was AI generated or something, so him making that statement on the heels of that image circulating made sense at the time given the context re: his likeness being used. But as far as him not being paid for the work - which is really the crux of the issue today - he made no mention of that then. Fast-forward to present day, the company is now insisting after Jeffâs latest statement that the actors were paid an appearance fee - is that terminology relevant to their likeness or their work on the series itself because legally speaking both would technically be considered two different things here in the states so Iâd wager the distinction matters elsewhere too. Depending on the answer, the root of the confusion and misunderstanding may lie with Jeffâs original statement about his likeness. I donât know though. Iâm just trying to understand from what little details we have in front of us.
To reiterate, Iâm not blaming any of the actors and I am reserving judgement on the new company. The only party to blame (at least as of now) is Hanyang, in my opinion.
Not trying to overly criticize Jeff because he is 100% entitled to the dues he is owed but I feel like he shouldâve * threatened * legal action much sooner. His camp had knowledge of the series being sold off to another company after Hanyangâa bankruptcy for some time. Did he think someone else came in and bought up the rights just to stick the series in their own easy bake oven for another 2+ years bake?! Point being, he shouldâve made a statement after the rights for the series was known to have changed hands. At least then the company that bought it couldâve maybe gone about things differently but instead they invested more money into hiring actors to shoot additional scenes, arranging for OSTs, and whatever else that may have been required of them in post editing to turn what I imagine was an unfinished hot mess into a watchable series. Now they are in a bind too because not only did they invest money into buying what was very likely to be Love is Like a Cat 2.0 had it actually lived to see the light of day under Hanyang but they also put even more money and resources into doing what broke Hanyang failed to do, which was finishing the damn thing and negotiating streaming deals so fans could finally see it! And fans got exited AGAIN just to be left disappointed AGAIN - only Iâd argue this time around was worse because there was a trailer and an official release date in sight! All it took was one statement from Jeff for that all to go away.
All this to say, the fault obviously lies with Hanyang but I think Jeff shouldâve made a statement threatening legal action sooner, or at least before it reached the point of being a fully finished series with release date and streaming deals. In any case, itâs unfortunate for everyone involved except Hanyang since they appear to be the only party in this self-made mess to have gotten PAID for a project they failed to finish and didnât compensate their talent for đ€Ź

I still have a ways to go (5/20) though so maybe itâll improve?

They deserve better than Temu HP.
