i was pretty excited about the premise and i'm usually good with some silly cliches in jdramas and all but FRICK. i can't do this one. the male lead's acting is the worst i can ever remember seeing in a regular-quality production. he's like someone doing an exaggerated sarcastic parody and just comes off weird and gross as hell. it's like some 12-yo's cringy idea of an alpha man. female lead is pretty cute and likable but that's not gonna be enough for me to keep watching

i also speak japanese and i kinda agree with you, but i'm gonna tell you you might not wanna die on this hill. japanese people themselves, when they write the romaji for their own names, will often do this. it's probably because actually the most "correct" romanization is with the macron like ū, but the special character is annoying to type and ends up turning into just u.

i also agree writing it out as uu is the best for clarity, but you're gonna see a whole lot of romanization of long vowels as just one single vowel within japan too. that's just how it be. saying the translators are wrong is pretty harsh when they're actually using a very common method, even if it's a method you and i don't really like. they don't need to be checking the official website to know his name has a long vowel sound, they can just hear how it's said, but they chose to write it out like this on purpose.

this method is used consistently here too, it's not like they're just doing it with yuuki. like the one you didn't even mention, kira ryohei. it's a long ryou sound actually, but it's spelled with the short one like all the others. it's just the choice they've made out of the options they have, and it's a very common choice.

i'm gonna give you one famous example of literally this same name (though a first name & with different kanji): the formula one driver 角田 裕毅 つのだゆうき. his name is also what i would spell as yuuki, but you are Not gonna find it spelled that way ever. google him and all you'll get is yuki tsunoda, maybe occasionally tsunoda yūki. here's him on the formula one official website if you wanna see: https://www.formula1.com/en/drivers/yuki-tsunoda.html

so yeah you're unfortunately just gonna have to get used to this. official translators both with japanese backgrounds and foreign backgrounds very often use this shitty unclear method of romanization where you're just gonna have to guess if it's a long or short sound. it's actually the unpaid fansubbers/scanlators etc that are the ones most likely to use the uu method. it's kinda wild west out there with romanization sometimes

i thought what rang was some kind of a backup alarm/regular everyday alarm. he had set an earlier alarm on his phone, but it had died because it wasn't plugged into the charger like it was supposed to be. that's why he was so surprised and distraught when he woke up. not that unrealistic of a scenario. not to say the writing here is some top class realism but y'know

HARD AGREE. word of honor showed the height of romance with a simple scene of the two characters calling each other's names for no reason. a kiss scene could never manage that kind of portrayal of love

i feel like the censored adaptations end up having to put more focus on reasons why the two people want to be together besides being sexually attracted to each other. they don't end up as easily falling into the "well these two people are both really good looking so of course they just fall in love" trap of many romance stories. they need to show a real emotional connection and development to sell the relationship to the viewer. it's often the little subtle things that get past censorship that are exactly the sorts of things that look the most realistic and meaningful, when in some romances the kiss scenes and such can come off as gratuitous and the characters' feelings seem to lack a solid basis. anyway i'm rambling but yep i'm also not that mad about the censorship (in terms of romance story development - societal impact is another thing) so long as they don't add a different badly developed straight romance to try to hide the gay

i really hope wu bi gets more fighting scenes cus damn the martial arts was kinda bomb?? i wonder if the actor has a martial arts background or at least dancing or something

also this is full-on bl, i don't need kissing scenes if i can see these subtle but way more meaningful scenes of them together. even just tiny things like how wu bi sits up straighter when he sees su yu feel so real and make his feelings loud and clear. there's bl series with obligatory kissing scenes that show way less chemistry and Love between the leads, i'm just gonna say it (cough 2-cough)

a really satisfying ending, but still so much left to explore that could make for a killer season 2! here's to hoping!!

they did explore the reason why they hated each other! it was from the time guangyan scoffed after reading what yiyong wrote in his career planning paper. the whole career thing is a soft spot for yiyong, so he got offended and then started to mess with him

the vibe is a bit different from the first season now that they're actually together, but it's still got a lot of the same feeling. now kiyoi is finally capable of showing his emotions more which is nice to see (even though he might kick hira right after haha). seeing them living together and being domestic, this felt like one of those sweet special episodes after a show's ended. i wonder how the next 3 are gonna be, cus the intro was actually more dark than the first season, even though the contents were way Less dark. calm before the storm?

i watched in japanese without eng sub, found it on bilibili. the episode really doesn't have much content in the 6 mins though like i said, wouldn't really recommend it

watched the bl episode 4 and i guess i should've known from the title, but i still wasn't expecting the whole episode to really be just kissing haha

i like it but it does feel pretty silly, it's hard to take seriously even when it should be more emotional. the acting is sometimes subpar and that plot device at the end of ep 3 was like ... yeah right. still looking forward to some more silliness next week when the gay canadian ex turns up, that ought to be something

he's completely banned from doing any acting/singing/etc, with his social medias banned as well. he's essentially expected to disappear. last i heard he finally managed to file a lawsuit about it, since it was never properly inspected and he was framed basically

that's neither of these guys, i think you're confused with zhang zhehan from word of honor. his entire career and life was ruined less than a year ago for "being unpatriotic" and supposedly visiting a shrine for ww ii criminals in japan. this particular drama isn't coming out just cus none of the 2-ml dramas are coming out basically

it looks like all four episodes are out on hulu already! haven't watched yet though
