I still haven't gathered all my thoughts on the subject but I think there's something here about how ZSC needs…
Love your thoughts on this. To me, Shiyi's book that she wrote on both their past lives is so important. I felt it wasn't given proper closure. We as viewers were sort of robbed of the need to know that ZSC really knows that they knew each other and were in love in their past life. Due to censorship, it was watered down to merely a dream and Shiyi rewriting a biography based on her dream when throughout the whole drama, she told him a few times, they know each other in the past. So, it's a bit weird. I never cried so much before for a drama, but my heart really broke at One and Only. I think I as a viewer would have preferred if they at least have ZSC spoke that exact line from the novel. The one that he said, "I think I must have used my beautiful bones as an exchange for you to remember me". He was cruelly and unjustly executed and for debone just because of the "beautiful bones" he was known for. It would have been a better closure if that line was spoken. It is as if ZSC past or present felt it was worth dying the way he did in the past because it gave him a more beautiful future with Shiyu
I'm glad that 95% of the story stick entirely with the novel...…..that's very rare in c-drama adaptations...…
Except for the reincarnation part. It wasn't really mentioned in the drama cuz censorship but throughout the whole drama.. Shiyi keep saying She knows him in the past. But when ZSC got her book, they watered the whole thing down to just a dream/biography. So it is confusing....u can feel the director try to hint at reincarnation but not mentioned it
I have finally finish the whole drama. Omg. Can i just say how much i hate the reincarnation censorship? Like why??!! It be so much better if the follow the novel and had ZSC read out the entire actual story of their past life then this altered "biography" Shiyi wrote. It woupd make more sense and have a proper closure... Also... Where is Zhou Mushi... And the twins... Sob.

Is it? I thought the general came to Shiyi's mum and said he came to request her for help on orders from His Highness from the Western state. But i was also confused. Lol. I thought there is no way ZSC would die knowing Shiyi is trapped inside without a plan.
Just curious... In One and Only, (cuz my friend just watched and asked me), when ZSC is awaiting execution, that general whom he spare his life... Did ZSC detailed out and planned ShiYi's escape from the palace and ask the general to help? I think i was confused too. Because the general came to seek Shiyi's mum? And during the wedding, Shiyi's mum hugged her and detailed out her entire planned escape. This whole escape was already planned by ZSC? LOL.
I really think ZSC is developing slowly…Everyone noticed changed of clothing stuek to reflect his slow CHS fe?…
I wish they will not take this part out from the novel... There is a part that Shiyi talks about this in her book I think... About how after awhile.. She discover the ZSC of past n present never really change.. The "bones" and his love for the country
I think I finally could see the clear difference why we think ZSC looks hotter in the historical one (character aside). They made his face features more pronounced. Lol. I just realized they had eyeliner on him. Hahahaha. And I think his cheek or jawline is more sharp. Maybe lose weight? Anyway, it's understandable. Previous life is a general, should be fitter. Lol.

Right on. Yes. And you know why so many people complain about his character and this drama? It's because this kind of character doesn't really sell. We have been fed too much of awesome, charasmatic, romantic etc etc ML. So when u have someone like ZSC (and coming from One and Only) then yeah, there is some heat. So ppl, just chill ok. ZSC might be a snail now.. But he is a learning snail. Lol.

Excatly. People just expect ZSC to be the same like the past. How can that be? This current life, he is a professor who spends most of his time in the lab. He doesn't lead thousands of troops into war. Not to forget, the current ZSC is some kind of prodigy.. Shipped off to university at an early age. So yeah.. That doesn't do much to his social life right.

Don't we all? In the drama world, viewers gravitate towards this portrayal of ML. It always sells. If Forever and Ever is standalone, it might be hard to watch. Lol.
I just finished watching the premium and up to ep 22. I am gonna be writing a very lengthy comment which perhaps can help those who feel a little disheartened with Forever and Ever.
Now, coming from such a beautiful, poignant, sad and very successful drama One and Only. I think many of us expected MORE from Forever and Ever, which is normal. We crave that intensity, burning passion the leads have to squash in One n Only because well, they got big responsibilities. I am one of them. BUT we all forget the setup in Forever and Ever.
ML has NO clue, no memories of his past life. His current life is shaped by his CURRENT environment. I believe he grew up lonely, very much alone.. Having brains, shipped off to university at an early age, complicated family matters, no mother figure and a father that died young, not much friends?? This life, he is a professor. A very much boring, peaceful life. So, I think not excatly having the same persona as his PREVIOUS life (where he is a swoon-worthy, charamastic general/prince) is kinda understandable.
FL is different. She has her memories,that is why she seeks him out with much passion and is able to love him deeply because that is like 2 lifetime of being in love with him. Our FL grew up in a better environment than our ML. She has loving parents, good home and great sociable friends. She has also change by being sure of what she wants, puts her foot down on things as compared to her previous self. The only thing that doesn't change is her love for ML.
So, do watch Forever and Ever with this in mind. It's a different setting. Also, it's a modern drama. The costumes and settings ain't going to be so wow (expect for ZSC's grand traditional home.. LOL).
I admit i was quite disappointed with ZSC in the beginning... But after a few episodes, and especially his grand plan of getting his uncles to invest in local industries... U get the idea that deep down, his core values hasn't change much. It is also mentioned in the novel. ShiYi mentioned it too. He of the past n present life is always doing something for the people of the country and for the good of humankind.. Lol.. whether being a professor and doing research for humankind or that generous businessman who invests back into local industry
