The source material, original book is erotic genre. So actually more explicit scenes should have been expected.
But as it is an adaptation in Joseon era is quite toned down.

Maybe just adding that for me middle did not seem that slow. Probably because in my mind I always compared what watched with the book I read years ago.

Completed and the only complain I have ( comparing it with the book I read years ago) it is that it was not scandalous enough. Everyting was toned down : characters , manipulation techniques, sensual and sexual scenes etc. This was a light version compared with the source material but somehow expected. Production value was high. Acting ,I personally liked it
Still an enjoyable drama : 8/10 from me.

Still have 3 eps to watch but from my perspective plot is not messy , just compressed for 8 episodes.
Def characters are simplified. Mains were more complex and far more evil in the book

So far some parts are toned down in drama.
I watched 5 eps too and the rape did not happened or maybe will not happened at all. The majesty stuff is just a workaround to bring Cho Won back in grace and to left minister house in the drama. In the source cho won gets there by the help of left minister son ( I guess that would have take longer time)
The secondary characters have big impact in the source material as their influence changes the course of events and affects the outcome , timeline of the bet and ending of the main characters

She is not married with Cho Won. She is married with Lord Yoo . They do not have kids due to Lord Yoo's fertility problem.
