Review S Line
As a prequel it did a lousy job. The fact that it is a prequel does not justify the bad execution.
The concept and first ep were so good.
After watching this mess of a start, I one, am not interested to watch next even if is coming out soon.
The purpuse should have been to make us all interested in watching a season 2 not run away as fast as we can πŸ˜…

Ahn Joo Young Where were you going with this kdrama darling? I’m still trying to understand what’s going on.…
Do not even bother. The drama was not made to have logical answers.

If first 2 eps Masato got the interesting βœ…οΈ from my side, ep 3 was a slap in my face.
The way he got tricked time after time showed he is actually an obsessed rookie πŸ˜… and not the experienced police officer I thought he is.
I do like they sold me a perspective only to completly ruin it next episode 🀣
Yasuda Ken was great this episode though. I got all the creeps and vibes from his grimaces as Togashi.
The way they somehow try to show a multiple personality disorder makes me believe it will be nothing like that πŸ˜ƒ ( do not spoil me )

Now going to watch Beyond Evil till it reaches same part of the story and then compare.

Ep 3 plot twist was crazy
Actually it wasn't. It was just the twist that should bring back the logic where it should have been from start. As long as the S line does not dissapear till the person dies the connection can be from previos relations, not always happening that moment ,and not always means cheating in the way one thinks.

Ep 3 - The glasses turning up in random places firstly the seon ha's locker and now the teachers desk it makes…
It still does not make sense. I saw that but from the scene , how he fell, where he hit his head , how she took him etc it could not end in a deadly injury. But a lot of things do not make sense in this series and is better enjoyed if you shut your brain off ;) as I said not question and just take the things how they present them to you...

The premise is interesting but the execution is so dumb πŸ˜† as we could see on ep 3 and 4.
We are supposed not to question anything for logic and just take the things how they present it 🀑

It's a mystery to me why this drama is so highly rated and popular compared to the earlier Light On series dramas…
I do agree with you in some degree. I also think is a matter of taste and how many similar dramas you have seen from different countries.
I've watched the majority in this list and my favorites were The Bad kids, The Long Season, Lost in the shadows and Escape from trilateral slopes. The long season had the perfect ending in my books while for many not the same πŸ˜…
A life for a life and Interlaced scenes were a bit bellow this one for me. The build up of connections was better done here from my perspective.
I have yet to watch Tender light , looking fw to it , is in my ptw.
Currently started The Kockout.

I only started this TV series because the websites I usually use kept shoving the poster in my face, for weeks.…
While I liked the end conclusion I felt the ending was rushed. Many stories were closed pretty abrupt.

I actually started the J version but people kept telling me the original is great so I ended watching both in paralel.

First of all these are impressions based on watching both dramas in paralel. Have not read the synopsis prior, nada , entered blind so basically watching same story told by two dif production teams. I watched first the 2 episodes available of Kaibutsu then Beyond Evil till reaching the same plot point. Surprisingly still end of ep 2.

What I liked better in Japanese version :
πŸ‘ the fact that both leads start directly heads on from same level. In K version I had the feeling ( based on 2 eps) Dong Shik is much smarter, much cooler, much adaptable, much creepy, much complex, much everything compared with Han Joo Won.
In J version both main leads give same equal levels vibes.
πŸ‘ the police. Based on the introductions J team looks like a capable team that once presumably made a mistake. In Beyond Evil the police looks like the typical K drama dumb police where mistakes seem daily job.
πŸ‘ the first meeting between the leads case. I preferred the simple burglar shop case versus the ajumma noisy gang fighting for pennies and nonsense. I do understand is normal for K dramas to show their typical ajummas but for my personal taste I felt better not wasting 10 min on their quarrels in the remake.
πŸ‘ the death of Dong Shik's father. In BE he dies frozen in snow. In J version he dies from a heart attack due to shock and desperation. I found it more realistic in the J version.
πŸ‘ The relation between Togashi and Mio ( aka Dong Shik and Min Jung ) - J version had additional scenes with them ,explaining better their relation dynamic in 2 episodes.
Overall I had no problem with pacing or characters introductions in the J version , but I am also a C drama watcher. This was nothing compared to first episode of The Knockout :) .If you are not used with tones of characters or different timelines from start of a show it might be troublesome.

What I liked better in Beyond Evil :
πŸ‘ we seen more interactions of Dong Shik with dif towns people ,like the scene on bridge while raining or with the ajumma at the restaurant. You could grasp more on his character both as good and creepy or possible evil.
πŸ‘ the cafeteria scene from 20 years ago. The fight between him and the girl that died was better projected in the K drama. It gave you the feeling he really could be the nr 1 suspect.
Honestly this could be also a weak point lol, need to watch more. Overall J drama gave us less hints on his character. It could help on the mystery or not :)
πŸ‘ more interactions in 2 episodes between the two main leads. I felt that was necessary in the K version so we can see the leads dynamic evolving and have them on same scale.
I did not felt this a need in the J version because for me this was the main difference between the original and the remake. The character of Han Joo Won respective Masato starts from diferent points/ premises in the dramas. Masato for me is very strong and capable from start while HJW seems he needs to adapt first.

πŸ‘I did not felt the pace of BE was slow, there were some secenes like the police team talking 5 minutes were to put the investigation tent and how muddy the field is. As I said that worked for K version of police while it would have made no sense for the J one.

Actors wise I like better so far, Shin Ha Kyun as DS and Mizukami Koshi as Masato πŸ˜†

Overall I am sat and looking fw to next episodes. Kinda like this experiment of watching both versions. It just adds diferent perspectives to same character.
