Yes emperor is the big baddie and imposter. He was the general Yan who got mistaken as the crown prince who then became the emperor. That’s why he gave himself the Lord Yi title, adopted his real son Yan Li. I bet his wife Madame Fu recognized him. That’s why she’s praying all day to absolve his son. And she asked Yan Chi not to forget his brotherhood with Yan Li.

I think emperor tried to asassinate Lord Rui and Yan Chi because they are the next in line for the throne, real royal bloodline. They could find out the truth.

I think Consort Ji figured out he’s imposter, so she’s eliminated and her son probably saw him do it. Shen Yi probably also figured it out by investigating and talking to Prince Jin. So they were also eliminated

So novel plot mixed with some of my theory. 🤗
