If they followed the novel, it would have done a better job at explaining her change. Bc in the book, YunShen had a surgrey where he had a high chance of duying on the surgery table. Meanwhile, Jiang ShuNing was outside having the worst time a mother can have. So YunShen surviving, she decided to be content with life and accept YunShen's wish bc she finally realize her son probably doesn't have long to live and might die in his next surgrey.
