This being the most popular 2023 kdrama on MDL shows the state of Kdramas and taste of KDRAMA watchers...
While airing, many old school kdrama fans who now prefer to watch C and BL dramas started watching KTL because it reminded them of why they used to like kdramas.
Also SK Gallup poll indicated that KTL viewers were the most equally diverse audience they have ever encountered. From teen to elderly; male/female and socio economic standing.
I saw this list a day after it came out and it was about a quarter of what it is now. People have been adding to it. Just saying since I've seen many comments below.
The WORD OF MOUTH LOVE for KTL is insane. The show ended 3 weeks ago and its still Top10 on Flixpatrol (Aug26). This is even with the changes Netflix incorporated to calculate the list a couple months ago making it harder for longer shows to be on the list.
one thing bothering me about this, the "King The Land" waitstaff are extremely proud & elitist about their university…
This is a country where 70% of 25-34 yo have post secondary education. The writer must have had to be in similar situation since some of this was from their 17 year experience working in the service industry.
My niece informed me that her friend asked for her help to mass down rate this drama last week. It seems a group of haters didn't like that this drama 'copied' their favorite drama (how to say your new to kdramas without saying your new to kdramas).
Thank god the ratings didnt end up higher than proper multi layered dramas (mix of comedy and serious storyline)…
You are aware that people watch shows through different means these days. King the Land was the most OTT and DVR show in SK since it started airing. Even when they list what show was the top viewed on OTT platforms, they note that the recent change on Netflix calculations prevent KTL to be #1 even though more people watched it.
Various polls like Gallup indicate the extreme popularity of the show has to do with the simplicity of romance. People missed the dramas from before. It has attracted viewers from teens to the elderly in such a way that they have never seen before in these polls. Which means that the shows you indicate didn't have the same impact and gather the attention of a broad range of viewers like KTL.
For some reason I'm excited that King The Land will finally be available in India and Latin America. The numbers without full distribution have been impressive.
I'm a CDrama Lover, and I am an Arabic person also, I felt so angry about what happend, and who said it is fictional…
There were a lot of non-Arabs who supported your protest - until protesters started to threaten physical harm to the actors and Koreans in Arab nations.
FYI- Your last argument is incorrect. For example, most often when you see an American in C, K, or J drama they are not American. I don't expect American actors to live in all over the world waiting for a role. Actors in general will get paid less than the airfare/hotel to travel to another country.
I don't see much Arabic shows but I do see a lot of Turkish shows (I know they are not the same just making an example). Rarely have I seen an American actually play and American and the stereotypes are awful. It is my choice to continue watching.

10 watch - 1 dislike = underrated
