I respect that you feel differently, of course , because i should not have used "whole point", but rather" frequent point". While we can't reduce BLs to this, as there's a whole spectrum of representing gay relationships , I'd say it's generally an accepted BL trope that every character who as an important part in a show can be gay . It won't surprise anyone when used, like it is in Kinnporsche . Thai Bls in particular , as opposed to Japanese, are not always supposed to be a fully realistic illustration of gay romance.
OK: The refusal of the top in the sex scene to NOT wear a condom even though his adorable little bitch was begging…
To me Korn mentioning Fai to his father( in Tonkla's presence) , and Fai's dad being someone powerful and sort of close whom he calls "uncle", is an implication the relationship (whatever it is) between the two is approved by both families . The nudity scene makes it very clear what the power dynamic is between Korn and Fai (she remains fully clothed) , but does not infer they have had more than oral sex so far . Of course that sexual practice can still be a health risk for everyone involved, hence the condom. But we don't have quite enough elements to say that Tonkla is not aware or not okay with that state of things , since he does regularly get money from Korn. The emotional side of their affair/love story is quite a different matter, which we have just been given two rather stridently different illustrations in episodes 1 and 2. I admit Korn comes out as rather a s***** person after this, but not necessarily as a cheat . That's only my own take, of course.
I felt quite differently from some people who said the episode was messy and who did not like the nc scene, I…
A first symbol for this is the boxing scene at the hospital . We very much feel that Tyme's fury is not directed at sand bag - he doesn't hold back, and it should shake us as well, because so far we had not been shown this hidden side of him. Second symbol or metaphor is the skate board scene : it represents the viewer's point of view and experience, which is why to me it is more meaningful than just an akward way to introduce the main leads "getting-to-know-each-other" scene, : it shows us the bumps, twists and turns we are to expect , and implies the story will advance in leaps and bounds even though Tyme and Great are sitting very still ( one all in black, the other in white, as reverse symetry would) . A third image used is the lighthouse . Traditionally they were used to warn lost ships of an incoming danger, they are the light in the fog, the beacon you look for when you don't know where you are or where you are going (so being lost, fog, confusion, guidance, danger of shipwreck, hope) . But they can also be associated with solitary confinement. Its keeper is someone who must bear being locked in solitude for months, and resist storms, loneliness, silence and depression . They are a symbol both for lonelines and resilience. Then there is of course the rock. It is not a random choice for a murder weapon. It's primitive, stoning speaks of instictive murder pulses, it is messy and dirty unlike a gun (and is a frequent biblical illustration for punishment ) . And boy did that rock rock me . I could go on and on about this episode, I think it was a very clever one...
I felt quite differently from some people who said the episode was messy and who did not like the nc scene, I must say, starting with nudity . It very much serves a purpose here : it is introduced for comparison with the scene in episode 1 . The dynamic of power drastically shifts when compared with episode 1, as far as going into reverse ; so we are made aware that Korn is really in binds and powerless as regards the sexual/financial/ psychological aspects of his relationship with Faiz . He was active in Ep 1 and his lovers 'hands, well, opened that intimate part of him . Whereas with Faiz although he is ostensibly the active one and the one who moves towards her , he looks vulnerable, submissive and stiff/static . She stays fully clothed, very much imprisons him between her legs but not as Tonkla did, he is brought to his knees and flops in front of her in a humiliating way . I really believe that a series like 4 Minutes will use symetry or reverse symetry both with visuals and with the construction and editing of scenes . I also feel the messy, choppy feeling of episode 2 is an application of this reverse symetry purpose . Episode 1 lured us in with slow sequences in lifts and corridors. It gave us a beautiful seemingly romantic love scene ( but there were already signs of the two partners hiding things from, or using each other) . We had Korn glide on a boat like it was Death in Venice, we had fun with Doctor Den a loving scene between Doctor Tyme and his grandma, and an eerie dreamy-like last scene by the river . Episode 2 on the other hand is meant to confuse us, baffle, shock, send us on false leads, rocks us .
OK: The refusal of the top in the sex scene to NOT wear a condom even though his adorable little bitch was begging…
I think Tonkla knows fully well because Korn is his sugar daddy (Korn mention the money he gives him ) , and not a proper partner . In a traditional family like Korn's, not being fianced to a woman is out of the question for the official heir.
Near-total mea culpa: After watching the rest of episode 1 and all of 2, I have done an almost complete 180 turn…
The whole point of BL series is the "every man within a 5-mile radius is gay" aspect. Some of us are weary of the exact same one with mainstream series in which no one is ever bi or queer . It doesn't bother me one bit if they are all gay . After all, no-one complains that all the main characters in a series are too good-looking , which is hardly more realistic .
I love your comment please comment more i wanna know what you think!! Xo
thank you, I will . Clearly the series is going to be more violent than I expected , with a revenge theme . I have strong feelings and a few theories, but I am wholly prepared to be wrong about them .
I'm not sure how much I can tell here without giving too many spoilers , so I'll just say we are given SO MANY clues already , especially after a second watch . I'm with other viewers about the music choices ( but it is often a complaint I have with Asian series), not always fond of them . But all the rest, I loved.
To start with, it's a Sammon story and a BOC show : assumptions are risky ,do not trust what you see, let alone what you don't see, because -of course- you were not shown it !
Paying attention to what characters reveal of their social status (Title, when speaking to Great or to Dome ) or of someone else's life (the nurse, about Dr Tyme) always give precious hints for later . There must be a reason why the suicidal patient in room 4 tells us about the person she lost, why and HOW (it is implied) that person did what they did before dying . It's obvious to me how it is related to the main story . It is also quite obvious why it is so easy for Dr Tyme to remember , not a patient name, but the name he has a quick glimpse of in a patient's room ( I suppose we may miss that as it is written in Thai) . His answer should surprise Great, but he has other " pressing" things on his mind (the thigh move - gasp ) . Dr Tyme could have easily lied and said the name was written in his patient file, so why did he not ? Was he testing Great's reaction ? I still have many questions, but things are getting clearer and clearer . As for Korn's character, there 's no actual cheating going on as all parties involved are aware of each other, and because of the financial and monetary aspects of the relationships . An interesting recurrent theme in the show is the power dynamics, between lovers / family members/ classmates etc. So episode 2 is far less centered on the supernatural trope, and focuses a lot on the crime theme instead . Totally different, and already darker, vibes . I'm here for them , they set a sharp contrast with the budding love story in surface , like the contrasting colours of the main characters (fully intentional) in the skate park scene . The thoughts in Great 's head as he lies in bed, shown as stills from a movie , with that clicking sound, genius cinematography . Even what may seem akward, like the introductory few seconds of the skate park scene, to me suggest the bumps, twists and turns of the story ( yes, we rae being taken for a ride after all ) . And finally, I love the symbolic visuals , like the lighthouse (it's a dual symbol) at night. Because what are lighthouses for ?
I was getting goosebumps while watching this series. I don't know how to explain. It makes me feel itchy. Maybe…
it's the feeling that we don't know where it is taking us; Not many series do that, usually the viewer feels kind of safe . The scenes here are realistic, so we are on alert, ancestral fears waking up.
I salute you, O you two beautiful uncredited creatures of the cast , which I hope will remain recurrent : Akira the Maine Coon, , and Mister Peach, Korn's Main Asset
