I gave this 7.5/10. I have been desperately waiting for this one, the trailer portrayed a series focused on the Seoul fashion industry that looked to be high energy with a pace to match. While most of the expectations are met, it was a surprise at how slow the pacing was. Often it lacked the gusto I kind of expected. There is plenty of chemistry amongst the leads, and I loved the 4 friends, who each hold a career within the fashion world. I watched with my daughter who is training as a designer, and we both had hoped for a lot more “something” (she quit this after 4 episodes). Perhaps it was too long, could have made for a fabulous movie length??? Not sure. I’m not certain there was a point to the 2ML and that whole relationship other than really a filler or perhaps to get you to feel some angst that ML might miss his chance, but the writers failed here in giving us any reason to care. Overall, I enjoyed most of it. I wouldn’t rewatch, its not comparable to the energy of Business Proposal, and I had hoped it would have been right up there. I’m not sure it would be anywhere high up in a list to recommend it either, as someone else mentioned in the comments, unless they had some kind of vague interest in the fashion industry.
While I agree that final episode was a major shock to the system after the incredibly clever first 15 episodes AND I believe the ending of the novel is the direction this show should have taken, I can’t quite bring myself to allow the odd way they took this to discredit the genius acting, script and OST that made Reborn Rich what it was. I’ll still give it a 10/10 because all of those elements were there right through to the very end.
My only issue, the way they tied that up was far too rushed. The pacing of ep 16 was more hurried than the previous 15. This show needed at least one more (or 2) to ensure the direction they took it, felt believable and solid.
Take this for what it is, a melodramatic older Tawainese romance that is trope heavy. It’ll give you a good laugh (when it probably isn’t intended to be funny) and an eye roll or two. But this incredibly “70s looking styling, and over promoted kiwi fruit” TV series is watchable and has a satisfying ending. If there was ever a strong argument for 2L to win the girl it is this one.
Subtitles are a mess on Viki. I appreciate that people volunteer to do this, so don’t jump on me. The problem is Viki needs more editors to fix the English so it flows properly. Majority of thr subs are broken English, or phrased wrong so the meaning is misunderstood. This is a massive disservice when this is such a huge part of a viewers enjoyment of a foreign show. I wish Viki would at least employ some qualified editors to fix/review the sub work.
please spoil me- when they will get together? on which episode they break up and when they get back together?
I can’t remember when they get together but if you don’t mind spoilers they are together then separate then together again later, but that should be obvious from the beginning episode. The massive flashback to college yrs (pre prison) ends in ep 23. It goes back to his release. Expect a heavy and serious and long amount of shoe before they sort their relationship out finally.
im on episode 6 rn, the fml's best friend is so annoying
bear with it. I was so irritated with this show for a long time. The friend doesn’t really improve theres little character growth for her, but then its not really necessary as she’s not there to carry the show. But I hear ya!
I’m not sure I agree thats its well written, there is some questionable dialogue/moments in this show that I felt were a writing fail, but it’s tolerable because the rest of the show was on point.
Holy mo, Yook Sung Jae can pull off those suits!! But oh boy was this show all over the place! Gave me The King vibes with the fantasy elements, esp with the bad guy Dad, evil villian on a par with the Uncle in TKME. Also can we call out the obsession with CLENCHED FISTS with this director. Why do we everytime need a close up of a clenched fist to show someone is frustrated or angry. Gets old fast. Got a bit draggy about half way thru and too many spoons being dished out by magic granny… most the actors played their parts well, though Junhee needed to show about more expression- she comes across a bit emotionless the entire way through. Would I watch again, probably not, but I would probably suggest people try it at least.
Solid historical drama, with a huge cast, and expertly executed.
If there’s anything you can take away from these shows, is generally the same plot points and evil villians that are constantly seeking power is the same. There is however a uniqueness to this show that we don’t always get, and it revolved around the Queen and her sons. I did hope for a little more bonding development there with the King, but hey he has a billion concubines so there was zero expectation he had some kind of life long adoration with one woman. Each of the grand princes were great, and I loved the bond and loyalty they shared, obviously raised that way by their mother. The relationship between the Crown Prince & Princess is adorable and I loved her character. We need more of that in these historicals!
The queen herself plays her character well, full of grit and determination to protect at whatever cost her family, including those princes not borne by her. That was touching and sweet.
The Grand Heir is a little cutie and steals all the scenes he is in.
Great show overall, LJS played the role well, absolutely fantastic- the FL fell a little flat, understandably lacking in emotion as a high schooler you could get away with it as she is portraying someone who is young and inexperienced at life, but by the time she’s supposedly 28 it would have been nice to see a little more emotional development. There was very little in the way of expression or feeling coming from her. The time slip plot was fun, and it ended well, which is nice. Nice filler kind of show.
When you lose your auduience attachment to your leads its over. Stayed for 1 side couple development I think we were all routing for (by the comments on Viki) and enjoyed one other (the married friends).
What an odd little show. I think I prefer Soundtrack #1, that 1 yr time jump was annoying. A couple of months would have been the max you could reasonably tolerate someone playing with your feelings like that. I hate it when they do unnecessary jumps like that in some dramas. Some make sense, this, did not. She deserves to have lost him at the end, and I think I might have liked it better if she had. More realistic. He forgave too fast for a year gap, and the ending was too sudden and didn’t address her dumb behavior. Glad it was over when it was I guess.
A lot disappointed in this movie, it had a lot of potential but it just seemed to be a bland storyline where everyone is drunk most of the time, and no character development until the final few minutes, and even that is a stretch. It could have been a good one I think with a stellar script. Its one plus is it was cast well. Great choices and chemistry was clear between MLs. Shame they had nothing to work with except drunk behavior.
Not the best cdrama out there by a LONG shot. Peeps need to watch a few more shows (try Falling into You, Once we got married to name a few). This show starts out with some awful acting (holding poses unrealistically too long) and yes that thing that chinese dramas hold the gold medal for: babyish childlike FL casting that just grinds like nails on a chalkboard. It’s not cute on grown women and weirdly it always seems to be just the FL and annoying SFL they do this with. Not the other women in the show who manage to talk AND dress like grown women. Not 10 year olds. Please stop your fetish with this China, it ruins your dramas. The little nephew is fun and everyone’s best sidekick. Thank goodness he can see what everyone but the leads can see, and helps move the draggy plot along. Not quite sure how the dessert shop can employ 5 people all the time, and somehow ML seems to be supported quite well financially from selling 4/5 cakes to a handful of customers each day- with overheads that must be at a premium for his oceanfront property. I could look over that for the idol group he employs, they make for some nice viewing. SFL has toxic behaviors that yet again cdramas portray as ok and forgivable and sends the message that you’ll get the guy when you act like she does. Sad. SML is s non-event, but makes a change, tho I never knew how he knew about the love letter confession he DIDN’T get in the beginning. The show lacks chemistry between the leads, not quite sure why - ML certainly carries the kissing scenes. Perhaps its how it starts, her childish mannerisms or wardrobe - but a little more mature woman probably would have made this work. Casting fail most likely. Best thing about this show - the songs are on point- apart from the opening credits which was meh.
Ok overall, will pass the time but won’t watch again.

Such a disappointment and writers disaster.
