I haven't done a proper review in so long. Couldn't get myself to finish a lot of series this year , but this one got me hooked !!! I am glad i finished it before coming here to see the rating because let me tell you THIS IS A MASTERPIECE (BUT WITH SOME GLARING FLAWS) the female lead is a complete chess player , she is always wise and 10 times ahead of her enemies ..despite her being always ahead it happens that some things are out of her control or some variable changes the plan which made to an interesting and tense watching! It all begins with the fl being betrayed by lover turned emperor who uses her then kills her along with her dad.. After achieving his goal of securing and stabilizing his regency. She then goes back in time with revenge in mind and tho goes a long journey of mental and physical battles. I loved the chemistry between the FL and ml ... The way she looked at him as if she truly desired him and their mutual and unconditional trust in each other .. My only qualms with the pair is the skinship scenes who were far too tame (i wonder if its because of censorship) . like you would have a very intense staring in the eyes scene then you would have a peck or a proper kiss with a zoom out . Also the fl in my opinion has chemistry with all three of the men mr.deng , mr xie and our beautiful ml yanlai so i would like to see her with any of the other actors in another drama too. so if you are here expecting a full on romance .. You might get disappointed this is a revenge story with some romance (more than "the double" tho) what i mean is its there but it not the sole focus. Everything about this drama is a 10 but there was one or two episode in the middle where i almost dropped the drama. there were scenes where the leads couldn't quite sell an emotional or angry scene instead the fl looked like a spoiled brat ..thankfully tho once you get through these couple of episodes the drama picks up the good stuff and finishes it with a bang . a very solid 9 and i would absolutely rewatch ! Seeing this drama at 7.8 is again honestly such a joke ..no wonder i cant take this site seriously . like seriously ?!?! This is at the very least a 8.5 let alone 7.8 . anyway i am glad i picked it up because the red of the poster reminded me of my all time favorite Chinese drama "the double"
