I've watched this twice and I'm still not quite sure I understand Akafuji's reasoning in ep3 for not explaining the misunderstanding about dating Miss Tendo. When Hajime confronts him about it and asks him straight out if he's dating Miss Tendo, Akafuji doesn't say no or explain that those photos were taken during the break, he just says he'll make sure it's taken care of, and then think, "I want to tell him it's a misunderstanding. But that would have been an excuse." An excuse for what?

I mean, I get that it's for the plot and if he just explained the real circumstances it would all be too easy 😅, but I feel like I'm missing something.
