It was a mediocre movie that started very well and then got overly complicated. But no doubt Kim Da Mi was incredible.

No dramas. This was only for movie roles.

Who? Which actress did better in a Korean movie this year? I realize its a very hard question simply because there were so few good films with good roles for women in them. Pretty Crazy was a mediocre film, but Yoona was one of the best parts.

Then who should have won? Korean cinema has a real scarcity of good leading roles for women. I might have given it to Kim Da Mi for The Great Flood as her acting was incredible even as the movie went off the rails. But I doubt it was eligable, nor probably is Lee Re, who was very good in It's Okay, a 2023 movie that only got a wide theatre release this year. Another alternative would be Won Jin A for Secret: Untold Melody. But frankly Yoona was probably at least equally deserving.

Well, since both of those shows put me to sleep with their dragged out plots and superficially writen characters (particularly the FL in Cha Cha Cha and both leads in Samdalri), I can probably safely skip this one.,

This turned out to be an excellent series, due in large measure to good writting that slowly reveals the background and motivation of the characters and excellent performances from Kim Go Eun and Jeon Do Yeon. Easily one of my Top-3 kdramas of the year (along with When Life Gives You Tangerines and Our Unwritten Seoul).

l'm of two minds on this. Vigilante revenge violence can get way out of hand and I don't like the idea of there being no concequences, even when it could be argued that it was justified. At the same time, there should also be some leniency. The outcome for the characters in As You Stood By seemed very satisfactory in this sense.

In any case, The Price of Confession turned out to be an excellent series overall, even if there are some quibbles about the outcome for Go Eun's character. Easily one of my Top-3 of the year (along with When Life Gives You Tangerines and Our Unwritten Seoul, with As You Stood By not far behind those 3.).

This sounds like a show I've seen countless times before in multiple different languages. The ambitious male lawyer brought down by circumstances and forced to do good deeds, while working with the dedicated socially concious female lawyer? We even have Jung Kyung Ho playing a lawyer yet again, right after having just done so in the mediocre Oh My Ghost Clients. I doubt I'll be watching unless the reviews are exceptionally good.

Because most girls (and boys) her age (early to mid-teens?) would have not had the guts to continue on after barely surviving that first battle and realizing how outclassed they were. But Futaba never weakens in her determination to both continue the quest but also to improve her fighting skills to the extent she can. The girl has a very can-do attitude that I find admirable.

She's physically weak (to her great furstration), but not emotionally or mentally weak. She certainly shows plenty of determination and perserverance.

What was wrong with Futaba? I really liked her. She added an additional interesting dynamic.

Simply the best action show I've watched this year. I know that MDL viewers tend to grossly undervalue Japanese shows, but an 8.2 rating is patently ridiculous. But what more can you expect from a site where any half-assed completely unoriginal Chinese wuxia with ridiculous fake looking martial arts fight scenes and cheesy dialogue gets much higher votes than an action work of art like this one?

I hope this comes to a theatre near me. It's getting excellent reviews from both critics and audiences.

Disney+ does show me the Top 10 in my country and they also show the new releases, all pretty much the same way Neflix does. It's true that the Disney+ Top 10 is full of kids shows and movies because they are more watched than the more serious Hulu fare ( including most k-dramas). The other main difference is that Netflix also regularly sends me emails promiting upcoming shows, which Disney+/Hulu rarerly do.

No female characters at all? In my experience, sageuks without female characters tend to be very one-dimensional.

I agree that one problem with many c-dramas is too much filler. And Li Xian is probably my favorite Chinese actor. I haven't yet seen Go Go Squid (its on my list), but those other 3 shows are among those exceptions I mentioned (c-dramas that fully deserve their ratings on MDL). Other c-dramas that fall into that category for me include Reset, The Long Ballad, Go Ahead, The First Frost, and Twelve Letters.

I think MDL has gotten better about promoting C-dramas, which in my opinion are often actually somewhat overrated on this site. They still pay very little attention to J-Dramas, which are extemely underrated on this site. Based strictly on my own personal tastes, I find that I often prefer a J-Drama rated 8.0 here to most C-Dramas rated 8.5 or above. Though there are exceptions of course (of which Hidden Love is one).

Disney+ is quite expensive without ads, but its worth it to me because I get it in a package with Hulu and all the ESPN channels. I actually almost never watch anything on Disney+ itself (I think the last show was Andor), but I'm regularly watching kdramas on Hulu and sports on ESPN - probably as many or more hours weekly than I watch on Netflix.

K-dramas are also very popular in much of Latin America (as are Japanese dramas to slightly lesser extent). Its rare that there isn't at least one kdrama or jdrama on Netflix's Top 10 in many countries. They also heavily promote them to their subscribers in the region. I think this is one of the reasons Disney has gotten much better over the past year or so about making its kdramas available in Latin America.
