When two lonely men meet and find the simplest yet most ideal form of happiness

Offering us not just romance but also valuable life lessons. The show can be categorized as either a light-hearted show or a pierce realization of living and surviving as an adult. The key points taken in the story are realistically great as most employed individuals experienced difficulties in their work-life balance.

The charm of the drama lies in the depth and character build-up of the main couple. Both roles have their own story to tell, have something needed to explore within themselves, and sadly have to experience the grief of losing the essence of joy in their life. Not until they reunited one day and started to explore the wonders of their existence by being each others’ comfort and support.

“Being involved with people is heavy.” The grief between these lines is too pitiful. Their introverted and nonchalant personalities grow into them as a protective measure from the expectations that may lead to disappointments in life. I love the angst and feeling of being emotionally attached to them.

They lived with my expectations and even managed to provide me with adequate production quality, appealing visuals, and consistency in terms of the story's progress. All of these elements in addition to having Nomura Kota and Kaneko Shunya as Kai and Hirokuni, created a perfect blend of bringing a well-defined Japanese BL that is distinctive from the rest.

Title The Sign Spoiler
Connecting two different timelines into a well-blended fantasy-action-romance BL

A palatable combination of history and modern set-up merging a few distinct genres into one supernatural series. At first, it never crossed my mind that it would be a fantasy genre as I was so hooked up with the vigorous appearances of the characters during their training days. It always showered with manliness and well-packed action scenes that I remembered getting excited for Yai’s role. This man always emits hot boyfriend vibes with his muscles screaming throughout his body.

Phaya and Tharn are interesting MCs yet, I get tired of watching their intimate scenes that have little to no connection with the storyline and and are just there for the sake of feeding the fandom. On the other hand, Khem and Thongthai’s love-making scene was a real comedy with an essence part to their love story.

I would also like to congratulate the creative and production crew for a realistic outcome of the celestial being such as the Naga the Dragon and the Mighty Birds featured as the MCs' past appearances. I also love the idea that Phaya dreamed about the past while Tharn can oversee the future by implicating his so-called ‘signs.’ It was a clever approach to the depth of their roles and allowed it to be the eye-opener in their relationship from the past.

The casting was all good from the main and supporting roles to even the guests from the show. They also have several side stories that are entertaining and serve as the stepping stone in revealing the main antagonist from the story, which turned out to be the political leader himself and not the divine being as the couple’s love interest.

Nicely done and executed but have more room for growth. I missed the charm and excitement from the first half after watching the last few episodes. I am demanding more unique progress of the story but the show itself keeps giving me sex scenes and prolonging the unnecessary drama from the love triangle. Nevertheless, despite its flaws, The Sign is a good BL with the show being memorable all because of its rarity in having the concept of supernatural creatures living in the modern era.

Title Ready, Set, Love Spoiler
Thailand is now bringing us into dystopian

Clever, imaginative, well-written, and well-executed. Don’t get swayed by its cheesy title since the show has a deeper story to tackle about. I am a big fan of the concept of dystopia; showcasing injustice in a society and bringing a creative set-up on the way people live, was truly a chef’s kiss. Thankfully, the show succeeded in offering this to us. The story's foundation of having an uneven ratio of two genders where the chance of giving birth to a male child is too low was phenomenal.

They also managed to give depth behind the characteristics of everyone from the show with reasonable development throughout the end. The majority of the cast is likable, the same with their cute and fun little games with budgeted props that make it more lively.

When I finished its pilot episode, a question came to my mind, “If all existing gentlemen are living in a small luxury city, what would happen if one or two of them fell in love? Not to a woman but to a man since they aren’t that pretty exposed to the women outside their living environment.” Fortunately, my BL heart was satisfied enough with Pepper’s story. A man from The Farm fell in love with another man who is living in a hidden place called City Ground.

This is certainly a mini-dystopian series that is rarely produced by the entertainment industry in Thailand. Although I felt that the progression of the story lacks in terms of expansion and solving cases, it is still understandable since they only have eight total episodes to fit everything. The open-ended conclusion was great since it allowed people to be hyped for a possible sequel. Yet, I honestly think that the four-year time skipped before the ending credit was unnecessary and they should just stick with the cliff-hanging part of what will happen to them after freeing from the government. I want to see more scenes of how they will fight back the injustice and bring peace and prosperity to the people.

There is only one time from the show that I feel extremely frustrated. It is when on EP02, they labeled Almond as the best cooker among the gentlemen. Yet, he happened to be the clueless one when it came to finding the right ingredients for Thai dishes and desserts. That was just naive of the production that they let this idea end up being aired for the sake of romance between the second lead. Despite some of its flaws, the overall impact of the show was cool and entertaining. Blue Pongtiwat introduced me to this series and I am grateful for that. I’ve been following him on his Instagram for a long time but this is the first time watching him in a drama. He does prove to me that his undying charm is there for a reason. He is indeed a good actor, the combination of his appeal and acting was well-balanced.

On Let’s Talk about Chu Feb 17, 2024
Title Let’s Talk about Chu Spoiler
A sex-oriented show that is deep yet light at the same time

The BL element brought me to this show and it was fun. I can always see the difference when it comes to adult series that were produced by Asians compared to the films from the West. As an Asian myself, I am connected with how they tackled stereotypes and the firm grasp of the traditional values of the majority, especially the old ones. Which, the drama presented it by having the featured family members have their own stories that rotate about love and desires.

I have been a big fan of Kai Ko since his debut movie role in ‘You Are the Apple of My Eye’ and he hasn’t lost his charm. His still courageous to take roles that allowed him to be fully naked in front of the camera. The friends-with-benefits turned lovers couple are just okay. Storywise, I’ve seen a lot of similar flow and plot of story from this couple. I was not entertained or felt excited when they began dating for real. I am also disappointed that they easily skipped the trauma of the youngest daughter who at a young age discovered that his father is an animal who left her in the car just to eat girls in a hostess club. I also hated her mother for lying and defending his lewd husband.

JC Lin once again slays! He fit his role in this show and I love that I get to see another cool story of a homosexual character. The BL couple was the ‘icing on the cake’ in this drama. It was unexpectedly cute and entertaining. The ending of their love story was pleasing. I love the fact that the gangster boss decided to surrender himself and improve to be a better version of himself the moment that he met the one. Their romance may be short but it was the most memorable one among the multiple couples in the story.

Jumping to the oldest sibling who emphasizes the importance of communication in a relationship. First, I applaud them for clearly and loudly speaking that it is okay not to bear a child of their own. The pressure of the parents is so real for most Asians and I liked that several individuals right now from different age gaps are taking this topic seriously. In the modern world, raising a child is so hard that varieties of traumas and difficulties await them. Each of us has our reasons and decisions about whether to have a child or not, and no one has the right to put us in the spotlight of self-doubt and tension. Another thing that I find cool about this couple is how they also discuss the significance of attending sessions for married couples.

This is a good show for a light yet educational rom-com in this modern period. The only thing I felt lacking was the absence of prolonging the specific topic and resolving it first before jumping to the next plot to be discussed. Nevertheless, the production was good enough to deliver a family story that is very open and transparent about what matters in a healthy relationship.

On Secret Crush on You Feb 13, 2024
Title Secret Crush on You Spoiler
The main couple sucks

It wasn’t enjoyable all thanks to the obnoxious love story of Toh and Nuea; an obsessed stalker and an uncharismatic campus heartthrob. I swear, I haven’t felt any lingering emotions or sensations in any of their scenes. I was annoyed by them having over-executed sex scenes for a drama that has the high school concept of sweet and puppy-type love. They are the sole reason why the show is not loveable at all.

Nevertheless, the side couple and side characters save the show and have stories that are more fun than the main ones. Sky and Jao's romance was bearable; they started slow yet cute but also ended up having unforgettable scenes as well. My favorite screentime of them was when Sky wasn’t leaving and driving his way back home when the light of Jao’s room was still on. I just loved the simple yet meaningful touch of worry and care. Daisy, Som, and Intouch also add sweetness to the show. I adored their chemistry with each other and were able to make me laugh from time to time.

I know from my heart that I can fully enjoy this show without the existence of the main couple, or just for them being a side character only. It gives me creeps and secondhand embarrassment from all the things that Toh did before they became an official couple with Nuea. It is also obvious that the intimate scenes from this couple are unnecessary and I didn’t feel any spice at all.

In Kim Yoo Jung, I trust!

Another win for Kim Yoo Yung’s filmography! Ain’t the best but still performs pretty well. Her influence and her previous projects captured my interest in adding the show to my list. She always delivers her characters with her utmost acting performances. Indeed, one of the most versatile actresses in the entertainment field.

Story-wise, it has uniqueness but can’t help but get bored from time to time. Yet, one thing is for sure, I enjoyed the touch of comedy, especially from the supporting cast. If I have to pick the most intense and memorable scene, it has to be the ending of the third episode. I was screaming and clapping my hands from the tension when Do Do Hee realized that the death of Madam Ju was not caused by a health incident but more a case of murder in which one of the family members was the suspect. The execution was that good to keep me energetic the whole scene.

Then, many things happened, some are good yet some are just average. Jumping to the finale episode, I liked how they concluded the story of each character. A happy ending for the couple and the people around them. But I get too emotional from two characters. First is the oblivious mother who lost her son at the hands of the true evil personality of the story, her husband. She misses him so much but it is too late for her to save her son. Regret and moving forward are her only options. The second and the most wholesome finale was when Jin Ga Young saved a little girl from her abusive father. This particular scene burst me into tears knowing how she has the same past as the girl she accidentally met in the present. I love this scene.

I rarely watch Korean dramas nowadays since I felt like I would never experience the same wave of feelings from the K-dramas in the past, especially from the 2016 era of K-dramas. Yet, My Demon is one of the few dramas that I gave a shot and never regretted it. It is fun, cute, chaotic, and has a lot of emotion to offer. Song Kang’s acting also improved a lot too. I am not satisfied with the fantasy element but at least I enjoy the comedy and a little bit of romance from the show.

Title Love for Love's Sake Spoiler
A deeper understanding of love and happiness

What a fantastic way to start 2024 with a remarkable Korean BL. It’s been on my watchlist for so long and just waiting for the release day, now finally, I was able to finish the show. To be honest, I am not expecting the fantasy touch as its concept and I find it too hard to get the whole story but you just need to focus on the build-up of the characters to enjoy the drama to the fullest.

It all starts with a mission to make Cha Yeon Woo happy, as we all thought, this has to be the objective of the game but in the end, we realize that it is not. The point of the game is to give him another chance for Tae Myung Ha to acknowledge himself, love himself, to find his purpose and happiness in life. I admire the clever way of writing the script -unique and excellent.

In general, the drama wins a lot and has something great to offer to its audience. Casting a beautiful set of actors to play the roles is the typical norm we see from K-BLs, but this one is not the usual one. The actors are such great actors who can deliver and be firm with their characters. I love the genuine acting with top-notch chemistry that is a must for a romance genre. I’ve been a fan of Cha Joo Wan since his debut acting in School 2021 and have been following him on Instagram since then, but I am still amazed at how soft and pure he is and feels like he is Cha Yeo Woon in real life.

Love for Love’s Sake is the perfect title for the show. It allows viewers to understand that love in general is complicated but an important factor in life that makes us alive. This drama receives a lot of love from the community and I am happy for the warm feedback as the actors and crew behind the success of this drama work so hard to produce and promote such a masterpiece. I’m going to be honest, I don’t enjoy it to the fullest unlike with a few K-BLs but I am pretty sure that this show is part of my Top 10 K-BLs of all time. It's just that, the story may be a little confusing at the beginning but worth watching since you will fall in love with the ending.

Title Mr. Sahara & Toki-kun Spoiler
Mediocre story yet the delightful charm from the cast triumphs

A teacher and student relationship might sound questionable but this drama allowed me to put it aside and just focus on the cute and fascinating story of the characters. I feel like I enjoyed seeing the cast more than the story itself. Toki, Rise, and Shinji are not just good-looking trio but also execute their most loveable side, their personalities. Although a lot of people from the show have prejudice regarding Toki’s behavior of fighting a lot, this boy has a heart of gold too. His girly and overdramatic gestures are too funny. Special mentions on his beautiful and elegant look when he plays as Snow White. Rise on the other hand needs a lot of screen time. I am curious about what will happen to his family since the story only talks about him having a lot of part-time jobs to help his family financially. Shinji is also a kind-hearted person with a masculinity that is still intact with his innocent looks. These three heartthrobs are my favorite people from the show.

Sahara’s past may be a tragedy but I’m happy with the way they portray his character’s change game. He might not have to be the top swimming athlete to complete until he graduates, but he became a cool and genuine teacher. I think that the character introduction of his junior was unnecessary but I take it since the boy is cute too.

Overall, the drama is not that good and not that bad either, it is just average and fine. I guess this is a better rating enough for a show that has the perfect balance of its pros and cons. Nevertheless, the music in general from this show is top-tier and I liked it a lot.

Title Pit Babe Spoiler
A pit chain of romance

Babe, as the main character, is a trash. The drama has a unique flow of story with its composition of humans gaining an extraordinary ability among average individuals. This is a nice foundation of the story and I love the fantasy incorporated in it. However, it is so hard for me to enjoy the drama to the fullest all because of how hateable Babe is.

Firstly, they did extremely badly during the pilot episode, take note that the touch of fantasy is not yet revealed here. But the way that Babe treated Charlie like a slave or worse was just cruel. I like Charlie’s character but only without linking him to Babe. The main character should lift the whole show but all I just remembered about him is being addicted to sex and toying with people with a character development that isn’t enough to change my view on him.

A cast with a visually stunning appearance but sometimes they just lack charms to hook me up. Uncle was indeed the best character here and the most loveable one. Throughout the show, there’s only one time that I was amazed by a certain scene. It was on EP11 of the confrontation scene of Uncle Alan and Dean. The acting is on point which even made me put in tears. I love the build of tension from rage to worriness. This specific scene emphasizes the importance of the storyline and building the relationship of everyone included in the drama.

It’s a real pity that I haven’t enjoyed the romance of any couple featured in this. Uncle Alan and Jeff got me at first but eventually vanished after a few episodes. Nevertheless, it wasn’t as bad as compared to some of the Thai BLs I watched yet still Pit Babe is a below-average kind of BL for me. Everyone is obsessed with Babe but I don’t see any distinct features from Babe that are too good for everyone to get obsessed with his personality and always have the attitude. Sometimes, I feel like the story is so focused on executing great sex scenes but loses the more important part of the show which is decency and rationality of how and why these things happened in their story.

Title At the Moment Spoiler
Half good, half bad

In general, the drama itself is neutral in terms of overall rating. It offers a few captivating episodes that made me in tears but also has a few forgettable featured stories. Decided to watch this because of the edits I watched regarding the BL side of the story, as well as having Tseng Jing Hua as one of the many characters in the drama. To rate the drama, I must emphasize each episode with my mini-reviews. In particular order, from best to least, here is my ranking:

Best to Good EPs:

EP05 The Perfect Dodgeball Game
I’m being biased here, as a BL fan, I honestly enjoyed this episode. The story touched on the reality of the life of an ordinary homosexual person. “To fall in love with a straight man…” These few lines contain a lot of stories from the gay community. It painfully hurts you a lot. The conclusion of them being good friends and supporting each other from a distance is good enough. I, once again fall in love with Derek Chang. I first saw him playing a villain role in Oh No! Here Comes Trouble and this man is soothing with manliness and sensational appeal. What a blissful sight to see him being cast in a short gay episode.

EP02 The Night in Question
Thank you for introducing me to Terrence Lau, another cute actor to add to my long list of celebrity crushes. The charm of this episode lies in the unusual story. A single man with hearing impaired that fell in love with a hostess. Both of them have a loveable and firm character that makes their chemistry as cute and sexy as possible. A happy ending for a deserving couple.

EP08 Head of the Family
Loving the light yet meaningful storytelling of the happiness of a married couple. I always feel enthusiastic when it comes to the story that showcase different approaches to the norms of how people view one’s life and roles. The married couples being supportive of each others’ life decisions and careers was wholesome.

EP07 The Promise of Karuizawa
I never thought that the usual mistress concept could be somewhat sweet yet remain unethical. The two characters who were betrayed by their respective partners and eventually committed the same mistake were unexpectedly interesting. They fell in love but chose to distance themselves was the perfect ending for both of them. The society will never see them as a good couple because of how their story went out. If they end up together, the fault of their spouses will immediately all directed towards them alone. I can’t imagine the hate and gossip of the people around them. What a dramatic episode.

EP09 The Ghost in Your Heart
The gays are winning… and sobbing. “But why does loving someone turn us into ghosts? I’ve been wondering, if one of us is a boy, would you and I will be fine together?” Lines that spell agony and discomfort. At least, the couple continues their love story after how many years but loses the middle man’s life that huddles their romantic story.

Kay to Meh EPs:

EP06 Something Old
The only good thing about this episode is that the ex-couple did not end up together during the finale. The woman felt pressured by the man’s good intentions which took out the wrong and painful way for the woman’s life. The man is too nosy and has the undying habit of involving the people around them on most occasions, without even consulting the woman first.

EP03 The Color of You
All about lies. I understand that the man can easily reject people who are fond of him, but the whole episode revolves around lies to fulfill their desires.

EP04 From Beyond the Stars
Love the chemistry but not the concept of aliens and time travel stuff. I believed that forcing a fantasy into a reality show was unpleasant. It ruins the setting and pace of the drama.

EP01 Reality Dating Show
I hate that the pilot episode is not even close to being called a decent start to the show. It was chaotic with too much stuff happening between the many featured characters.

EP10 Based on True Events
I understand why EP01 was meh, all because of this finale that turns out to be the mother who produced the storyline of the first episode. The finale episode must need to be impactful and beyond great but this just ruins that idea. I was too bored and not emotional that the drama had ended. My baby Tseng Jing Hua deserves a better story than this one.

I was frustrated but at least I am happy with some of the episodes. Having the pandemic as the time setting is good to showcase what happened to people’s lives during this world health crisis. At the Moment is more about living your best moment in life, prioritizing your happiness more than others.
