A savory love story

They served a wholesome menu with visually appealing actors and a delightful progression of their story. I have fun watching the main characters dwell in making romance between them happen once again. The script was okay for a small film project yet the actors shined so brightly that made the story more consumable.

Jung Do Hoon was a ball of sunshine here. Having such a tall figure, an intelligent marketing mind, and a kind-hearted heart. I easily fell in love with him and his personality. Working in a workplace where it seems toxic and overworked was too pitiful. Thankfully, his boss wasn’t that bad and protected him during the conflict with their client. If I were him, I don’t know if I can manage to survive working in such an environment.

The chef on the other hand, Lee Yoon Soo, was a sweet talker in a literal and positive way. I love his gentleness and for always caring for his loved ones. He has one of the sweetest speaking voices in Korean BLs -soft and lovely. I understand how he fell in love with his hyung, Jung Do Hoon, and wanted to take good care of him every day. Because our marketing boy is someone who you can feel too happy just to see him being happy, in short, he is an adorable big boy.

The conflict of the ex-boyfriend and suitors that happened between them was shortly executed and made a segway to how Jung Do Hoon kept the food that the chef prepared for him, untouched. It is both a good and bad way of transitioning a conflict to another conflict. Good in a way that we should know the feelings of the person who prepared food and cooked for us, the care and effort are priceless. Bad way in a form that the couple should solve the third parties involved with their relationship with deep communication involved. As a viewer, I enjoyed the other party being jealous but at the end of the day, I want for a proper talk between them that somehow doesn’t happen again in the finale.

Overall, Bon Appetit was another light BL that made me so happy until the end. I love the chemistry between the couple and I hope to see more of them in their next projects with the hope that they will be paired once again.

Cute and fun, not until something bad happened

It had an intriguing yet refreshing start as a BL watcher for years. The story is not different from the rest of the BLs but there’s something unique about this show -and that is maybe the way that the visually stunning cast executed their roles perfectly despite being rookies in the industry.

I love the intimacy of the two couples; it devours their feelings into each other and lets them grow into themselves. The first-morning bed kiss with Fan Ze Rui saying “Good morning baby” was still one of my favorite kissing scenes. Then, they gave us the first bed scene on EP 07 which was unexpectedly followed by a set of devastating episodes. From EP 08 onwards, I was attacked by a series of needle pins into my heart. Why does Bai Zong Yi have to take the blame, be put into jail, and risk his life during the 4-year time skip? I hate it!

He has a bright future awaiting him, with the dream of becoming a doctor to help his family financially. At that moment, I just wished that he hadn’t met Fan Ze Rui. People inside a gang have a hard time falling in love with someone outside their circle. The violence and angst from these episodes are too much for me to handle.

For having the main couple lay low, we got the character development and bloom of romance from the second couple which was lovely. They did pretty well on serving another chemistry with their sassy and unaffectionate romantic feelings to becoming clingy and affectionate towards the end.

The essence of the drama mainly focuses on the love story of the main couple which I was hoping to see more kind of replenishment and rehealing process from all the things that happened between them and their family. Yet, I am also convinced that the production already did their very best to offer a good enough ending for the stories of the characters. I am also happy to see various stars from the previous BL romance that are having their cameo role in this drama. To be honest, I was expecting that the main cast from HIStory 4: Trapped may also have their appearance as they almost got the same kind of genre, but it didn’t happen. All of the actors in this project raised the quality and entertainment factor of the drama which brings a huge impact to the overall savority of the viewers.

Okay, he’s yours!

Cliche but still entertaining. The over-used office romance as the setup of the story kinda feels typical nowadays. Yet, the good thing about this show is that despite each character's norms and basic portrayal, the overall impression it has on me is average to beyond average. The romantic scenes are bearable but create an impact during the kissing scenes, in which, the main characters deliver intimate acting that makes you believe their characters’ perseverance in staying and growing together.

Leading the show with eye-candy visuals of the cast has always been one of the main reasons for a drama's success. I like both actors and how they executed the personality of their characters. The supporting actors, from the vice-president to the rest of the secretaries, also did a great job.

I don’t have much hate about the show and I like it the way it is. However, one can’t argue that it is not the best BL out there but the important thing is they let the viewers enjoy their project and make us feel light from their short yet cute love story. Although the ending feels rushed, I am already satisfied with how it ends -the two of them becoming one and having been accepted by the people around them.

Marking my favorite idols

Casting idols to play as former idols is a good choice and having both Xiumin and Hyungwon in one project is a blessing. Been a fan of these two ever since the peak of their careers as KPOP stars and seeing them together makes my heart beep with happiness. They are my bias in their respective groups and I loved the bond they formed even after the filming of this drama. It is funny that their role contrasts with their real-life personality. Shin Tae Ho being grubby and unorganized is very different from Kim Minseok aka EXO Xiumin as he is the most obsessed idol I knew when it comes to becoming neat and clean. As well as with Jo Yi Joon who was tagged as a fashion terrorist yet Hyungwon from Monsta X is the best dresser in the group. Furthermore, the two of them did not disappoint me as they executed their characters very well with the right amount of acting skills and threw their lines with perfect emotions.

The rest of the cast did pretty well as well and I like each of their characters’ establishment from the story. Eun Young Min, the butcher catches my attention since he is the only actor I didn’t know from the show and he is extremely cute too. I think the downfall of the show for me is how they give us a plot that is too unlikeable. The villain, who turned out to be the cousin of their deceased friend/member, is too hateable. His acting is believable and I wanted to punch his face whenever he showed up on the screen. Having him the redemption of the mart and his reconnection with his auntie and uncle at the end isn’t just as good as it seems to be.

Thunder Boys is such a cool name and I wish they also show us more of their journey when they are still active idols. Yet, the ten episodes are good enough to deliver everything that the story has to offer. I enjoyed it but not as much as I expected it to be. It is all thanks to the perfect set of casts that the drama seems to be more interesting.

Title I Cannot Reach You Spoiler
The cuteness and fluffiness reached my heart!

Been on my list ever since the pre-released announcement as it is one of my most anticipated BL shows this year. This is all thanks to the incredible pairing of the main character who gave me butterflies from their cuteness that are too soft yet gentle for my heart. I do trust Japan when it comes to executing the relevant details and personality of the characters, wherein, Yamato and Kakeru played it very well. The childhood-to-lovers trope is honestly not my cup of tea but this is an exception.

The visuals presented by the production team are stunning. Those bubble effects are whenever there’s a need to highlight and emphasize that the romantic feeling reached by the other person is wholesome. Honestly, I was expecting that this drama might reach the standard of Cherry Magic and Kieta Hatsukoi level, but unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the two mentioned dramas. Yet, I Cannot Reach You is still an above-average BL that gives us a real on-the-spot kissing scene!

I therefore conclude that Haru is the most adorable J-BL actor in the industry. His smiles had that impact of piercing your heart into pieces of joy and sunshine. I wish that both he and Kentaro will reunite in another BL project as still the main couple cause I love them that much.

How I wished that the girl just hid her love forever

It was a weird and intolerable sight for me. I was having such a good time watching the show during the first half but then it became draggy. It all started when the guy started to grow feelings for the young girl. I know that five years gap in a relationship is not considered a very far-away gap, but damn! Why did they not hire a young actor to portray the main male lead during his university days? They just stick to the same actor till the end in wherein it seem too hard for me to accept their romance. The guy felt like a predator who fell in love with a middle school girl.

The main girl's characteristic sticks with being childish until the end. I know that this is not their intention but I can’t help but to feel cringe at their scenes. It was a better ending if the girl ended up with someone his age or those men who tried to court her.

A disappointment from the good reviews from the majority. It wasn’t as good as it seemed to be. The punches that the main guy received from the young girl’s brother are all my feelings towards their pairing. If there’s a different concept, I guess they can win me with their chemistry. But this one is such a meh for me.

Stunned. GMMTV did a great job of pulling another project with wild and extremely intimate scenes with numerous actors. There were too many problematic characters and I am well-entertained by the messy turn of events now and then. Yet, the plot twists weren’t as impactful as I expected them to be but at least they show how to properly deliver a complicated Western-like way of living. Almost all of them taste each other lips, not by a simple smack but literally in an assertive way of kissing.

This show also served as Force and Book Redemption acting compared to their previous projects with bland and non-sense storylines. I guess that they perfectly fit bad boy characters and they survived with the help of the other actors who did a great job playing their respective roles. Mark Pakin once again, ate this show. He was too fragile, bold, and crazy in love with someone who didn’t even consider him a romantic partner. Boston is all about lust and I am happy that in the end, Nick realized how important self-love is, and chose to cut ties with Boston.

All of them have their red flags but if I were picking my favorite character, it would be either Sand or Plug. Although Sand is another man who is admittedly weak for Ray, compared to the rest of the gang, he is probably the least person who will cheat when he's in a relationship. Plug, on the other hand, left me an impression despite his short screen time. The boy was too sincere to be in a serious relationship with Yo, the bar owner. Maybe, he stole my attention because of his handsomeness and being someone new in the industry.

The OST is a banger too. It has an energetic vibe and upbeat music that fits the tension between the casts. The angst was somehow dynamic and cool but I still believe that they can do better. Subjectively speaking, I was hoping that either of the three couples would end up together in the finale since it was more mature and acceptable. But in reality, you can’t hide the fact that such people exist, those who re-entered a toxic relationship and tried to fight the pain of the painful past within themselves.

I’M CRYING!

My favorite Japanese BLs are getting into Thai remake by my favorite BL actors from GMMTV.

First, Cherry Magic with TayNew and now Kieta Hatsukoi by GemFourth!!! I never expected this omg!

Ida and Aoki has always a special place in my heart and I trust Gemini and Fourth to give justice to their characters.

Kim In Sung made his star debut

It managed to be entertaining and above-average, simply because of Kim In Sung who is worthy to be the main character. Without any source of background information, this boy debuted with such a remarkable portrayal of his role. I watched this because of Zuho from SF9 but he literally stole my focus solely to him. Kim In Sung blows me away with his ethereal beauty and most especially how he uses incredible facial expressions to deliver the right emotions needed in his scenes.

Seo Han Joon is a lovable man but too attached to his first love. He doesn’t deserve to be treated so badly by Jo Yoo Jae after his confession. I somehow wanted Han Joon to be paired with his boxing club member. Yoo Jae acts too immature for his age. Nevertheless, as long as my boy Seo Han Joon is happy, I am happy too.

The story is not as good as I anticipated but it is not particularly bad at all. There’s one character in this story who is absolutely annoying -the one with the bandana who acts too childish that doesn’t fit his looks.

The last episode is too random. Kim In Sung chooses his boyfriend over his ill mother who is lying in front of him just because Jo Yoo Jae may leave him again. I hate it. This is what happened when one is giving too much love to the other pair. Can’t he understand that there’s an emergency situation going on with Han Joon? Hmmm… Another thing is that even in the finale, the drama failed to give us a kissing scene! Oh please. They ruin the romantic scene of the couple playing on the swing and watching the night stars over their heads.

Once again, the best thing that happened in this BL is the introduction of Kim In Sung who made his impact on the industry. I hope I can see more of him in plenty of projects. I became a fan!

Title Love Tractor Spoiler
This has to be one of those K-BLs that perfectly blend neatness and uniqueness. It features that masculinity can be tough and soft at any given time. Korean BLs consistently provide us with clean transitioning and setup of their scenes that look too perfect for the eyes of the viewers. The rural town seems too peaceful to live in without too much drama and stress from the villagers. Cinematography is always winning and makes the show more appealing.

The distinctive role of Ye Chan is one of the best foundations and contributions of the story. It is a rare sighting for us, the audience, to get to see that a big man can effortlessly slay having a jolly and fluffy personality. He is indeed my favorite character in this show. There are no cringe moments and he acts with ease and confidence. Hearing his voice in a local accent is alluring, and I want to listen for more. Ye Chan is a big baby; always wearing those pouty lips to make him even cuter.

Another masterpiece presented in these BL is the robust selection of OSTs. It sounds refreshing and at the same time, it can make you dance with its groovy vibes. I even felt happier when I caught on to the fact that Coldin sang the main OST of Love Tractor too. He is the man who gives birth to the iconic Romantic Evil and Can You Stay, two songs from another god-tier BL, Semantic Error.

Love Tractor showcases dreams can be simple and special, it just depends on one's self-value. Just like Seon Yul who chooses his long-term ambition of turning his passion into music as his chosen path of professions. The same case to Ye Chan who founds simple happiness in his simple life as a farmer. The storyline, cast, and overall production are entertaining to consume. I enjoy watching all eight episodes and they give justice for having delightful kissing scenes that feel too passionate and innocent at the same time.

Title Happy Merry Ending Spoiler
At least the ending is happy

I’m not sure if this is good or bad, so I will settle for average. I wasn’t hooked during its earlier episodes but suddenly felt okay after watching the last few episodes. The story isn’t as great as it could be. I feel like they can offer more but for any reason, they choose to play safe as a form of their production-satisfaction.

Byun Sung Tae is the one who brought me to the show. At first glance at the promotional poster, I noticed the familiarity of this man and realized that he also participated in Produce X 101 which I supported during its airing period. Seeing him as the main character of a BL show is actually pretty good since his beautiful face fits the standard visuals of K-BLs. An additional benefit is that he can act and sing in a neutral tone, and I actually liked it.

I guess the biggest downfall of the story is the messy characterization of the Casanova ex-boyfriend (who isn’t handsome at all) and the unrequited love of the male best friend. These two characters offer mixed emotions and unnecessary drama at some point.

For some reason, the drama itself managed to survive by uplifting and focusing on the romantic progress of the main couple without having the supporting characters create walls between their relationship and solely focusing on the emotions of the two main characters.

Explicit sexual tension with a purpose

Another Japanese BL brought something new to the audience. Not your typical romantic drama with an overdramatic storyline. This show wins in terms of uplifting the concept of narrating sexual desires in the mind of a young individual. At first, I was too stunned for having such bed scenes between two students. Yet, I love how they showcase the pros and cons of the main character and how they tackled each of their problems for their respective character development.

Ren is definitely a handsome man and I love his manly yet cute facial expressions. The friend-with-benefits episodes were too hot, especially when they mentioned that they almost have an intimate activity every single day. However, it is not romantically entertaining since lust overcomes love between these two grown men.

I ended up scoring the show not so high but not so low, simply because of its overall impact. It wasn’t the best but I can guarantee they are better than most airing BLs nowadays. I love how the couple ended up being on each other’s side without any of them holding back anymore.
