I think over time with him saving and helping her, and his honesty, and their tennis match conversations, that she has slowly fallen for him (plus he is easy on the eyes). Consider that the last person she thought she love didnt give a shit about her safety but this guy does. Thats my take anyways.

There was an episode where SYR was coming from "work" aka the palace and XFF was outside waiting on him but Wanning happened to be there. The way she was ready to approach him spoke volumes about what most likely was taking place way before the events of episode 1. But yes it would have been interesting to find out a little more of their history.

I guess we will never know? Maybe his priority became surviving at any cost, showing who he is at his core?

Maybe he will die before he knows? Or maybe XH would come to save her while SYR is present? Either way, im on board.

Thinking again about it, even if she needs to seek help, why would she instead choose to go back on the confession instead of seeking a favor from XH? Shes asked the Duke for so much favors before so why would this time be different(let us not forget that she is the pawn of the Emperor so she has been of use many times too so its not one sided).
I really hope the writing is good to the very end.
