The love that was loved and protected by everyone around them.
I sort of feel that I am too late in watching this movie and that I hate myself for not knowing about it until now but... here goes
Imagine waking up in a state of confusion because yesterday you were caught in an accident trying to save a kid, only to read on your head bed a sign that says "I have anterograde amnesia. You don't remember anything from yesterday when you wake up the next day. Please don't forget to read your diary." This i how our main female protagonist always have her mornings. Relearning everything from a book of memories she wrote from yesterday and reliving it as best as she could to move on with this day ahead. Having this condition sure is not all breezy. In fact, it takes a lot of effort, time, and support from everyone around you to actually go on by the day only to have them erased from you while you sleep. Every memory, every feeling, and everything are all a big blur that is familiar and yet still unknown to one. Alas, despite of all these, Hino Maori never gave up. She even went out on her day and live it to the fullest with the help of everyone who surrounds her which includes her best friend, Wataya Izumi, and our main male lead, Kamiya Tooru.
The bond that was shown and acted out throughout the whole movie was as genuine as they all can be with one another, having their characters come to life as if they are their own characters. I know this is how I was initially captivated. The resounding art of one artist in showcasing their roles to give life to one of the most touching and yet tragic story that a lover could possibly experience; being forgotten again and again and again.
Kamiya Tooru, a young lad that is not so brightly seen by their common peers and often associated with the gloomy ones from the rest, approached the quiet and stunning girl that everyone was too cautious to ruin. Her elegance stands out and yet he came with an empty declaration of love in order to try and save his friend from being destructively harassed by the many. With his gentleness, Maori could not have helped but try to welcome him with a smile and a response that left everyone, including the young lad, surprised.
Wataya Izami, a loyal confidantn to Maori, dedicated herself into helping her best friend live her everyday life as lively as she can, even if the cost of it was her pain and becoming utterly a walking diary that records every moment and minute of her life.
The three of them are entangled to a moment of their youth that will forever change each others' lives.
I would not go as much of a detail in what the rest of the story became but instead I will share my experience of pain, guilt, and joy when I was watching this movie. I was so invested with the characters' dynamics and how their story became to be so lighthearted and yet so heavy without leaving a trace of the main context of their overall friendships. I could hardly think that a friend would be so loyal to one to the point of sacrificing herself and her friend's memories in other to save on from the suffering that they were experiencing. This movie shows how love in different forms can be so crucial to one who badly needs it in order to keep going and keep on trying. The love of the one who gave her memories, the love of the one who kept those memories, and the love of those who supported all their loves and memories are greatly shown and well executed in this movies.
This being produced to give life to the book "Konya, Sekai Kara Kono Koi ga Kietemo , SekaKoi; Tonight, Even if This Love Disappears From the World" by Ichijo Misaki, I can't help wonder what I would be feeling if I had the chance to read it for myself. This movie gave me so much emotions and pain that I could only imagine would be 10 times more if I were to read the book.
In all aspects, this movie is a true gem to be seen and to be lavishly regarded. The acting was cleanly executed, the music and songs used were carefully selected and made to support the mood and the feeling of the whole movie, the overall cinematography truly captivated the japanese mellow theme that I personally love, and lastly, the story and the script was well-written and artistically directed to give it an overall satisfying plot that keeps the whole movie grounded together that will leave you with a wholly empty space for it to sink into and make a mark within.
