I interpreted that scene differently... (not saying that your interpretation is wrong, NOT AT ALL)....I just want to point out that no one is really right or wrong here, these are all assumptions/theories....just saying what I saw, only from my perspective:)...Shi De didn't look confused to me, he looked surprised...the same way he looked when Shu Yi came to him at the bridge....at the end of the day we all could be wrong, we're just theorizing NO ONE is right in this situation or knows for sure exactly what Shi De means by 8 years, why he left for eight/and or 5 years, why he was slapped or what happened, lol. It's just nice to talk about what's on our minds and analyze what we THINK happened. At the end of the day given Shu Yi's personality, he wears his heart on his sleeve so I'm sure Shi De had a reason to be slapped, just like I'm sure Shi De has his reasons to that long ass separation...I can't wait for season 2, Shu Yi clearly must have waited for him...ugh my heart hurts for him:/

Lol I'm about to watch other movies/shows myself because that ending definitely makes you over analyze what's going on, especially when I read people's math calculations on how the translation says 5 years but Shi De narrates that they have been separated for 8 years, now I'm over analyzing and thinking that he may have really left for 5 years and has been back for 3 years but didn't go back to Shu Yi:/...your right about him acknowledging that they were going to be together forever...maybe after all those years of being separated he felt it was to late. *Sigh* this entire thing is wrecking my brain, I may just let all the episodes air for season 2 before I watch it, but I know that's a lie, lol

They may have purposely left that out in their conversation to have us scratching our heads about this lol, it was meant for him to also come back I'm assuming since he was back...right?? I don't think he was ever meant to stay there with his mom, but like RaHab75 said, it's not clear on if he was actually there for 5 years or a few months and 5 years passed....it could be the father (but a poster down below in the comments said that the writer normally doesn't write the parents out to be that way based off of her HIStory work) unless of course she's trying something new for her in her own way....I really hope it's not amnesia though, I'll take either the dad being the reason or Shi De getting in his own way and being the reason lol. BTW what poster are you referring to?? Is it the one above? Is it translated? I haven't seen it:/

This is true what you say about unsure if he was in America for exactly 5 years. I'm just analyzing off of Shi De's character and what he's done throughout the show and it's unlike his character to go without finding/being in Shu Yi's presence that's why I theorized based on his character that it was on purpose (now that I'm writing with you I'm thinking if not on purpose he may have given up after so long too) because also based off his character if he's unsure or already feels it's not going to happen in his mind he gives up....hmmm...I'm ready for season 2, I'm going crazy with suspense lol

That teaser really does make you constantly analyze what the situation may be:D I'm just suggesting that Shi De may have known he was leaving for 5 yrs and only told Shu Yi it was a few months because of how extreme his actions are when it comes to Shu Yi and everything he's done up to the point of them getting together. As far as them making memories together, I don't see why he still wouldn't want to make them now that their a couple and he's leaving for America. Especially if he knows he's leaving longer than a few months...

I'm starting to think that the 5 year situation isn't about the father or Shi De having a case of amnesia...I think everyone is forgetting to remember how Shi De setup/orchestrated the entire Healthcare center situation, plus he hinted at the fact that he wanted to make memories before their graduation...he didn't exactly tell Shu Yi that he was leaving to America, Shu Yi overheard him and his cousin talking...I am starting to think that Shi De knew he was going to America for longer than a few months but with his personality, he left that part out of course...he probably thought Shu Yi would move on with "time" OR thought that Shu Yi was just going through a phase with him and would move on like he moved on from liking the girl....it's clear that Shi De has been insecure about Shu Yi's feelings for him and even told his cousin that he didn't think Shu Yi would be/act so different now that they were together...You know how in some foreign shows/movies if out of the ML's one is "letting the other go" they spend a long, last date with them; take videos and pictures for memories knowing that their letting that person go??...If this is the case here Shi De deserves every bit of that slap and then some because why in the entire fuck would you do that?? This is just a theory though lol

Exactly!... Shi De has to be clearly avoiding him...being that he's legit followed him wherever for years but all of a sudden doesn't, cancels out the amnesia theory (atleast to me) bc even with amnesia, and him not remembering their time in Uni doesn't take away the fact that he's followed him around since elementary lol...maybe his calculations were BEFORE the 5 years apart, maybe he didn't calculate the actual 5 years...but that doesn't really make sense either.. ugh I'm ready for the trailer to drop so that I can read your theory as well as others and ofc add my two cents hahaha:P

Aside 4rm the mathematics lol, I didn't agree with the amnesia part myself bc EVEN if he had amnesia he STILL would have done what he ALWAYS did and follow Shu Yi wherever he was...I think his surprised face is Shu Yi finding/coming to him after 5 years!

Lol, at first I thought maybe their playing us and it's really Shu Yi's voice in the voice over buuut after watching and listening to the preview so many times, it's Shi De's voice sooo that theory is out...I would like to think that all the episodes in season 1 foreshadow season 2...Shu Yi saying that his dad went from Japan to Taiwan to win his mother's heart, Shu Yi trying to give his father away bc he's a "trouble maker", Shi De confessing to Shu Yi that he had to be #1 for Shu Yi to notice him (hence season 2's title), meaning now Shu Yi wants to "compete" for Shi De's heart if he thinks he's lost him.....how easily Shi De gave up when he thought he didn't have a chance with Shu Yi in episode 5 foreshadows him letting him go bc of his dad in season 2....Shi De being unsure of Shu Yi's feelings (bc let's be real, some people aren't sold on the fact that Shu Yi fell in love with him just like that, I mean I am:) buuut maybe this second season is about Shu Yi fighting for his love:D)....ALLL of them mentioning how bad Shu Yi's temper is at the table in the cafeteria, Shu Yi saying "Stupid I like you" in the email (may be foreshadowing that regardless of what his father says/thinks understand that it doesn't matter.. I like you), and plenty other foreshadowing...I don't think that Shi De caught amnesia bc I interpreted the scene before the slap as Shi De being surprised Yu came to him, and after the slap Shi De looked hurt/apologetic...I can't wait for season 2:p....another reason why I don't think it's amnesia is because Shi De followed him EVERYWHERE...you mean to tell me that he let allll those years go by and didn't follow him wherever he was???...That's outside
of his character....I could be wrong though....

I especially found it hilarious how nonchalant Yu is talking about their intimate scenes and how fidgety and flustered Sam is lol, Yu is so damn chill eating, drinking and speaking up here and there while Sam is all over the place:D I love it:p I'm sure his girlfriend has fun teasing him:D hahaha on a side note, when it came to the viewers questions I was hoping someone would ask Sam what was going through his characters mind when setting up the Healthcare scene to lock him and Yu in the room together...I think his answer to that question would help those who found it creepy/cringe in understanding where Shi De was coming from...other than that I liked most of the questions:) and Sam had me thinking when he didn't answer the question about whether his character knew that Yu would hear his confession when he knew he remembered things when he sleeps...I can understand him not wanting to take away from other people's interpretations though.
