I am a woman, I have favorite Chinese actresses, they will get older, I still want to see them in dramas, in main…
You do realise that most of those actors on screen are 30+ playing early 20 something too right? If you're gonna criticise someone for their age and the role they play, do it for all of those that apply.
It's gotta be said. True, Victoria might not be the best actress, but targeting her age etc, is just misogynistic and peak 'pick me.' Like, relax, she's not trying to act younger. Jeezzz
The FL here is portray as this young, spoiled and naïve character who only cares about her reputation and happiness,…
I mean, even the young, spoiled and naive characterisation makes no sense, as we're literally told that she's smart. She took care of the entire manor by herself for 5 years. She is shown to understand politics, both state and domestic-wise. She's shown to have the respect from others for her talents and smarts. It's just a pity that the script reduces her to something so bland. But then again, we need space for character development. As for the ML, as people seem to be scared of criticising him for some reason, I'm looking forward to seeing his expressions soften and diversify. Genuinely hope the leading CP improve and develops, coz personally I still want to stick out this drama for the 2nd and 3rd CPs.
I can't be the only one who thinks the FML lacks character, kinda does nothing (so far, I could be wrong if it develops) and seems to have zero drive. It's giving Mary Sue, not even the actress's fault. The ML has character, drive and does a lot, but the portrayal and styling are just lacklustre. It's giving typecasting.
Not sure about everyone else but I was nearly fooled by the negative reviews of the first few episodes AND the promotional direction where they mostly push the 3rd pair as the main cp. SOOO glad that I started this and SOOO glad that every pair has their own interesting dynamic and that, again, those red flags in our MLs aren't actual red flags but are just beige flags.
My hot take for this drama is that the red flags our MLs have, are actually just beige flags. Our FLs are literally characterised to "match" the MLs, everything just kinda cancels out.
This show is the biggest reality check about humans and our flaws (just super exaggerated). I think that's what makes it so jarring for many viewers, hence all the negative reviews. I say give it a shot if you're looking for validation to start the series, tho skip it if "being too close to reality" is not your cup of tea.
Literallyyyy! Their story is so complex and well executed. Like what do you mean, the person he loves is the only person who can k*ll him? What do you mean she was brainwashed and forced to do bad things and have to live with the guilt. We need a story like their's as the main storyline.
Y'all it's not looking good. I saw a comment on tiktok where someone noticed Bai Xi didn't let Bai Shou check her pulse after the pill was taken.... and how that could be foreshadowing...
Putting this drama on hold after the first 8 episodes after seeing how the dynamic of the 3 leads is developing. I don't know, the FML and ML as a couple seem so self-absorbed almost? The entire world and everyone in it seems to revolve around this CP, becoming a plot device for their love? Especially the SML. And somehow I find that shallow. It almost feel like the "original" storylines of those reborn stories/novels where the OG lead CP are just so focused on themselves, ignorant of the suffering around them, esp with the OG SML.
Tho I might be the only one thinking that... lol
