Thanks for the piece. Loved that kid in Samurai Sensei. But this one comment though, 'He is down-to-earth, gentle,…
I do know him personally. HAHA! Kidding, of course. How I wish. I actually wrote those basing on his and his co-actors' interviews and all. Mostly about working etiquette. And honestly, no matter how great an actor is, he's less loveable if he's got a bad attitude, right? Since this is Kamiki's SG, I wanted a bit of his character to be known as well. Anyway, I admit that is quite subjective and I should have focused more on his portrayals of the characters. I shall do well next time. (If ever there is. :)))

You have my deepest gratitude for writing this interesting article. I've always believed that J-dramas aren't given the love they deserve. Personally, I prefer J-dramas over K-dramas any time, though I do watch and love dramas/movies from Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and, just recently, China, as well. It's just that it's easier for me to get attached to J-dramas for various reasons. Now, to give my comments on the points you said:

1. Truly, as the old adage says, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". However, I find people using such an excuse shallow. I know that an actor/actress' looks may affect the enjoyment of watching the drama, but whatever happens to the plot and other aspects of drama? What if the actor/actress could act better than the good-looking ones? We may miss a good show just because we ignored it for that reason.

2. This reason may be because people are looking at the wrong place, watching the drama not to their taste. It's sad because when one person happen to come across a J-drama which requires exaggerated acting (more common on those with slapstick comedy, I guess), he stops and never tries another J-drama again. There are a lot of great Japanese actors and actresses out there. There are even those which gain international recognitions.

3. A round of applause for your point here. Anyway, what is good cinematography if the story is not good and/or the actors are bad?

4. I don't know what the problem is here. Don't people want to save time? Don't they want to be able to watch more? For me, this is one of J-dramas good points. Even with just 8-12 episodes, they are able to deliver stories with loveable characters which you can get attached to.

5. I guess I'm one of those who love watching dramas which presents characters which may be seen in the lives of the people surrounding me. I love Japan's human/slice of life dramas. I love character driven stories. I love J-dramas because even though most of them are grounded on the real, they give hope and deep insights about life which could help us be better. True, it's enjoyable to watch fun stuff which are able to help me forget where I am, what situation I am in, and all the other things, but I guess I prefer being given a different view on the things of the world.

6. I know that the 90s is Japanese dramas' golden era. I've only watched one from the time -- Long Vacation, and I certainly recommend it. Again, I think we all need to know where to look. Anyway, I guess I'm also one of those who like subtle romances, ones that may be hinted but not addressed because, well, the romance aspect isn't helpful in the plot presented.

7. It's not like K-dramas don't have idols. In fact, I think more and more idols are starting to give the field of acting a try. I don't mind idols so long as they can act.

8. I don't know where the reasoning is coming from because I see Japanese dramas as a mixture of a variety of shows which changes every season.

I do hope this article may bring some people to venture on Jdoramaland. Thumbs up for this! :)

Oh my. Gintama? Really?!

FMA has been green-lighted and finally has confirmed cast. And now it's Gintama. Because Oguri Shun is said to be the one to play Gintoki, I'm not yet freaking out that much because I can imagine him in that role. I hope the other actors and actresses that they'll choose will be just as good, though. The ones acting as Kagura and Shinpachi should have good chemistry with Oguri.

Whatever the plot may be, whoever may be the director, staff, and cast may be, may the film give justice to Hideaki-sensei's masterpiece. *^*

JIBONG APPA! Surprised to see his picture of him with facial hairs because he's totally flawless (in a manly way) in ROS. But, man, he's so handsome! And I really like his wife because she's funny. :))

His daughter Haeun is so adorable! Among the new dads in ROS, IGJ is the most jolly. :))

The cast was amazing,it could attract the audience to watched this drama but the plot from what i read was lame??but…
It's from the writer of Koinaka. I haven't watched that one yet, but I've read many negative comments about it. (I'm not much of a fan of the leads, esp of Sota, so I don't have much motivation to start watching it.)

This is a very well-written article! I got so excited to see someone actually introducing J-dramas to people. (I like the title of your article! :D)

The titles you mentioned are definitely good. (I haven't seen some of them yet, though. </3) But the ones you mentioned which I already watched (Legal High, Code Blue, Orange Days, etc.) are recommended in their genre.

What I love most about J-dramas are them being realistic, as you already mentioned here. Of course, a lot of live action adaptations of manga series are exceptions to this. Anyway, because of the characters being realistic, they are more relatable. I don't know why, but I've also been feeling nostalgic whenever I see most of the setting in J-dramas. (I haven't even been there yet!) And yes, I love how they portray the relationships among friends, family, and school. I also like subtle romance (though it's frustrating at times) and I think they are good with it.

I hope more people notice J-dramas. I guess they're put off because of lack of romance, but we're missing out a lot of good plots because less people watch them = less available subs.

Looking forward for your next article. Good job on this! :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I almost thought no one would pick this up.

I'm actually afraid of the possibility that they may butcher this. I love FMA so much that the thought is unbearable. Also, a lot of stuff (and characters!) that happened (and present) won't be covered and I just can't imagine how they'll make the story whole. They'll prolly change a looot of things and I can just hope that the screenplay will be good as well as the actors. Actually, everything should be good. Fingers crossed. *^*

Definitely watching out for Descendants of the Sun, Uncontrollably Fond, and Goodbye Mr. Black. Especially DOTS. So delighted to know that Woo Bin's finally the main lead tho I do hope that there's more to the plot than what is given in the summary.

Anyway, the title of this article is misleading. It should be "Korean dramas not to miss in 2016" or something. I expected this would contain Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Thai dramas. K-dramas aren't all there is in dramaland. Please be more accurate in constructing a title next time. Anyway, thank you for the heads up for these dramas. (Tho posts about DOTS has been flooding my feed for a while now. Not that I'm complaining.)

Oh, how I loved YUI's Goodbye Days. Taiyo is one of the earliest Japanese films I've watched so it holds a special place in my heart. I liked Beck and Solanin (KENGO KORA <3) as well. Good recommendations! I'd add Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru, though. :)

This is an interesting article! I love the concept and the way you wrote this. I still don't plan to watch The Heirs (not only because of its reputation, but also because I'm not a fan of PSH) but I commend you for this. Looking forward to more of this! :D

When I read the title, Suzuki Sensei immediately came to mind. Haha! GTO has been on my list forever. Ack! I wonder when I'll have time for it. And I didn't know Akumu-chan is a school drama. I guess I'm not as interested to it as others. I'll still give it a try, though, since it's already on my PTW.

The Queen's Classroom and Gomenne Seishun! are worth watching as well. :D
