Watched for the third time. It's a well written drama. It follows the Korean Drama formula to a tee...and that is fine with me when it is done excellently. This never drags. It's over the top in many ways, but yet real enough to be provocative. This time I watched with my sweet Deanna Lee. She loved it too!
This is a great drama. I get frustrated at how some of the things they get away with.......pertaining to the law.…
I will say Jung Woo Sung can at times be goofy and over act. He reminds me of Nicholas Cage if you are familiar with the American actor. However, just when he verges on being annoying, he is excellent. Overall, I think he is very good. Just on occasions he can be goofy.
currently at Ep6 and I honestly don't know why there are a lot of negative comments here. My opinion might…
One of my all time favorites. Ku Hye Sun is wonderful. Her character for a time will annoy you, but she has to act and say what the script says, it's not her fault.
I stand by what I said in my previous comment. The pace was just too brisk and so too many things were taken for granted. Not nearly enough development. Most of us have seen Boys Over Flowers or maybe even Meteor Garden before seeing this and because if that know more how things develope, but if this was a complete stand alone it MAY have moved too quickly to believe. Perhaps if we haven't seen the others we would have accepted the brisk pace, I don't know. Still it felt too underdeveloped for me. Still I liked it a lot. The Shancai/JanDi character was by far the most charming of the series. I really did not like or dislike any of the other characters. They were just kinda there. This one had by far the lamest F4. The second half of the final episode really was the saving grace for the series. It wrapped things up nicely. Unlike the final episode of the original Meteor Garden which was a mess (except the final 5 minutes which were nice). All in all, this was fine for a quick watch to say you've watched it. It's only 9 episodes at only 45 minutes each. It's good, but I would rather watch the original Meteor Garden, or the Korean Boys Over Flowers, or the new Chinese Meteor Garden. Funny because the whole story originates from a Japanese Manga.
Episode 13 is by far the best episode yet to me. The most convincing yet in the love interest between Eugene and Ae Sin. Playful and cute too. Then the end was moving and tearful.
I'm on episode 6 and this one is very nice, but the plot points are so rushed. If you thought it was far fetched that the head of F4 would fall for the sweet, poor girl this is even more incredulous because we aren't given enough time to see the admiration he gains for her grow. That is just one example. Since it is only 9 episodes, everything flies by ...except the best handled part of all the series so far. The friend who betrays hey because of her love of the head of F4 and the kidnap scene. Here in Hana Yori Dango it is combined and it is really quite effective. I still have a few more episodes, we will see how it closes. For the record, I am enjoying it. I mean I love the story. I have watched the Taiwanese Meteor Garden, Korean Boys Over Flowers and I'm watching the Chinese remake of Meteor Garden. I enjoy this one. It has it's charms for sure, but the quick pacing is almost too quick for me. Heck, I likely will watch the 1996 anime version next.
While I would watch a 5th season, it's getting a bit boring. Michiko is so over powered that there isn't…
You are correct, but oddly that is it's charm. The American TV drama House was the same way, you knew he would figure it out in the end, but it was always enjoyable.
It's a tough one. It's good. It seems like I should have liked it much more than I did. I think it's current grade of 8 is not incorrect. There just seems to be some disconnect for me keeping it from excellent.
I just finished this version and simply loved it. Does it have lower production values than Hana Yori Dango, Boys Over Flowers or the remake Meteor Garden... Yes. However this one has a charm to it that is undeniable. I think Shancai here is so much more real than the others. The F4 here is much more manly in this one to me...less pretty boy. I loved Shancai's temper and anger, yet she build be tender and so much more real than those other depictions of her. I adored Jandi and like the new Shancai... I'm current just starting Hana Yori Dango. But the new Shancai and JanDi seem so much more manufactured than this Shancai. The downers are the production value was kinda low. The audio sounded like it was recorded on a VHS camcorder. The acting wasn't fantastic. And the biggest let down was the final episode. It ended very preposterous and rushed ending. Still I loved all it's charms and so very very glad I watched it. 17 years ago. Wow. The gal who played Shancai was only about 24 at the time and is now 41. Time flys.
