Oh...my...goodness. Wow. I didn't see this coming. It started a bit cheesy. I wasn't too sure the first 15 minutes or so, but it turned WONDERFUL!! It has some plot contrivances, but I don't care it was beautiful. Stark, real, authentic. It just became winsome and didn't let up with the heart and charm. My eyes were definitely full of tears. Please give it a try.
I found this on Viki. I then came out here to mydramalist. It had a rating of 3.8. I was leery. Then I saw it was from only two people. I decided to go ahead anyway. I am sure glad I did!
I really enjoyed this even if the plot seemed disjointed. I try never to watch these movies with an overly critical mind. I just go with them for the enjoyment and I'm almost never disappointed. For some odd reason this film was extra fun. Again if you suspend logic and reason. You have to. My biggest complaint is the ending just ended. It did not seem to conclude the story at all. Perhaps that was by design expecting a sequel. I don't know. If you can just enjoy a film and go with things, give it a watch. As others have said, Donnie Yen always delivers the action.
I really liked this. It was wuxia lite in terms of martial arts fighting. It was more sorry driven. Sadly I haven't seen the first one, but I recommend this one. As of December 25th, 2018 it's on Viki.
Love these movies. I watched Ip Man first, then I watched this one and I'm about to watch the 3rd one. Ok, there is a VERY quick way to sum up this iteration... CHINA'S ROCKY! That's it. This is there Rocky. 100%. Nothing wrong with that either. It just is. Not just because of the boxing angle either, I'm talking the story, setup, and the way the fight ensues. Finally, I do not look for realism in these movies. I can go with things being ridiculous. However, I have never seen a boxer block like in a martial arts way until this movie!! Haha. Twister is able to nearly block as well as the Chinese fighters. It's a bit jarring at first, but I quickly accepted it. Lol.
Ok...do not think you are watching a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Yes it shares the title and sword and Michelle Yeoh, but that's it. Now having said that, this is a good movie. It is decently done so long as you don't try to compare it to the immortal predecessor. The funny thing is, plot wise, it made me think of Kung Fu Panda. SERIOUSLY. The names of the five warriors. The bad guy. Etc. That isn't so bad though. Do we need a deep story for these movies. No. Wuxia has its tropes. Think about it, do we watch Jurassic Park for the story. The story needs only be serviceable for the action the film brings. This movie does that fine. Enjoyment is to be found here...as long as you resist comparing it to the brilliant Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
I'm kinda new to Wuxia, but this seemed kinda cool in spite the story seeming like it had huge gaps...or it felt like that. Maybe it's part of the genre I don't know. I liked it though. I will be seeking out more.
On episode 14 and it is dynamite! Wonderful. Amazing. Never would you foresee all the implications to implementing your own alphabet... particularly one that laypeople would easily understand. Wow.
That was one hell of an opening for the very first episode! Finally something good to watch. I’ve been disappointed…
I'm watching Tree with Deep Roots and Sejong makes me want to watch this. A heck of a commitment at 86 episodes, but if it is good I don't mind. My favorite sageuk so far is Queen Seon Duk. Magnificent!!
