Just finished watching this drama and I really enjoyed it! The storyline was just okay, predictable, but the chemistry between the leads was amazing!! Can anyone here recommend more dramas to me with main leads with good chemistry? My favs so far are: story of MingLan, under the power, 10 miles of peach blossoms... I really enjoyed it! I didn’t watch for the main couple though, I enjoyed watching the interactions between the main couple and their families and friends! I loved the Shen family!
I thought this drama was great! I interpreted the ending differently then most people.... it definitely was a very tragic ending!
The emperor was in a difficult position as Wang implicated Shen Lige in his schemes and therefore implicated the Shen family. This would result in the death sentence for everyone. Also wang most likely exposed senior and junior brothers as members of zhu xue alliance and therefore would also lead to a death sentence.
The reason why the Shen Manor and shop were empty is because everyone was executed in secret by the emperor. Shen Lige commits suicide for 2 reasons 1) she knows she can not escape this outcome and 2) she sacrifices her self for the good of the Song people because they need Prince Peng Cheng to have peace.
Also, the emperor issues his life saving decree just for show...everyone is already dead but he needs Prince Peng Cheng to still work for him.
Because of all this Prince Peng Cheng lives in a delusional state of mind when it comes to Shen family and Lige. Notice how the only person who interacts with Shens is him.... meaning Prince Jing Ling is not at the family table.
Also when he goes to Lige at the end the scene is very glitchy... so unless this drama is “joy of life” there is no reason for that to happen (not a sci fi drama) ... the glitch is there to show that his reality is distorted and he finds happiness in his mind. Notice how she is dressed too.... in white and as his heroine, when times were more simple between them.
That is my interpretation of the ending. It follows the themes of the drama... in order to establish peace there are sacrifices and in the end the emperor has the ultimate power.
I was NOT interested in watching this drama at all because I heard it was a comedy and I didn’t think the two leads made a good match... well I was “forced” to watch it because someone in my house was watching it.... and wow was I caught off guard!! I LOVED it! It was really funny because it was making fun of itself! I also thought the leads had amazing comedic chemistry and amazing romantic chemistry! Wang Wu is now one of my all time favourite female lead character! She’s so awesome!
So I was extremely excited about watching this drama due to its awesome reviews and ratings...and also I was interested in the relationship between the two leads..., but honestly I was so disappointed! I think the stand out performances were definitely the 2 male leads but I’m not sure if it’s because they were truly great or that the rest of the cast were that bad... also the plot was boring... I’m sorry to everyone who loved this drama but I honestly felt that it was really horrible!

I loved “Prince of Lanling” with William Feng and Ariel Lin... it’s from 2013 but it has a good story... middle a little big draggy but it’s a very sweet romance between the main leads!
Also female lead is spunky and smart and male lead is loyal and committed!
Wait so how is it I just started this and all Ik is so far it seems good and very different from other shows.
Let’s just say the actors/actresses do a very good job at building relationships and developing their characters.... some may say the ending is open/tragic.... there is a major death and I totally felt destroyed by it... I cried the entire night haha
