Did u watch it without fast forwarding? Because if u did fast forward scenes I can understand why u didn’t enjoy it. The drama has to be viewed in its entirety. Hope u find a drama more to ur liking! :)

Hi! My 2 cents!
1) I rather think her expressing her unconditional love and losing all logic and desperately pleading in his behalf was pretty spectacular. Throughout their whole relationship MingLan was always cautious and composed to the point that GTY didn’t know if she loved him or not. I think the story was about her evolution as a person going from overly calculative to passionate. So in my opinion I thought her losing composure is more satisfying then if she had schemed to save him because quite honestly throughout the drama she has already proven she’s a master schemer... we don’t need to see it again.
2. I think throughout the story they kept saying MingLan was responsible for the inner court and GTY was responsible for the outer court and political arena. It makes total sense to me that he wouldn’t want to involve his wife in the Emperors plan. Also I don’t think him not telling her the truth in prison was him testing her. He was thinking of her safety because he knew ED had spies everywhere and probably in the prison.
3. One of the reasons why I loved this drama was because it just didn’t focus on the main characters and their story. It was really a story about every character and their development. I really enjoyed watching as the Emperor and Empress proved their ability and ambition to rule the country. It actually brought tears to my eyes.
We all have different opinions that is just mine! What a great drama! :)

It’s a great storyline and the actors / actresses do a wonderful job! I mean u can tell that it is lower budget but it really doesn’t matter... I really enjoyed it! Not sure if u wanted spoilers or not??

He is totally faithful to her. You can’t blame him about the mistress and children before he was in a relationship with Minglan because honestly at that time he owed her nothing. But I can tell u after he decides to pursue her he is 100% faithful! Also about the concubines... let’s just say Uncle Gu is a one woman man when it comes to MingLan! Hope u give it a chance!!
I would only recommend this drama to those who enjoy watching characters develop and change over time and learn from their experiences/mistakes ... the story is like a slow burn, the acting is top notch... u must watch every episode !! If u fast forward scenes you will loose the very essence of the drama if that makes sense!
I watched 3 episodes and feel a bit disappointed... does it get better later on? I love both leads but feel like this drama is on the silly shallow side...
I wish Chinese dramas cast close to accurate actors I mean I'm not asking for 16 year old to play 16 year olds…
The drama I watched before this was “Fights Breaks Sphere” which had a muuuuch younger cast...and although I enjoyed FBS there is no way any of those actors/actresses could portray the type of subtle emotions required for “The Story of Ming lan”... I am willing to look past the age thing as long as the acting is good and this drama has amazing acting from everyone in the cast! :)

This is the type of drama where you can not skip through the episodes... you need to watch every episode and pay attention to every detail ... only then will you understand the character developments and the story driven plot. This is not the usual harem drama where all the women are plotting to kill each other.... it is a glimpse into how life was for women during that time and how they each had to find ways to survive...To each their own... I for one absolutely love this drama! I hope you find a drama that you love and can binge watch!!❤️

ENDING SPOILER
Lan ling sacrifices himself to save the nation, gets executed by king but secretly saved by evil Queen. Before he “dies” he sends his wife to the King of Zhou so he can protect her. She is cared for by the King of Zhou but does not accept his affections. Queen of Zhou gets jealous of her and tries to kill her and she is saved by king of Zhou. This marks the end of their relationship (king and Queen of Zhou) although he lets her keep her title. In the end lan ling reunite with his wife but Is determined to kill evil king and Queen... evil king and Queen die but so does lan ling’s wife as she is shot by poison arrow. King of Zhou also dies in the end (ingested poison a while back when he was trying to save female lead). Lan ling lives and raises his son by himself.
But those the king end up with his wife? Cause I haven’t watch it but I’m already feeling bad for the poor…
