K-Drama Strong beginning, decent journey and a unnecessary ending
Now this show starts off with a bang like I'm talking about it captured my attention because very few shows want to depict certain notions due to how jarring it is. Me, I was excited to see writers just go for the throat. Absolutely drew me in.
Do not expect this following
- Do not expect a person struggling to hide their identity which MDL summary had, there was none of that
- Do not expect some justice or storyline involving her deceased family, they do cover it briefly but out of 47EP it's like 20 mins
The beginning is the best like I'll call it the pre-time skip arc where she's a slave. That is not a spoiler and that arc is pretty much solid like 9 out of 10. Female lead carries the show and is very likeable. There's a lot of focus on friendship and surviving the waters of slaves vs masters.
Then a time skip happens.
This then becomes less about her development and the rest of the show is development around other characters. There's actually very little cheesy romance as well but the romance is time skipped. Yes, there's a tonne of time skipping in this show going towards the ending.
The non-slave arc is a good 6 out of 10 because it feels like the drama doesn't involve her which is like you have to recognise who is your carry and focus on that. Instead it's drama around other people that she gets involved in which is fine but it creates less character development and also she's less likeable in this arc.
Now I won't spoil things but I feel like the story would be better if it focused on romance a bit and didn't introduce the time skip which then what happens in the show happens. They should have focused more on slavery and her role but they kind of just went from here we have slaves, oh and we forgot about slaves but then the show ends on this weird note like throughout the show it has female empowerment but they turn it up to 1000% even at the very end it's like female this female that, they don't even have males it's just time skip, females, time skip females, females females females... it felt so cheap.
Ending was frustrating like truly a 3 out of 10
1. Time skips like a million times is so unnecessary
2. Due to the time skips they start introducing unnecessary characters like who cares about those people
3. Time skips into drama and resolves said drama because they want to wrap up everyone
4. Unnecessary killing spree if you understand what I mean... just because they want a bittersweet ending and just forcing "growth"
5. For some reason the show was not that big on female empowerment like the aspect is there with the female characters but near the end it's like they just scaled up female this female that females are the best to 1000%
Also you'll end up around episode 41/42 feeling like this is a good "ending" because they actually resolve a lot of things at this state and the next 5 episode is just insufferable writing. It's just like unnecessary and forced which ruins the show.
For some reason I felt like there was 3 different writers like one was strong making the beginning of the story the slave arc. Then the family arc was weak because they changed the male leads character which there are a lot of things I question going this is out of character and there was no development towards this and the ending was just wow... unnecessary.
Some things feel forced but overall it's a good watch like the last few episodes aren't terrible but unnecessary.
