I’m a woman and I still couldn’t like it. It’s the only dropped drama on my list, so I keep checking it.…
Ah I didn't know it happens again, I would say that should probably be marked with a spoiler, but there is probably other people like us that need to hear that. Because it definitely makes a difference. I was a bit disappointed because I don't like dropping shows with such high ratings, but it is what it is. Not every show is made for every person.
Seriously, what? "the female lead just seems to be treating the male lead too awfully... she doesn't need…
Sorry, I just don't agree. We watched the same show, but what seemed neutral to you still seemed pretty cold to me. I mean sure we can say that the male lead can do whatever he wants and shouldn't have any expectation of anything in return, but this is a romance drama. I want to see romance. Not a dude getting rejected and ignored over and over. Part of what makes him come off as somewhat obsessive is the fact that she is so coldly ignoring him all the time and he keeps persisting. If there was a little bit more give and take, the main guy would look less pathetic, but I still think the main guy is a good guy largely doing stuff for the benefit of the woman. I am not really gonna be convinced that "actually the male lead is the problem" in all this.
I understand your point of view because I’m also a man, and I watched First Frost with my little sister and…
Thank you for the detailed response, I am glad to hear you enjoyed the drama. Not that I am in a bad space mentally or anything, but I think I am just not at the current point where I can appreciate this drama right now, I definitely went in with the wrong expectations. It may be a more enjoyable watch this winter when the seasons and themes more closely align. I do think that if this drama had the Chinese title translated more literally: "Hard to coax (into love)" that it would have been a bit easier to prepare for as well lol.
I just finished watching Filter and greatly enjoyed it, and just started watching Blossom, which I am also greatly enjoying. Thanks for getting back to me on this topic.
I just finished episode 8 and I am having a really hard time continuing this drama.
Maybe its just because I am a dude and I can sympathize with the male lead, but the female lead just seems to be treating the male lead too awfully, and its super exhausting with each episode. Every episode makes me like the male lead more, like the female lead less, and while I get the female lead has a super troubled past and doesn't feel deserving of the male lead, she doesn't need to be so cold and force so many misunderstandings. I have seen other shows with depressing backstories for the leads, but none of them felt this slow and agonizingly forced as this one. As someone who loves romantic C-dramas and K-Dramas, I don't want to say there are shows that only men or women can love, but it definitely feels like this show was not made for a guy like me to enjoy. I don't need everything to be a sweet silly romantic comedy, but I don't want to watch the male lead get tortured for 10-15 episodes for a cold ungrateful female lead. I get its supposed to be a story about how a woman who feels worthless can still find love, but actions speak louder than words and her actions have been pretty consistently awful.
This is the best Chinese drama I have ever seen, period. It didn't need 40 episodes to tell a good story, it was incredibly gripping and emotional with each and every episode and the quality of production was superb. Seriously on par with 10 star Korean productions. If you are on the fence about this drama, just watch it. It is all free on YoYo English's Youtube channel as well. WATCH IT.
The "amnesia" trope again, oh god WHY??? The story was going so well and they ruined it. Thankfully ML remembers…
Sums up my feelings exactly, just finished it today. I have a long list of Chinese dramas to try over the next two months or so though so hopefully we get some even better stories. Still was a finish-able show and I enjoyed most of it.
So this drama has a very low rating, but I don't know if it is accurate to the actual show. It sounds like many people drop after the first couple of episodes (people seem to have forgotten the 4 episode rule of watching dramas) and many people are waiting to watch it until it finishes airing, but if the rating is particularly dominated by people who only watched the first 2-3 episodes and it is rated poorly, maybe many people won't pick it up after it is over. Potentially giving this show a lower rating than it deserves.
Who here is actually up to date on this show, and are you enjoying it? What do you think its real rating should be? Or does the current rating accurately reflect the show? I understand that Taiwanese Dramas tend to be a different experience than Kdramas, so I don't need to hear how it lacks in that regard. I am considering watching it, but also unsure given the current ratings.
WOW I am out of the loop. This drama was by far the most highly rated one for the last like month or so and I was considering watching it, but look how low it is fallen. I guess that is one drama to write off my list.
9.5/10, Don't ask questions just watch it and enjoy the ride. If the premise or genres sound even remotely interesting to you, you will love this show.
A lot of people seem to get pretty put off by this show before finishing the first or second episdoe, but it really really is an incredibly self aware hilarious masterpiece of a show. It is especially fun how it pokes fun at a lot of very popular Korean dramas and I am enough of a nerd to understand all the references. I highly highly recommend this to anyone on the fence for watching.
Just Between Lover's takes the cake as my favorite Melo-romance drama (and favorite drama of all time), and I am glad that you gave it a spot on the list.
I have finished Something in the Rain, and I actually rated it rather low BECAUSE I got so invested and was so impressed by the show, but then by the end they made a lot of decisions that flew completely in the face of how I felt the show should have gone. I still somewhat feel like the relationship was rather sucky when I grew to care about the characters very deeply. It was a very real show, but its reality is what made me feel worse after it didn't seem to develop into what was my opinion, a healthy relationship.
I heard One Spring Night was better, and I started watching it and was really enjoying it for a while, but at some point near the end of it I heard something would happen that kind of put me off from finishing it (Because it is a trope I absolutely detest in Kdramas), I don't even remember very well what it was, but I have never picked up the show since unfortunately :/
A piece of your mind looked good, but I never considered starting it because of that episode cut, I was scared I would get invested but always be reminded of that fact it wasn't as great as it was originally envisioned to be.
I haven't seen secret love affair but am now interested in giving it a shot. Thank you :)
Is this show worth the watch? It has such a high rating but everyone's hating on it...
Yes, the general rule of Kdramas is that you should give every show at least 4 episodes to draw your attention because many start slowly or the world takes getting used to. This is one of those shows. The first episodes are not bad, but they are quite slow in developing the world and establishing the characters, but by episode 4 you will be dying like the rest of us as you excitedly wait for more.
I feel like when this drama was first coming out, its ratings and reviews were kind of low and so I ignored it. I don't think shows ratings jump up very often. Why are people enjoying it so much now?
