I didn't watch that one so I don't know lol, but honestly the ending didn't ruin the show for me. I was pretty down these days and this drama really made me happy watching it.

Originally it wasn't ment for her and him but his own frustrations, later he sees her heroic actions and writes her in as that first savior that stopped the apocalypse way back when so she was the first glimmer of hope when they were in school. And now when he was under anestesia for surgery and her sleeping they expirienced it together and fixed it, because everyone has hope works together in the novel world in the end, and even Ziqi changed and became hopeful and a hero of the story. I think this version and every other book he wrote was for her from then on. Also it's implied he matured as an adult and it's not like the version he wrote as a teenager. I am glad you will finish, I hope you let me know what you thought of it!

They have some cute moments towards the end on their solo journey but yeah, they never get super developed but I guess that makes sense with a child writing it lol

All the character use the power of friendship and defeat the resentful woman which should have stopped the apocalypse but it doesn't because that is what the author wrote. So they all unite and create the ladder to the sky to meet the author. Ziqi meets him and realizes he is the author and he wrote that when he was a very sick child who is sidelined and that is why everyone in the novel keeps secrets and betrays each other and he is the side character because that is how he sees himself. Ziqi is trying to convince teenager him that ending can be changed and he can take action and be a good and strong person and a protagonist of his life. He rescues his child self as he remembers everything. As an adult he needs surgery for his condition and he is scared of dying and makes three wishes (i can't remember them exactly). Also he knew MM as his classmate and she inspired optimism in him because she fought for the weak. Anyway after that he meets in the game MM and they say goodbye and he reaches 100% and then she is back in reality and the whole thing was just a dream for her and she barely remembers him. Then she is back to her regular life and a few months pass and she goes to a book signing for her favorite author who rewrote his first book Love game in eastern fantasy to be more happy. When she comes there she hears him calling her name and turns around and all the media starts taking pictures and it cuts off here (we don't see him), we see a dedication he put for her in the book bc she saved him twice and how you can't love anyone 100% until you love yourself. The end.

I don't know I thought maybe they have issues with one another or one of them just doesn't want to do kissing scenes because I don't get why it didn't happen. Especially since the second couple had them so it's not like the show wanted to avoid it...

I was really liking the last episode until the last scene. It just felt like they cut it off randomly... Why not just complete it? Also why did he only kiss her on the forehead in that final scene? Is there some issues with the actors about kissing scenes?

I agree. I liked it all but that final scene, if it didn't cut off the way it did I would think it was a perfect ending.

It's primarily romance focused, there are fights every few episodes but i wouldn't say a lot. I didn't watch the drama you are referencing so I can't compare but it's not like Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Sabre where martial arts and adventure is the main focus.

Romance is front and center in this drama, other plotlines are secondary. They become a couple 2/3 through the show but no kissing outside of a dream so far.
