In which episode did they get together? In which episode did they breakup and get back again?Any love triangle…
All love stories don't have to follow just one formula.

AMNESIA???!? TWICE????!? Are you kidding me? What an anticlimax. Also, the love story was for the most part rubbish.…
Yeah, I watched this right after watching another recent historical where they did the exact same thing at the end: time skip with no contact. Is this what we're doing now? Really?
So it was two in a row for me, a bit too much...

This is pretty sweet.

I am really enjoying My Dearest. But does everyone here realize it is an exact replica of Gone with the Wind?…
I think they were pretty open about it being a retelling.
I find it interesting, like a grown-up version of GWTW. They managed to fix a lot of things. I'm not sure if they managed to fix the romance entirely, though.

Title My Dearest Part 2 Spoiler
So, who's the king in the end? And why did he put the singer in prison? He also didn't want to kill him.
He is Bongrim, the crown prince's younger brother who was in exile in Qing with him.

In the beginning of the first ep we get "1659".
Then we have the crown prince's death, which happened in 1645.
14 years.
So pointless.

Title My Dearest Part 2 Spoiler
I seem to be the only person who found the way the FL lead was written annoying. Bold when it didn't matter, arrogant,…
The male lead was flawed too.
At least she was presented as a young unmarried woman which makes her, what? 16? 17? Who grew up being told that women should kill themselves if a man touched their wrist.
In comes the male lead, a grown-up, already an established merchant so he can't be that young. He sees this young child (with our modern standards) and fancies her and decides to move to her village and do stuff for her all by himself. He doesn't deny having girlfriends in every province when she asks him outright. He lies to her about saving her on the island. He lies to her a number of times, in fact, "for her own good". He's off and on, cold and hot, like a freaking PUA. And when he finds her in Qing, traumatised and in a terrible state, he SCREAMS at her. Oh, he's as flawed as they come.

AMNESIA???!? TWICE????!? Are you kidding me? What an anticlimax.
Also, the love story was for the most part rubbish. But so was the original, Gone With the Wind. Dysfunctional lack of communication is NOT romantic. I don't want to see grown-ups acting like 12-year-olds.
And the ending they gave Ryangeum? Well that ran out into the sand.
All the rest was magnificent. The friendships. The scholars fighting with their ideology. There was enough to create actual obstacles.
I sort of miss the time when we could trust in a sageuk having a decent tragic ending. This HEA-trend is getting ridiculous.

They had one of the best dramas in a long while, with great actors, an interesting time in korean history and really strong social and political commentary... and then went and kinda ruined it?

Title My Dearest Part 2 Spoiler
Why doesn't the king trust his own crown prince?💀
He himself got the throne via a coup, so he was worried the same thing would happen to him.
Also, the justification for the coup was that the previous king was being disloyal to Ming and too friendly with the "barbarians" Qing. After the Qing conquered both Ming and Korea, the crown prince spent a few years as their hostage and came back not hating them. The king, being very pro-Ming and owning his throne to Ming, was very suspicious of being dethroned by a prince supported by Qing.
Also, his favourite consort, lady Cho, had a son that she wanted to promote to the throne, so she conspired and drove whisper campaigns against the crown prince, having constant access to the king's ear.
This is all according to the drama, not real history.

No.
Understandable. But I'm sorry, I took your answer as referring to "this" as in "part 1", I'm now realising. Otherwise, the answer is yes. It happens in part 2, very off screen. Nothing is shown, only mentioned.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

I loved this, but the romance was boring. Somewhat better than the original, though, I have to say.
Sorry, there's nothing sweeping or epic about two people constantly failing to communicate.

Well, I finished it yesterday and wanted to rant and didn't have to, all thanks to you <3
But this one was about completely fictional characters, I presume so they could do what they wanted with the story, so historical accuracy is the least of its problems.

Yes to all of this. I ff'ed the romance scenes too. Became kinda interesting when the queen found out, but then back into inexplicably exchanging vows and dedicating their lives to each other for no apparent reason.
I agree about the ending. They all turned stupid, bad and good guys alike.
Frustrating and disappointing.
