On The Loyal Pin Oct 30, 2024
I'm not gonna lie. Freen's acting ability is kinda still same. Not saying it's bad but I feel like it's average. Her only strongest point is eyes-acting. Becky has improved a lot, and that's undeniable. In my opinion, Becky has surpassed herself in every episode. I'm sure she will be one of best actresses in the future for Thai industry. She went from bad acting in Gap to average acting in Uranus2324 to amazing acting in Loyal Pin. However, Prik and Pia keeps me sane. Anin and Pin are getting more repetitive for me. I still love Anin but it's hard to sympathize with her when she has been so outwardly reckless throughout the series. She got what she deserved..maybe it's a turning point for her character development. Pin is kinda annoying, she's just all talks and no actions. I understand the trauma she has, but I don't see that she's trying to help herself. She just keep letting Anin to do everything without contributing her efforts to it. Sure, she has abandonment issues but she has separation anxiety as well. If she wants to keep Anin in her life, why can't she do something about it? Why she has to wait for Anin to come to her? (Privileged or not, can't she do something at least?) From my understanding, I think she just want a easy way out. Marry Kuea and stay with him at Lotus palace then come out to see Anin at Pine palace. Well, sure.

Review GAP
While I personally struggled with the unending drama in GAP, I found myself puzzled by a lot of your comments…
It's also a huge hit in Thailand. FreenBecky are now more popular than all of BL ships this year. But this series is culturally aimed for Thai audience (using typical thai nuances, narratives, quality and thai way of resolving things). Melodrama feels too Thai as well. Final ep got 0.6 which is actually above average number of ratings for late night show like Gap the series (late night shows usually get 0.1). I don't know these ratings work but thai fan told me 0.6 is 0.6 million views based on television live views? I wouldn't suprised that thai audience felt connected with them.

To be honest, I am glad, that there will be no season 2, because the novel cotinues differently than how this…
Yes, Becky confirmed it about 'i love you" part and "teerak" as well. She moaned it after she said "i love you." They weren't in the script. She didn't even realise it. She was embarrassed and blushed so hard on live 😂 Director had to yell, "cut!" several times but FreenBecky still continued. Seriously, they literally did all love scenes without any discussion, rehearsal, practice or choreography. I'm shocked. They should work as love scenes choreographers for future wlw series.

Both of novels sucks. It's so embarrassing and fairly shameful for a lesbian writer like her when an uninterested scriptwriter did a better job.

I finished this, and i have to say that i did enjoy it but i wish idolfactory made more eps to explain characters' actions. They also had same problem with SCOY the series. I respect this series because Saint risked for it by using all of his expenses and life savings alongside with his mother's life savings (she wanted to support him). He was also very cautious with actresses and love scenes. He made sure that only people involved to be in the area to a minimum on the set and to make sure that cameraworks were comfortable for actresses. FreenBecky are good at depicting love scenes. They improvised everything on their own. This series has defied the way lakorn would usually portray these tropes in gap the series such as top/bottom, villainous grandma, cold boss, employer etc. I feel like this series is too cultural, very understandable by thai viewers. I watched their reactions. They were naturally articulative and immediately understood plotlines but it's confusing for many interfans. I've been watching lakorns and i understood gap the series. Still, I have to admit that FreenBecky should've gotten better project. They announced that there'll be no 2nd season for gap the series but a different series for FreenBecky with hopefully better plotlines.

Another criticism is that this series felt like more of Mon's biographical diary rather than MonSam's relationship. It focuses on her mainly and even in ep10-12, it may focus on Sam's perspective but still, Mon was influential enough to make us forget about Sam's perspective. Sometimes, it felt like Sam was a supporting character in few eps. If there were at least 18 eps, they would've helped the majority of audience to understand Sam better. I can't blame scriptwriter. She might didn't enjoy author's novel and wasn't too invested in scriptwriting of it. It also felt like she changed traits in both Mon and Sam to smoothen their dynamics. Budget was also too small and what they have done with the series is for the best as possible as they can.

I’ll have to ask my Thai friend about that, because I was curious about that rule/law as well. I wouldn’t…
I feel like budget was the main issue for them because there were no sponsers who didn't want to take a risk for GLs. Fortunately, Boss Saint had to use all of his own money which is even riskier. That's why Gap the series can seem less in the quality. But still, really impressive quality for this kind of budget. I think the company will definitely have sponsers next time because FreenBecky became more popular. Or maybe, FreenBecky will appear in project by different company despite the fact that they are in idolfactory just like BillySeng (previous BL ship under same company but also undertook another project by different company).

Nah, i understand what do you mean. I'm actually appreciating the improvements they made from the novel because initially, i had no hopes for it since i didn't like the novel much. I didn't have high expectationsdue to messy writing in the novel. I also thought it'll be a failure. But series exceeded my expectations. So yeah, it would feel like I'm giving them more credits than they deserve.

I highly doubt this series will have a second season after the company's somewhat negative experience with author. They also had to change many things from the novel. Series make more sense and is better but yeah, novel does have messy writing. But this series is actually pretty average for thai scriptwriting. However, Freenbecky implied different roles for them in next project (they haven't revealed it yet). It seems like we aren't getting a second season for this series because of author.

Actually, this series also pushed the importance of marriage equality on thai viewers. That's also one of their aims. It's a good thing in my opinion because most BLs doesn't even try to do that and they also doesn't focus on lgbt issues. It even took forever for BLs to say, "i like men" after years of "i dont like men, but i like one man" trope. It was annoying. Something like that. But Gap the series didn't do it. I think it's a good step. Adding standards for the future of GLs. We don't need same suffering we had from older BLs.

Sam's situation is a true representation of many queer asians. Many of us are trapped in Sam's place, we're super family-orientated and it's hard for us to leave the family. Besides that, Grandma wouldn't leave Mon alone so Sam negotiated with her. You didn't pay attention to it. Also, Sam suffered from "trauma bonding", had grandma as only parental figure and adopted Grandma's toxic persona. It distorted her personality in many ways and led to emotional immaturity. Sam isn't exactly male prototypical lead character which is stupid and unrealistic myth of asian romance. Sam's situation resulted in coldness, domineering attitude, trust issues, lack of social skills, being vulnerable to emotional manipulations, bitterness, struggling to express and festered emotions. She's trying so hard to get better as a person and it's not that simple for her. She's smart enough to reach out to her sister.

Kirk is a representation of "nice guy syndrome." He views the world in a meritocratic way, and would do anything to earn "goodness." That goodness is provided by an authority figure who is grandma, a representation of the closeminded society.

If you're looking for sanitized GL, GAP novel really isn't for you. They removed a lot of content for the adaptation…
Don't worry, series is 100 times better than novel but still have stupid plotlines created by the novel. Sam was much meaner and colder in the novel. Mon was more naive in the novel. Now, series has softened Sam and made Mon smarter and little playful. It's not perfect but chemistry is off charts.

Love scenes are well shot and surprisingly sensual; mainly based on female gaze. Gentle cameraworks. All of them are improvised by actresses.

Interfans are waking up finally after author published some chapter of book 2. She got bashed lmao. Itchy scene is deleted thanks to thai lesbian community. I'm glad they got the voice.

"Itchy scene" is actually homophobic joke according to Thai lesbian community. Chao was too excited for it because it's her fav part. Interfans, like us, have no right to disconsider thai lesbians.

She romanticized SA, power imbalance, stepsisters in love etc. She wrote 2 het novels before yuri ones. They also romanticized r*pe and SA.

Dude. Thai lesbian community praised that male director for considering female gaze into account because he and the producer took criticisms well based on pilot trailers and even consulted with academics and the community to change the direction of camera. Although it's not 100% perfect, it's still better than 99% of lesbian films by male directors.

You're literally defending a butch lesbian who is well-known for bad reputation in Thai lesbian community for 5 years. Even thai lesbians doesn't like her works. Thai GL writers spoke against Gap's author but it was too late to change the novel. Chao literally anticipated for homophobic joke the most in pilot trailer and she loved it until she saw criticisms. She ran way and put all blame on the production team. She didn't even change. People exposed her works for years!

Yes, i can write better novels than Chao can. Anyone can.

This 9th episode explained a lot about their relationship. I didn't read the novel and so was expecting them to…
Finally, sensible comment. I was annoyed by people's lack of understanding and they aren't paying attention to certain details. Mon and Sam definitely never had a relationship before they dated. Mon was unconsciously in love with Sam, thinking it's a idolization (somewhat common queer experience in Asia). There's many young women who thought they want to be like someone while getting close to her then realized it's not idolization after few years. Mon discovering her feelings and developing stronger feelings, is absolutely necessary journey. Sam may be aware of lesbianism because of her butch friend and dead sister. But it doesn't mean she experienced it. She was always closed off that she didn't let her feel deeply so it left her a lack of awareness. She isn't used to the intensity of emotions and obviously would react in a wrong away. She will be always in "child phase." It's her trauma response. She was never get to be child and it distorted her personality.

Mon came from middle class which is still a big deal in Thailand. Westerners don't understand this case of class insecurity. She may be more direct than Sam, but she also have a difficulty to open up. She's observant before taking an action. That's why she takes a long time to make decisions and coming to conclusions.

It's more of habitual. Almost everyone calls her hon. Or khun. Cuz its a royal rank. I don't think it's formality or something. It did have lots of moments where informality was obvious.

"I think it made for guys that bored and want to see 2 girl making out or gonna making out."

"weird scene of two of them on the bed doing nothing"

Contradiction. Most people already said that that bed scene is a good example of female gaze. Even popular sapphic youtuber who often investigate male gaze, also liked it and that night scene. Storylines are probably questionable but intimate scenes are truly well done and portrayed in a gentle way. I think you're not used to the sensuality.

I think peoole have too high expectations for these characters. Mon always had a rigid moral compass which was super obvious from the beginning and even specifically pointed Kirk out before confessing that she likes Sam in ep 7. When she was drunk, she opened up at the wrong time. This is the first time that Mon is experiencing moral confliction since Sam is engaged. Rememer that Sam isn't the only one who has a difficulty to open up about herself. Mon has that difficulty too. In fact, she's not a naive person at all. She is awfully smart and can smoothly lie. She would easily fool many people irl.

Sam has trust issues, why would she "suddenly" change into a better person overnight? Ep8 is a perfect depiction of human nature. Everyone is a red flag in that episode just like the reality. Mon is wrong. Sam is wrong. Kirk is wrong. Employees are wrong. Nop is wrong. There is no perfect character in the series.

I don't like how people keep on focusing on KS and not caring much about Mon. She is a complex character herself,…
Mon being given the handbook is still not enough because she needs to experience it first so she would understand the direction of why the handbook suggests in that way. She is that sort of person Sam needed in her life. She has rare traits of patience, tolerance and accommodation but she still doesn't let her self-respect down. We can be honest that nobody can easily survive with Sam but only Mon can handle with her. I'd say Sam is a luckier person to have someone like Mon. Mon may be sensitive or emotional but she is not weak at all unlike Sam. She's more settled as a person with rigid moral compass. She has inferiority complex and insecurities, which is normal. She is still young, inexperienced in the adult world, social world and relationship because she's just 2 years into the 20s. She can't completely lower her expectations and needs to "slowly" accept Sam. She should be more selfish in my opinion. That's why she needs to be stop being too nice to people.

Idolization is just a layered component of her attraction to Sam. She didn't want to be like her, but wanted her. She realized that she likes Sam but truly developed feelings for Sam, imperfect version of her. It doesn't mean Mon is not imperfect at all. She is also flawed as Sam. It's hilarious to see people acting like Mon's situation is simple. Just trash yourself and submit to Sam, even accepting her toxic behaviors she adopted from her grandma. No, Mon can't do that. She has to express herself and it's okay to place expectations in the relationship otherwise there is no development. Sam need to face consequences of her actions and realize that grandma is not the correct parental figure. She has to discover who she is, uncovering festered feelings and trauma. Mon's situation is even worse, coming into Sam's life at crucial time and has to be patient. She needs to face Kirk, Nita, Grandma and all of gossips by coworkers at the young age. She has a good strength despite being emotional, i mean she was the only one who tried to communicate with Sam after the wedding. She tried calling her and did everything but Sam ignored her. She got lots of guts as compared to the average population. She is complicated because her actions are sometimes ambigious. She often play double games from what I've noticed, and isn't actually that different from Sam. She doesn't fully open up to Sam although she can be consistent with the she express herself. She does have a communication issue like her. I don't understand why she has to be selfless all the time?
