Parallel World from the Future
On Kim Hye Yoon May 20, 2024
Person Kim Hye Yoon
Kim Hye Yoon's way of pronouncing Sunjae with affection every single time in the entire series, even though she's angry or worried or shouting, is just sooooooo lovely. There's a mix of an affection for a little kid (since she's technically older than Sunjae in the past) + romantic feelings (that you only want to care for them and not let them get hurt).

How did she even do that? Every single time she said “Sunjae”, it was so filled with emotions: love, care, “I always think about you”, of someone older, of someone who's romantically in love. It's just so perfect.

This is why Hye Yoon is one of those I always wait for. She's a great actor. She can show on her face the many emotions of a human being, and she can capture in her voice those very same emotions. She can mix them too, and it's a very sweet to hear. Even if you close your eyes, you can picture what she's saying.

Yep. She erased everything. She's the only one who remembers.
Yep. The pitfall of time travel plots.

It's no different from those stories where in the end, the character woke up from a dream. Like W.T.F.?!! Hahahah.

I mean, if they pegged this as sci-fi, like Star Trek, Andromeda, TimeCop, etc., then it wouldn't be disappointing if timelines changed. Even so, in those sci-fi, whenever they touch on changing the timeline, it was often because they need to reset it back to how it was originally, or, to stop an enemy. It was not focused on relationships, especially a romantic one, thus, it is not disappointing.

But using timetravel reset in this way, expect the audience/reader to be disappointed. After leading everyone to a happy, feel-good romance, poof, gone, just like that.

Hahahaha.

I sure hope they redeem the situation in some way or another.

There are still either 1 or 2 tries left, if Im Sol only used 1. Maybe she'll give the watch to him or something and through it, he'll remember the other timelines?

Episode 13 was a "I need to turn my brain off" moment because a lot of thing didn't make sense:-The fact she could…
> -The fact she could set the exact date of their first encounter don't make sense. It was somewhat random before but also around the time she get attacked by creepy guy.

The time period is based on what the person was thinking/desire when they pressed the wristwatch. In all of Im Sol's time travel, She was always thinking about a particular incident which corresponds to a particular time.

> -Even if she negate this encounter, they are literally neighbor. I can believe their path never crossed after that and he wouldn't simp all over her again.

True. However, the reason they got closer together than in the original timeline was because of Im Sol traveling back. In the original timeline, Sunjae only had a crush on her but never acted on it. He watched from a distance as Im Sol drools for Taesung. Sol and Sunjae never had any interaction in the original timeline other than as schoolmates.

> -She negated all of her previous time travel by going back at a time that was previous to them. So why only Sunjae was affected ? Why she still have her legs ? Why her best friend still with her brother ? It would imply that she still did all of her previous time travel without Sunjae as her goal. But he was the trigger to everything.

She already knew how to change things and which changes are needed to get the outcome she wanted.

For example, that lottery. It is highly possible she did that again in the new timeline, and probably set her brother and bestie to end up together. Just the right push, they're guaranteed to be together.

About her legs, there were three reasons that “time” itself used to make sure she gets paralysed from the waist down:
1. Fall from the bridge
2. Crossing accident
3. Her fear of crossing the street (her counting was off so she crossed when she shouldn't)

At this point, her 4th try (or probably 5th or 6th), and well, as a future version, she conquered all of those. (1) She more likely made sure she won't fall off the bridge, if that encounter still happened. (2) She made sure it is safe to cross. (3) She stopped counting.

wait what about her legs if sunjae didnot know her how did she survived from the culprit
Since she got 3 more tries, I think she finally knew which things to change that can lead to the outcome that she wants.

So, quite possibly, she avoided the bridge, or made sure she won't fall. Also, she learned to be more attentive around her surroundings so she won't accidentally cross. More likely also stopped counting before crossing… which means she conquered her fear of crossing the street. All those reasons were the ones “time” used to make sure she gets paralysed waist down. But she finally conquered all of it.

Not sure if she used all her 3 additional tries. Definitely the first try was that, not to meet Sunjae. The other two… either she used all up to make sure she doesn't get into an accident, or she still has one or two tries left.

In the last scene of Ep.10, it so sad that all his team mates die.. :( like whyyyyy.. and how did they die...and…
It was a tribute. The original actors for those characters passed away 10-20 years ago. The old version of Detective Park was the same actor who played the role in the original series set in 1971.

All four of them have been together for 800+ episodes.

Not to mention, the two ex-criminals in the finale episode of Chief Detective 1958, they were also the same actors for the same role in the original series (the 800+ episode set in 1971).

As a tribute to the other 3 actors who already passed away, they matched the story.

the all ten episode is 10/10 but the last 20 minutes is 1000000I cried so hard 🥺😭😭😭 he was left alone
It also matches their real life as actors. Legendary actor Choi Bool Am is one of four main actors of the original. The other three actors passed away 10-20 years ago.

So, yeah, both fictional and real life, “he was left alone”.

I had to go to the cast list and check the names again as old Young Han was calling the names on the graves lol.…
Yep, those were also tributes to the original actors who passed away 10-20 years ago.

It's why the last episode is very touching, especially when the two “former criminals” ate with and cried when they met the detective.

That was a two-fold scene.
First: The story of course. A long time passed.
Second: Tribute. The actors for the old version of the two criminals in this 1958 storyline are the same actors in the original 1971 show.

That scene where they had a reunion and they cried, was also a reminiscing of their huge success when they did the original 1971 show that took 800+ episodes. Yep, 800+ episodes, that was how huge of a success it was.

Thus, imagine, reaching their age right now, 2024 but without the other actors they've been with during their 800 episode stint. Even if they weren't acting, it is indeed something to cry for. They've been together that long, and they were given a chance to reprise their roles even for s short while.

Then the graveyard scene. I can't even imagine legendary actor Choi Bool Am separating himself as an actor from his original character Detective Park, when the three other main actors who he was with in the original story, are no longer with us for 10-20 years now.

It's so hard to separate your character from real life when the fictional characters matches the real life. And again, imagine 800+ episodes. All four of them have been together for 800+ episodes.

That last episode was the perfect tribute. In fact, the whole series is a tribute to them all.

Or some trauma. In ep 38 there is a flashback of someone trying to feed her a rice ball. It's at 27:43.
It is definitely because of a traumatic experience.

1. As a little, running outside looking for her mother thinking she abandoned you, can be a traumatic experience.

Thus, all good memories about her mother were blocked by her brain in an act of self-preservation. Otherwise, she wouldn't survive the devastation of her new reality.

This includes her mother feeding her her favourite food. That good memory associated with that particular rice cake, with a unique flavour that only her mother makes, turned into a nightmare.

Since recently her memories are starting to resurface, she has no idea how to react and what to do with those memories. And since those good memories turned into nightmares, she is consciously avoiding those memories instead of looking into those deeper.

So, yes, trauma.

2. Food allergy is possible as well.

Although, at least as of E39, her memories of her mother feeding her that particular food points that it was not an allergy. They implied that it was her mother's signature rice cake, and they both love eating it together.

It was their happy moment. Their bonding moment. The most precious. Those moments were when all their hormones were in maximum production, thus, they created a very strong bond.

Unfortunately, due to No.1 reason stated above, those memories turned into a nightmare. Her hormones are no longer producing whenever she remembers anything related to her mother, especially their “just the two of us” moments.

Not dismissing food allergy, it's still possible, but so far, the possibility seems to be very low.

3. Self-induced trauma

There are people who are capable of self-induced trauma. They can trigger their brain's self-preservation mode, thus, allowing them to block memories as traumatic.

Although, with the way she's reacting to these “new” memories (‘new’ as far as her adult self is concerned), it doesn't appear to be a self-induced trauma. Also, as a kid, she wouldn't have any control or know-how how to do it.

So, it more likely is a natural defense mechanism by her brain. Her extreme distress when she was a little kid prompted her brain to go self-preservation mode.

^_^
