As far as affecting the shows because of ratings on some non-Korean site, I doubt it will have any effect.
For example, shows and genres that are often bashed here on MDL are popular in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, to mention a few.
What's happening is that: 1. MDL is not a choice, if not unknown, in those countries. 2. People leave negative/low comments/ratings more than they do with positive/high.
