I rewatched that scene multiple times. It was so powerful. The entire desire of the ghost to live was summed up…
I totally agree! She needs a movie where she can showcase her talents. Every genre and role she tried, she excelled at, it's about time to bring those back to full length movies, especially since that's where she started. She grew since her first movie, I can't even imagine what she'll be able to do.
She does have Alienoid, but it was more about the story than showcasing her many talents. She needs another Handmaiden film where she's the focus.
Her agency needs to find a writer that can do that for her. Like for IU's “Hotel del Luna”, it was not so much about the story, it was a showcase of IU's beauty and talent as an actor. Tae Ri needs that, but for a movie, to showcase who she is today.
I rewatched that scene multiple times. It was so powerful. The entire desire of the ghost to live was summed up…
Yep. It's why I'm thinking she her theater acting was a great help, I'm suspecting she didn't have to do method acting (if she was taught how to do it) and simply pulled from her theater experience.
In theater acting, you need to have a solid and loud voice, good expressions, and expressive movements so the audience can clearly see and hear, without overdoing it. And it in case you need to switch characters or emotions, it's also easier because you're not wearing the character.
Not like in method acting, you have to wear the character and forget you were simply acting.

Yep, there were cases of method acting that went too far, some took a psychological toll. I suddenly remember Emma Watson in one Harry Potter scene. If I remember the article correctly, she was not satisfied with their first takes, so she did method acting. Their director was against it and was already fine with what they have. But Emma pushed for one last take.
The result was so realistic, everyone, including her fellow actors, were scared of her, the director immediately called cut even though it was not yet their agreed length for the scene.
They thought Emma has gone overboard. Emma said that she was in control but that she understands. They eventually used that scene.
I guess it's fine if method acting is used for anything but psychological thrillers, gothic, suspense, horror. Otherwise, if one loses control…
You are right, Kim Tae Ri can deliver without using method acting. I guess her real self being jolly is also a factor? It allowed her to take those ghost scenes without losing herself because of her happy nature. At least from her interviews, she's always laughing and enjoying herself.
Then again… not everyone who laughs… ahh, let's not go there. Tae Ri is just a superb, highly talented actor. The type that is born once a century. ^_^
I rewatched that scene multiple times. It was so powerful. The entire desire of the ghost to live was summed up…
Yep, it does look like method acting. Theater acting and method acting have overlaps, the difference mainly is the former the actor doesn't have to embody the character, allowing them to shift characters like in Kim Tae Ri's case.
I'm no expert of course. Only based on what I've read and what I've observed. (And method acting is frowned upon, especially in scenes like this, the staff gets scared or the actor fails to get out of their character.)
But Kim Tae Ri, yeah, she showed full control. Super crazy.
When her real character returned to her body, Tae Ri was still crying, showing the emotion of the character pitying the ghost, having fully understood the ghost. Yet her face was different, back to being San Young.
I wish they release the behind-the-scenes, I am super curious how they filmed that scene and how many takes they did. It must have been exhausting for Tae Ri.
The jade pin Hyangi used to stab the shaman, that was her way to possess the body of San Young. Hyangi knew it,…
Yep.
Although that bit is unclear. We can only assume that it became an object to possess a body because she used it to kill the powerful shaman.
Then when she became a vengeful ghost, she realised the importance of it, and waited patiently for a good host.
Don't worry if it was confusing, because that broken jade pin was only added at the last part with not much explanation. If I remember correctly, the only explanation they offered was the professor realising it belonged to the shaman, so it can not be the real 5th object.
It’s not free per se, but it’s on Netflix. Idk why they didn’t list that here.
I'm not the one who started it. It was him who asked, and I replied jokingly and he started to accused me.
This is his exact wording: “Sad you don’t want to support the project through official platforms. Oh well.”
That is an accusation. There's a difference between “you don't want to support” and “can't support”.
If the latter is what he said, I wouldn't have defended myself. But that was not the case. He blatantly accused me of not wanting to support the project, “you don't want to”.
And let's not forget he ended it with “oh well”.
Take note, this was my reply, word-for-word:
--- No one is using Netflix here, so no one have the links. Hahaha :P
Since you know it is available on Netflix, then submit those links so it'll be added. ^_^ ---
And I got an accusatory reply that I “don't want to support” them. So… I'll defend myself if I'm being accused of something.
The jade pin Hyangi used to stab the shaman, that was her way to possess the body of San Young. Hyangi knew it,…
It's the finger, that's the correct 5th object. Burning it was the last step. It's like a symbolism for the only remaining part of her body that has not decomposed.
The first 4 objects had to be placed on where her previous victims died. The 5th object, the last remaining not-yet-decomposed part of her body, needs to be burned to complete the process.
After her finger burned, it cut off her connection to the physical world and sealed/freed her spirit (it is unsure if she was sealed or released from the curse).
It’s not free per se, but it’s on Netflix. Idk why they didn’t list that here.
Let me ask you:
I have a sub for Viu. I have a sub for iQIYI I have a sub for Disney+
I watch most shows on those three platforms alone.
Do I have to sub for Netflix too for just one show?
And who are you to judge and look down on others?
If you are so capable of having subs for every single platform out there, why don't you pay for our accounts? Because you see, as much as we want to pay for a sub for every single OTT server out there, we are not rich like you who can do that.
Next time, if you have nothing better to say, just keep it shut. Okay?
Once again, Kim Tae Ri has proven why she's a Rank 1 actor. Special mention was her portrayal of the ghost desperate…
I played that scene multiple times because I can't get enough of the out of this world acting by Kim Tae Ri. I felt compassion on the ghost in that scene. She only wanted to live because she was wronged when she was still alive. And her very strong desire to live, by trying to fight back San Young (Tae Ri's character), was delivered by Tae Ri in a very powerful way. I think Tae Ri's theater acting training and exposure greatly helped her at that moment. She knew how to act the ghost's desires and desperation to live without overdoing it.
Of course, I also commend the director and the cameraman for perfectly capturing that moment, up close and personal. It magnified what Tae Ri wants the audience to feel: this ghost, she was a victim, while it doesn't justify the ghost's murders, it is us humans who turned her that way.
Which is true. Many of humans only think of their own desires and greed, and doesn't care if another human being turn evil because of their actions and words. Yes, we cannot blame others for our own actions, but we also cannot deny the fact that we are who we are because of our experiences.
For me, the moral of this story is that we should always strive to do good. If you truly want to be selfish, then keep your mouth shut instead of speaking hurtful words behind other people's backs. For example, San Young realised how she was killing herself in the final episode because of how people said hurtful words, like that scene with the convenient store manager. If one did not notice, Tae Ri showed her "evil face" at that time, and she was not yet influenced by the ghost then.
Many of us probably reacted that way too after hearing hurtful words from people. Our faces probably showed how we want "kill" them for looking down on us as if us struggling in life was our fault (when it was just what we're given). Or, like it was a sin to have been born in that situation. And that moment was when San Young, without her knowledge until the final episode, that she started to slowly kill herself.
I've been there, too, without me realising what I'm doing. You gave up. You just try to live every day, but you no longer have any desire to live. You are just waiting for death to collect you, and you'll even welcome death with open arms. And the ghost that possessed San Young, she was right. San Young was wasting her life, and she (the ghost) wants to live.
The show may have been about ghosts and suicide. But if we look deeper into it, it is sending us a message that we should strive to live no matter what. Why? Because there were people whose lives ended not out of their own will, rather, they were forced to it. They were victims.
So, to you and me, this show is a strong and powerful message. Fight to live. It is hard. I know, I am struggling myself. I want to give up. I had enough of this life. But, let's fight to live another day. Let's show this world, let's show this evil society that we have today, that we can. If we know people whose lives ended early, either through suicide or they were murdered, let's live for them. They have desires and dreams, let's live for them, and maybe, through us, our society will become better.
Kim Tae Ri's acting in this series was just superior, everything was amazing but my favorite acting scene was…
I rewatched that scene multiple times. It was so powerful. The entire desire of the ghost to live was summed up in that scene. How the ghost was only a victim, and she wants to have another go at life.
I think Kim Tae Ri's theater training and acting was a great help for her for that scene. She was able to deliver a theater type acting. Strong and loud voice, intense focus, precise movements, and appropriate facial expressions.
Theater acting is so different with TV/film acting. Yet for that scene, she was full on theater. It was not method acting, there were no signs of it. She was full theater actor mode, not internalizing a fictional character. And that's what makes Kim Tae Ri so amazing. She doesn't need to be the character, she can deliver it without being the character.
That's what made that scene so powerful. Because she was just theater acting, she was able to deliver it powerfully without overdoing it.
I also applaud the director and the cameraman who captured those scenes. They did not do a continous shot, so imagine the work they did to capture those amazing scenes. They did not waste Tae Ri's theater acting skills.
They all deserve to receive all the awards for 2023.
What about other plot holes? Why did she kill so many people?
She's a vengeful ghost.
1. She kills if it is the wish of her host. 2. She just wants to kill because she wants to. She's a victim when she was alive, and her sister was murdered in front of her.
so how hyangi took over san yong's body once they found the 5 objects correctly and the shaman told hae sang's…
The jade pin Hyangi used to stab the shaman, that was her way to possess the body of San Young. Hyangi knew it, at least after she became a vengeful ghost, and waited patiently to find a host she likes and someone who can find her missing body.
Hyangi, having found a host she likes and a person who she can manipulate to find the objects, led them to believe that the 5th object was the broken jade pin.
San Young's suspicion was right, however, they didn't realise that the 5th object (broken jade pin) was wrong, or rather, a bridge to possess her host directly.
The grandmother had no idea about the broken jade pin.
Once again, Kim Tae Ri has proven why she's a Rank 1 actor. Special mention was her portrayal of the ghost desperate to live yet Tae Ri's character was forcing her to burn the final key object to banish the spirit.
…
Thank you, Kim Tae Ri, to the cast, the staff, the director, the writer, for this very timely story and message. I hope you'll win awards for this, you 100% deserve to grab all the awards.
And her character's “clients” are big stars, too. Simply amazing.
