Title The Interest of Love Spoiler
Wow. That was a brilliant way to close everything and start anew. Well done 1FL.Even me, I did not catch she was…
It's hard to predict.

In real life, more likely they won't see each other again. Maybe 5 to 10 years later, their paths will cross, and they'll say their hi's and hello's, but one or both are married. If both are not married, perhaps they will rekindle their feelings and commit.

In real life, the 1ML missed the opportunity to find her when he did not ask the movers; or followed them. Since he already suspected she's gone, he should've had asked the movers for information before running upstairs.

Because, IRL, if someone doesn't want to be found, if someone wants to cut all their connections and start anew, it's almost a guarantee no one will find that person again.

But, in fiction, there's always a way.

I'm thinking the 1FL went back to her home province, with her parents. She has forgiven herself and, I have no doubt, she finally forgave her father. They can all start anew as one happy family. They've lost years as a family.

Another possibility is, she did not go home, rather, moved to a different city and to a new job. Something during her interview made her realised that the bank will never give her an opportunity to move up. Her move to another branch, at least from how I understood it, was only lateral. She could've become a supervisor at least, but they did not give it to her. Moving her to a new branch, and only a lateral movement, did it for her. It was probably what pushed her to finally resign.

And, even in Korea, there are companies who wouldn't limit opportunities just because they are not degree holders. She probably found the courage to explore outside of her comfort zone.

Lastly. More on the technical side, they will probably give them a happy ending. The 1ML will find where the 1FL is, and the 1FL will be happy because the 1ML made the effort.

After all, the 1FL had issues about trusting men in general. The 2ML, which I suspect she chose, ended up not being the right guy, which led to her finally breaking down (the crying+umbrella scene).

She is probably still having a few more doubts about the 1ML, after all, he hesitated in their first dinner date (ep1 and 2).

“How far can he last?”
“What's his breaking point, if he has one?”
“Is he going to give up eventually if I just disappear?”

So, if he shows up at her doorsteps… her last few doubts about him would be settled.

“He's the guy.”
“I can finally give my entire being to someone, like my mother to my father.”

Personally, it's hard to decide. I want an ending based on real life possibilities. But, at the same time, I also want to feel good when it ends.

Maybe, they can do a time jump, their paths crossed again after 10 years and they rekindled their relationship. But, then again, that's a common trope, hehe.

Thank you very much.

Yes, I agree, this show is deep, and there are much to learn from each of the characters.

Episode 14.
Wow. That was a brilliant way to close everything and start anew. Well done 1FL.

Even me, I did not catch she was saying goodbye. Though, I agree with one of the employees, something was off with her.

Good editing. They were able to show that she is leaving her apartment, but made it appear she was only doing so because she was transferred elsewhere. They also had a scene with her father wherein she said she did not mean that they go back to their home province.

I love the contrast in the 1FL's change of character.

In last week's episodes, 11 and 12, they revealed how the 1FL is a deep person, and uses the surrounding objects to send across the words she can not say. For example, the castle. And when the 1FL told the 1ML that she is feeling cold and if he can buy her a warm drink.

The 1ML, and I, knew she was going to leave.

In episode 14, it's the same method, but from a different approach.

You see, before she was coming from a painful, sad, experience. A person dwelling in the past (her father, her brother). She expressed herself in deep metaphors from that “negative” experiences.

This time, she had a changed of personality. She did the same method, using things around her, metaphors, and other deep philosophical conversations that seem to be random. But, she's happy. She is content. She became one with her reality. There were no longer any burden on her shoulders. The dark cloud hovering over her disappeared.

Because of this change, her secretly closing up things and saying goodbye went unnoticed. The characters, and the audience, saw the positive changes in her instead of seeing the signs that she was wrapping her relationships (work and otherwise).

“This time, I will see you off.” Definitely a clue. But even me missed that.

It was because of this change in her that made her say 'hopeful' things. For example, “you always call even when I don't ask you to”, which sends the message that, “hey, just call whenever you want”. Or, when she said, “you always come even when I don't want you to”, which was like saying, “you know where to find me”.

If she was the old 1FL, she would've said something about “destroying the castle” or “I'm feeling cold, could you buy me a warm drink”. But since she's more positive, she also said positive and hopeful words.

Though in reality, what she actually meant was… listen to this song (you'll probably cry, but you'll understand what the 1FL did), it captures the 1FL's positive 'Farewell': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlB1LuVtOsU

Last, but not the least, the 2ML.

If he only listened to 1FL that they will talk after work, they probably still had a chance to continue their relationship.

Again, the 1FL is a broken person, and she's afraid to face that reality. (That's why she destroys the castles she built, instead of letting others do it.)

Her plan, no doubt, was to keep the 1ML away. Unfortunately, things got complicated because the 2ML called her phone, and the 2ML created a drama when she told him “later”.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if the 1FL chose the 2ML at that point. Thus, when they had their final confrontation, and the 2ML told her she's a "bitch”, that completely destroyed all her walls. Which led to her finally facing her reality and embracing it.

Why did I say that? Because, being with the 1ML is making her feel a cheater, like the father she hates. Her plan was for the 1ML to stop pursuing her, not for the 2ML.

But, it's better in the long run. Why? Because the 1FL now knows the true character of the 2ML.

The 2ML clearly have deep issues. When he felt betrayed, he lashed out without any control. Somewhere in his history, he witnessed something very bad, and it brought back those memories.

He even said, “I shouldn't have done it”. That was because the 2ML is having an internal battle. He was sorry, I do believe it was genuine. But, whatever his dark past was, it is having a battle with his positive/hopeful side.

But, when the 1FL still said it is true, that she did sleep with someone else, the 2ML lost it and said the worst thing that can be said.

Trust me, the 2ML will be tortured by what he said later on (at least in real life). I also suspect he knew the 1FL was faking it. Because the 1FL isn't that type of person. She held herself high despite people around her whispering behind her back. And then, just like that, she slept with someone? Not just someone, but a co-employee?

That definitely is super out-of-character. People who truly know the 1FL would suspect it was all a ruse for something. I actually suspect the 2FL also suspected it was fake.

For the 2ML, when the 1FL continued with her lie, it came across to him as “she wants to break up with me, but can not do it the NICE way”. So, he lost himself and said, "bitch”.

Now, let's see what episode 14 is about. ^_^

Let's talk about the 2FL for a bit.

Why did she smile before she left?

Most would probably think she was just trying to save face, after all, she was dumped. She's wealthy. Her family is powerful. Her father is scary. Her family's entire wealth will go to her one day. But, here's a guy, a poor guy at that, who she gave herself over, and will give the world for him…

He dumped her, and was very sincere about it.

Of course, who wouldn't want to smile after that and pretend to be strong, right?

But, you see, she did not smile because of that. That is not her character. She smiled because she also felt the burden lifted.

Seriously, who can smile when they were dumped? Even if you want to save face, you only do that when there are people around. You do not need to save face in front of the person who broke up with you, especially when it's just the two of you. You just cry, and have one last final attempt of making them change their mind. Or, to at least make them feel really bad. You'll take their pity, if that is what it takes to be with them.

But to smile?

So, why did she throw a rock on the car she gave him?

That was her way of closing everything. Her way of cutting herself from that relationship.

That car represents her desire to win him, which failed. By throwing a rock against it, she symbolically released herself from it. That is the acceptance and embracing on her part. Which led to her forgiving herself. Which of course will lead to moving on.

Let's talk about the 1ML.

When the 1ML finally opened up to 2FL, and he cried? Some are probably asking, “why”. Simple. He was hurt too. His hurt is probably not because “he broke up with someone he loves”. His hurt is more likely coming from the fact that he finally admitted he was wrong, and realised how bad, bordering evil, the things he did to such a wonderful person as the 2FL.

It also broke his principles. Maybe he told himself all the years of his life that he'll be a good person. People looked down on him at school because he was not as rich as any of his classmates. He burned his eyebrows just be the top of their class. His mother supported him.

Person like that grow up with principles that they hold dear. But, once they realise they broke their own principles, principles they held for dear life, it damn hurts deeply. Think of it this way. For a person like him, it was as if he stabbed a knife to his heart. It feels like, “I'm no different from those people who looked down on us”.

But here's the thing about the 1ML. FORGIVENESS again!

What? Forgiveness? Who did he forgive?

The answer is himself.

The first step in forgiveness is forgiving yourself. But what is the first step to forgiving yourself? Admission and embracing the reality.

That's what the 1ML did.

The result? He freed himself from the burden, as well as, he freed the 2FL.

The 2FL finally stopped. The 2FL finally accepted the reality. She knew and she understood that “this is it, it is over, not a chance”.

Best episode: 13!
As expected, 1FL wants to end things her way, on her own terms. That's what she's been doing her entire life, she's in control. However, as was shown in last week's episodes, she's in a journey. Remember when she talked to her father?

That “talk” was continued in episode 13, this time with her mother. About forgiveness. This is what she lacks, she doesn't know how to forgive.

You see, forgiveness is not only about the other person, in fact, forgiving someone is THE SECOND STEP. The FIRST STEP in forgiveness is forgiving yourself!

She can not forgive her father. She can not forgive the people who wronged her. It's all because she doesn't know how to forgive herself. She was probably blaming her 'luck' in life… her father cheated which caused the death of her brother, and everything went downhill with their family. She did not finish her studies, which led to being stuck where she is at despite being the star employee every single time.

Recall the scene in episode 13 when she blurted out against 1ML? “Why are you so indifferent?”, “Why are you not asking anything?” It was unnerving her.

All her life, she learned and saw everyone to be the same. They judge other people. They look down on other people. But, here's the 1ML, silently following her, doing nothing. It unnerved her. The 1ML doesn't match anything she learned in her life. The 1ML is no longer hesitating (ep1 and 2). He changed. It is making her uncomfortable.

Then the scene when 1ML told her “I will keep coming back”, “I will see you again tomorrow”. Those words, those sincerity from him, crushed half of her wall.

It was also brilliant for the 1ML to have waited in a different location. The 1ML really did change. He knew the 1FL will look for him that night, and he knew it is better for the 1FL not to see him.

He accomplished two things with that strategy:
1. He gave her space. If she saw him, she will rebuild her wall. She will get angry.

2. It gave her some semblance of stability. The thought in her mind is likely something like this: “Ahh, he's just the same, as any other guy. All words. He probably realised it's not worth it.”

The final scene. The 1ML showed up with an umbrella when 1FL was completely down. When the 1FL's walls are all finally destroyed.

At that moment, the 1FL realised how alone she truly is. How she's the one making her life miserable. How she's keeping everyone at arms length because of the hurt she felt when she discovered their father cheated (which also caused the death of her brother).

She was not able to truly move on from that moment of her life, when everything came crashing down around her. No one wants her anymore. The people she expected to be with her, are gone.

For example, the 2ML. She was still hoping that the 2ML would have a changed of heart. But, nope, 2ML even called her a “b*tch”. Now, that's the typical guy. A guy you definitely do not want to be in a relationship with.

Then 1ML showed up, with an umbrella.

That sent a thousand messages to her.

Wow! That's great news. It's been a while since the West produced a very "scifi-ey" TV series that wasn't cancelled after S1 or S2 (nor crappy). LOL.

So, I've been digging.

There is an on-going animated series, released December 2022 (15 episodes) based on Book 2.

Netflix is also going to premier their own version this year, 2023.

Finally caught up to episode 16!

Awesome series!

If you are familiar with physics, astronomy, mathematics, theories, you will recognise a lot of stuff used in this show. I'm not sure about the novel, so I'm only referring to the show.

* Some were asked before.
* Some are still being debated.
* Some still being proven.
* Some already possible mathematically.
* Some observed in real life.

The philosophical questions are also relevant, and many have been asked before, and many were recently asked.

I can't believe they were able to combine these different school of thoughts into one cohesive story. I haven't seen a story like this before. Usually, sci-fi authors would only focus, at most, 5 to keep it simpler for the audience, but in this show, it's out-of-this-world.

---

The animation part was also great. They combined two types of art, and that was amazing. Also, some would probably critic how the movement of the animated characters are not fluid, but that's the whole point, it was intentional. It captured the 'game feel'.

Overall, from episodes 1 to 16, each episode felt like watching a 45-minute movie. They spent a lot. It wasn't half-baked. They were consistent in quality every episode.

Highly recommended!

Now at episode 4 as of this comment, and this sci-fi is crazy! I love it!

It's scary. Mind-boggling. Not easily figured out. BUT, deep inside, I understand what the idea is about. On why “physics” doesn't exist.

Haha, I totally did not expect the mother to do that. She's the 2FL that was missing from the beginning. LOL.

Well, it's ironic, 1ML made his final decision to have divorce because he doesn't want a child with 1FL. But now, he's fine to be with 2FL and her kid.

Even more ironic is that, he stopped his affair with the 2FL before, and now, he's jumping into it (at least legally now). I guess it's fair, 1ML introduced his friend, 2ML, to 1FL anyway, and looks like 1FL + 2ML officially started to date.

The kid's cool too, so yeah, I want her to stay.

Episode 12 Part 2: My analysis
The real question now is, did she really sleep with him?

Remember the scene when the guy told her a story about how the “rich girl' (the 2FL)'s cousin visited him and told him they don't match? And when he's about to tell the story of the cousin's visit, they silenced the audio and changed the scene outside of the bank's door.

They intentionally do not want us to hear what it was. The next scene was the 1FL saying, “why did you tell me that?”

Something in that story gave her the idea to take control of the narrative and how to end it.

My guess is this:
* The 2FL doesn't want to break up with him, just like what she's doing with the 1ML.
* The 2FL's cousin, on his third visit, probably talked gave him an idea how to make his cousin (the 2FL) end her delusions of love.
* It was to fake sleeping with someone. Of having an affair.
* Since the 2FL is super wealthy and everything, the 2FL will be forced to leave him because it's a scandal.
* That is probably the story he told the 1FL. So, the 1FL did the same thing.

Q: Why didn't the 1FL just spread a rumour that she and the 1ML slept already?
A: It won't work. The 2FL is heads-over-heels over the 1ML. the 2FL is at that point wherein she wouldn't care if there's a scandal, she's going to have the 1ML for herself, or there's going to be world war 3.

That is the message the 2FL sent to the 1FL when she visited her, and told her she (2FL) will continue to like her (1FL). “I will not back down, eat that sister.”

Also, if she spreads that they slept already, the one who is going to take the blame is the 1ML. For her (1FL) it doesn't matter since she's practically immune to it. She was looked down upon because she didn't graduate, because she's a woman, because she's poor, because this and that. Nothing else will shake her world.

But the 1ML? It will destroy him. He doesn't have an experience in that kind of life where you're the subject of ridicule and all the nasty words said behind your back.

And, there is also the possibility that the 2FL will save the 1ML and force him to marry the 2FL. The problem, the 1ML will forever be indebted to the 2FL, and the scandal will scar him.

Much better that she takes the fall, and let the 2FL have the 1ML without any tarnish on them both, and maybe, just maybe, give them a chance of having a good life together.

So… the 1FL “sacrificed” again, and this time, she sacrificed big time. Her reputation. Her perfect, untarnished record. Her relationships. Suddenly, she's a woman who sleeps with any guy she likes.

As for her relationship with her father. I doubt she did not understand her father after their drinking session. She probably just said that because she still wants her father to pay.

That drinking session served as validation if she will go with her plans of a fake affair or not. And the key was “regret”. When her father explained his regrets, that did her. She made the decision to finish her narrative and close all possibilities of regret. End it now, the way she wants, so no one will regret anything later.

Q: But, she will regret it too, right?
A: More likely not. You see, people who finally understood what “regret” means, rarely regret anything. A person regrets something because (1) they failed to make a decision; or (2) they chose a different path even though they actually wanted the other.

People who understands what “regret” is, know how to stand on their decisions. I am one such person. I have less than 5 regrets in life. (NOTE: I'm only counting from the point I finally understood what “regret” means; I'm not talking about the years of my innocence and foolishness.) Before I make a decision, I take in all the factors and possibilities of such a decision. I also do the same for the other path I wouldn't choose. Then I make a decision and stand on it. Hence, no regrets because I made the decision on my own, 100%.

I think this is the case with the 1FL. She finally understood what "regret" is. And based on her analysis, finishing her narrative is the best way for all people involved.

She probably did not expect the 2ML to punch the other guy, though. ROFL.

BUT, you see, she definitely will not regret her decision, after seeing what the 2ML did. The 2ML finally showed his true colours, and she doesn't like it when guys think they have control over her, or owns her. (Like what happened to 1ML and 1FL in episodes 1 and 2.)

Episode 12 Part 1: Feedback
1. Taking a leave and leaving an iPod at the table with a farewell song.

Oooh, I loved that. She showed right there and then that she is taking back control of the narrative. She's going to end it the way she wants everything to end.

She knew he will listen to it, and expected him to call. Once he answered the phone and asked where she is, she just let the waves speak. I LOVE that too! She's totally in control of how things will end.

2. Beach and castle scene.

Once he arrived, she spoke in metaphors. I definitely love that. It was so perfect.

3. 1FL to 1ML: You've changed, Mr. Ha

What I said after their skating rink scene. LOL. He did change. He finally understands. He's no longer full of himself, and knows how to listen.

He understood completely, he knew she was going to leave him alone when she asked him to buy something for her. So he left his coat to her, and he ran and was eager to get back. Because, he finally understands.

But, as expected, she left. He folded his coat there and left. Not surprising at all if you understood the “took a leave and left an iPod” scene.

It was all planned. It's going to end her way.

4. 1ML still tried to change her mind by showing her the castle still is intact

Unfortunately, 1FL's decision was a done deal. She's going to end things her way.

5. The final conclusion of her narrative

She slept with the jerk.

Bravo girl. Bravo girl.
