Yes, do go to google and type 'shu sheng bar' - it is a blogger that host translations of chinese novels by other bloggers. For scarlet heart - the translation is incomplete but good to read though....there is even a comic version of it! Have gun!

Review Scarlet Heart
I love your review! I am watching the Korean version but am rewatching the Chinese one (many times) because the Chinese one is by far the better version because the relationships between Ruo Xi and the princes and even Kang Xi developed, matured and changed over the series! I still cry when I rewatch!

I think the Korean version is made to let international audiences enjoy more than Korean audiences. The main difference is that they put in a few Korean interpretations to make it feel more Korean. The Chinese one is still the BEST but you will need to know a little about how Chinese drama is made and filmed to like watching it. Knowledge of Qing dynastic struggles for the throne is essential as well. The drama is very close to the history. Other than the female lead, all characters are based on real historical figures. Also, Chinese dramas are usually based on dialogue interaction and very subtle body language - so it might be boring for you! I like the Korean version as well because it does not imitate the Chinese one but is original in its interpretation. Best acting is between Hae Soo, Lady Oh and Wang So. Give Chinese drama another try and you will see why this Scarlet Heart is a hit and Kpop made a Korean version of it! For me - the original Scarlet Heart (I am now attempting to read the actual Novel) is still the best because it has a more realistic feel to it in terms of details and movement f time. You have to appreciate it like when you learn to slowly sip and drink Chinese tea....! Cheers!

I hope I am wrong too! I really want to see the So and Soo relationship work out and Wook, Yo and Yeun Hwa punished! But from ep15, it looks like Yo and Wook are using Hae Soo as hostage to get So to kill. I watched the raw version live which is edited for Korean audience but will go home after work to watch the subbed version! Have you watched the Chinese version?

I believe that the next few episodes will follow along the lines of the Chinese drama but with a slight difference - here Wang So will be so driven by the ruthless betrayal of the 3rd and 8th prince - I mean they way Chae Ryung and Hae Soo's friendship is used to murder the crown prince &/ king - that he will ruthlessly take the crown in order to save Hae Soo. Bear with me, I am just guessing here based on the episodes so far. Wang so might have to marry Yeon Hwa and that will be the ultimate betrayal of the love and trust between him and Hae Soo. He still loves her and then the crunch time........Wang wook's revenge is to tell Wang So that Hae Soo used to love him......remember Hae Soo copying the calligraphy????? She will marry the 14th prince to leave the palace.........I feel so intensely sad and angry at Wook and 3rd prince that I have to get this off my chest! I cried buckets at this and previous episodes! So intense!

This series is so refreshing after all the other dramas that are too draggy or too melodramatic! The leads are so funny to watch! I like the female lead - she is bad ass and very strong - definitely will not be bullied! The lawyer friend and the grandfather are equally funny too! I am glad to see that it is 16 episodes as I don't see how 8 episodes will develop the plot!

I totally agree with your comments! It is one of the best melodrama I have watched so far. There over-riding theme was that life have many heartbreaking and yet many uplifting moments which are - as you said - bitter sweet. I think it is K-Melodrama with many bitter sweet touches. If fact, I think all the actors carried off their roles pretty well. All characters - including the leads are not all the time like-able and not dislike-able all the time either. To me - that is the main plus point of the drama that drew me back to wait and watch for the next episode. No one is perfect - life is not perfect and yet like any k-drama - most things are wrapped up pretty well - .....except for Ji-Tae's mother! But that in its own way - is quite real - she is one character that lived obssessively for her husband - hence she is flawed!!! All is all a great drama!!! I loved all discussions!!! On to the next one!

I like it too! The bath house scene was.....WOW!!! All the 6 packs! However, the acting - especially for all the princes and the main female lead is much more in depth in the original. I can only say that the actors in the original have more experience and it will be interesting to see how they develop as characters in the Korean remake. Right now, it feels like a gathering of Idol stars but very nice to watch. The cinematography is amazing. People fear the 4th prince in the original because he does not forget how others have treated him before he became emperor and it will be interesting to see how this drama develops his ruthlessness! As for IU, I am not so impressed for now. With the original and this remake - it is the spirit of a 25 year old entering a young girl's body (about 13 - 15 years) and I am looking forward to see how IU interprets this and develops the character.

Wow! I just out they are making the Korean version of Scarlet Heart - I was or rather just looking around You tube for a re-watch of Scarlet Heart! I don't know if they will keep close to the Chinese Dramas (I hope so!) but the trailer looks interesting - seems to play on the romance or hints at the drama combination both Scarlet Heart 1 & 2! So I am pasting the you tube link for everyone to enjoy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCNp9zqqR2c ! Can't wait till August!!!!
