Totally agree! Most republican drama fizzes off after a few episodes but this one continues to be good! The sexual - I want you - I dare not want you - tension is kept tight.....Really good!

I am actually pleasantly surprised that I like the drama with its BL overtones! For someone who has not read the raw or the translation nor have I watched the anime - this adaptation is interesting to pull me in with the 'what the hell is going on after 16 years' beginning! I thought I would not like another wuxia / xuanhuan drama after Listening Snow Tower but so far so good! Don't know the plot hence am enjoying the story!

I watched this by accident and loved it for the bitter-sweet exploration of 2nd second chance at life and at love. I know, I know there is no second chance in reality but the shortness of this drama allows all the angst to not be dragged out! At the very least, I don't have to wait for episode 30s.....for the female lead to do some 'face-slapping'! The male lead is sweet. All in all, a nice sweet drama to relax with!

Yes, it is good to be watching a drama that tries to depict reality in a dramatic way! Good acting between Jasper and Puff! Good drama - especially how people are not extremes of good and bad but shades of grey like many have spoken about!

Love, love the 1st episode! Jasper Liu and Puff Guo have good chemistry! Like everyone - I just realised I have to wait 1 WEEK for ep 2!

Although I don't think she deserves all the 'sh..t' she got from Lee Cheng Yin and Gu Jian! The only redeeming point for Gu Jian is he tried to make it up to her but too late! That is his tragedy!

I totally agree with you there. I am interested too because it is her son - the 1st emperor that become suspicious of her and it may be her existence will always remind the emperor that he will never be sure of his parentage and could not consolidate power if she still lives. She was rumoured to have relationships with Liu Bu Wei. But - my impression after 16 episodes is that the director is attempting to humanize the politics of Qin and Warring States eras! After all - it is human nature and people who change history by the decisions they make - not the politicians or the ruler who came after! Best!

I agree. I think we need to take into consideration the time and dynasty depicted in Hao Lan is very different form that of Yanxi. One is pre-Qin and almost a couple of of thousand year later, one is in the Qing dynasty which is in a sense nearer and more approachable to us. We just need to give it a chance. I loved Yanxi right from the word go - the depiction and the story line were amazing. I also like Hao Lan too - very detailed and amazing camera shot being made. We just need a bit of patience and look into the subtle characterization and story line!

Hi! I think this drama is trying to redress the sexualized image of Hao Lan. The myth of her having an affair and her wanting a big penis and all may have been cooked up by partisan politicians of that time - trying to bring down the Qin through devaluing her status. We get to see a different Hao Lan - who is gutsy despite all that she has to go through. She is after all the mother of the 1st emperor of China! I also like the depiction of Qin Wang the future father of the 1st emperor - not the weakling but the subtly but genuine scholar prince. I suppose we all like Yanxi Palace better because it is about a world within a world - the forbidden city and the lives of the women were locked in the micro world of intrigues and in-fighting all because of one man - the emperor. But then again, we see a story of woman in Yanxi who rose through the ranks to the 2nd highest position in the harem and posthumously, the empress after she died. The director is attempting to show how in Hao Lan the outside world of the Warring states and it affects the inner world of the family and palace! Just a different perspectives and a beautiful one too!

I actually like this drama out of the many Chinese melodramas I have watched. Why do I like it? The acting is very understated despite the melodrama tag. Both male leads are faulty and I like both and how the actors have portrayed them . The female lead can be stronger and not so 'goo-goo' eyes but she is good and intensely emotional at the right times. Great chemistry between all 3 leads. I feel for both male leads - they both used the female lead and yet at the same time they both love her! They both want her but are torn by family duties! Great dialogues in Mandarin! I am just lucky I understand Chinese! Sorry for the long write ! I usually do not have the patience for Chinese melodrama but this is good! I just finished episode 22. Thumbs up from me!

I absolutely love this drama and all the characters!!! I mean - look at the male leads - what eye candies and love the way Park Bo Young interacts with the leads! She is so super-cutesy with Ji Soo in a sweet innocent and very coquettish way and brash and cute no nonsense with the other!!! One has to realise he loves her while the other already loves her!!! The villians, the mother, the father and the granny are so funny!!!! Love the minor characters too - the school boys - so funny they way they worship Bo Young's character!!

I have to agree with both of your comments and discussions. Yun Zhong Ge was not good for me after Sound of the Desert because there is no chemistry between the leads and Angela's acting is no good. I always get the impression that she tries too hard and ends up just acting like Angela and not the character. I read both manga and novel and the leads' chemistry has got to be sizzling. Bai Ping Ting is smart and passionate about her love for chu Be Jie.

watched all 12 episodes raw and I am very impressed. I usually avoid Cdramas where the theme is forensic investigation but these are good - short, sharp and forensically sound. Both the male and female leads were also leads in Novoland and I really like them together here as well. Here the romance is played down so far but the working relationships are very well played out. I am glad I gave it a try and can't wait for the other episodes!!!! I enjoy murder detective stories and series and have watched all there is on British and Swedish drama series. I gave up on the American ones as they are overtly too sensational and not intelligent. I give the thumbs up for this one. Its good although the forensic practices need to be more lab correct (my scientist friends complained about the details and I have to agree!).
