How direct should he have been? He already told her loved her. He even said that he didn't think of huahua in that way. He evenkissed the FL. What did fl do in return? Slapped him, told him to date huahua, then herself got into a relationship with SML so that professor gives up on her. She didn't want to hurt her friend? What was professor to her then? Didn't she say he was the most special person for her. She was ok with hurting him and herself but not huahua. She just repeatedly kept hurting him and he still supported her despite all this. Fl doesn't even show any remorse towards him. FL was still a village girl despite having gone tgrough so many experiences and staying in the city for so long? What was the use of "sticking to his guns and pursuing her" if she is deliberately showing affection to someone else and even decides to marry him. A normal person instead of the professor wouldn't have asked her out after she broke up with SML. Even the professor's ex was a 100 times better than FL. Professor could've ended up with Wei, still that would've been more believable. Till the end FL doesn't repent even once for her mistakes. FL was just someone who would make a lot of empty promises, just to go back on her word when a new opportunity to make money(another rich guy) arrives.

There is no ML in this drama, there's the FL, SML and the supporting cast.

The FL could've just asked the professor if there is actually anything between him and huahua. Also, a little bit of trust and understanding when he literally confessed that he loves FL would've prevented a lot of misunderstandings. I would've understood her not wanting to come between two friends; but the professor was clear he was in love with fl still she pushed him towards huahua. She even dated SML with the intention that professor would back down. That wasnt naive, that was plain stupid. Also, from the time she came to the city, fl has just been leeching off of someone or the other. First it was mouse(she ended up breaking his heart because she couldn't just say no to him at first as he had helped her), next she leeched off professor, his father, then Wei, then SML (she got a taste of the rich life here and then things were just awful). All through this, she was just using the professor, if he had any form of self-respect, he would've left her to her own. Would she still have made it without him? Probably not. All tgrough the drama, many people try to take advantage of her, and she falls for it every single time. Even a naive person would be careful by the third time, but here we see the FL just trusting people blindly. How can you write a character that strives so hard to be independent and selfmade but is naive and stupid to the point of sheer dumbness; never learns from her mistakes but is smart enough to get admitted to one of the better universities while working and selling wine. I mean, what was the writer smoking? And why does the professor end up with fl. She's so flaky that a couple of days would be enough for her to leave the professor and marry someone else(going by her past relationships). It's not like he doesn't know she's emotionally dense inside. She could end up leaving him for no reason. Huahua may ask her to give up professor and she may readily agree again. Who knows?Both huahua and fl should've just ended up alone. Only people who deserved to be loved by someone were professor, the journalist and wei. Also, Wei deserved so much better than SML. The professor could've just contacted his ex, left for the US, and tried his hand at Wallstreet. There would've been plenty of options for him to fall in love over there. New country, fresh start.

Ya, going by the way drama progressed, it seems weird that the FL all of a sudden gains empathy and a brain. She just leeches off others, pretty sure professor helps her out after her company gets into trouble.

Actually this is like her 3rd drama with such a role. Most male actors avoid such scripts, now itll be even easier to spot such a script, just check if she is the FL for any drama, and avoid that script.

FL was a real turnoff despite looking somewhat beautiful.

For people who were disappointed with the original ending. I've already posted this before, just reposting it again.

Here's an alternate storyline: (continued after the Professor goes to jail, FL mother dies and the rich guy leaves her)
The professor is in jail where he is visited by his ex from the US. She helps him get realeased early from prison and he goes back with her to the US. Huahua finds out Professor left for the US, she goes and confronts FL saying its all her fault that professor was jailed and now he has left her. The two friends have a falling out. FL tries out anotger venture on her own, but without any help from others(her friends already left her), she doesnt succeed. She cries and remembers all the times the professor helped her and how she wishes she could tell him her feelings. She tries to search for his whereabouts in China but Huahua never mentions that he is in the US. FL feels dejected.
Cut to 5 years, both Huahua and FL have had no contact with the professor. He has become a successful businessman at Wallstreet. He comes back to China to attend an event in support of one of his western friends. FL is attending the event too. She is trying out another business venture. FL and professor see each other and exchange pleasantries. FL inquires if he's seeing anyone. Professor just walks away. The same evening FL is at the bar drinking and professor sees her. She tries to confess her feelings for him, he rejects her saying Businessman never invest in a commodity showing diminishing returns. He tells her she is no longer young and her beauty has now faded. He asks if it was all worth it. FL begs him to forgive her. She kisses him and they end up spending the night at a hotel room. She wakes up in the morning to find out he has left. She sees a letter from him telling her that he has moved on and she should too. Huahua is getting married. She still thinks about professor. A day before her wedding, FL tells her that professor is back in China and if she wants him, this whould be her chance. Huahua leaves to the address to meet professor, only to find out FL lied to her. She is not able to make it to her wedding and loses her mind. Cut to the FL. She is all alone, her father asks her to return home. She tries out one final business venture. She finds a backer but turns out he just wants to sleep with her. She finally realizes that she is all alone and thinks about the early days with professor and her friends. She daydreams that she and the professor got together and got married(the scenes from the first episode).

No, there's no jail scene. I watched it on fastforward though skipping a few scenes, but no jail cell or orange clothes in any frame

Like for half a day, he doesn't answer anyone's calls and no one knows where he is. He is actually fixing her mistake at that time and not avoiding her

I watched it in Chinese, it was hard to understand. Knowing how stupid the FL is, she probably made a mistake while selling something and the professor goes and fixes it for her behind her back. As for why he doesn't answer her call, does it really matter in this storyline😅

The FL was a sadist. She also felt like an unintentional gold digger and at times like a town s/#t.

Just because you put a cherry on top of shit doesn't make it a cake. FL doesn't have any redemption. The drama treats FL as though she is some kind of gift from the gods, when in reality she has a heart of dung. This drama continues the tradition of the villains(FL and SML) going scotfree (without any punishment) even after screwing up people's lives. After going through all the emotional bullshit that the FL throws at the professor till ep 38-40, suddenly she can love him now. Like we are supposed to just forget the torture she put him through. For someone who is shown as being the smartypants of the group, the professor sure acts dumb. Same goes for Wei, miss, you are supposed to be composed and mature, why settle for SML. The spiderman kiss at the end just confirms that the FL has made a monkey out of the professor.(i.e she thinks he's a joke). The last two episodes the professor and FL try to act all lovey-dovey but it is just laughable by this point and feels a bit off to watch. I mean, what's the use of having such a good actor playing the ML if you're just going to handicap him. The writer of this drama is either a sadist, or was probably left at the altar or caught her boyfriend/husband cheating; and then wrote this storyline to take revenge. This was adapted from a book, but I doubt they followed the book's story. Did the writer ask out the actor playing the ML, and tgen got mad because he refused her. So many questions.

The journalist ends up with his intern. Wei ends up settling for SML. Wanted a happy ending for the professor, sadly he ends up with the FL. Huahua ends up alone and being a bitch.

He goes missing i.e he doesnt reply to any of their phone calls so they dont know where he is. He doesn't go to jail as far as i can tell. I skipped over some parts as they were boring

I keep referring to ML as professor, because he doesnt get as much screentime and prominence as the ML should get.

Someone really sweet and understanding, who actually cares for professor. Professor falls in love hook line and sinker, and tge FL tries to chase after him but its too late.
